I was a bit dissapointed by this movie. It felt too emotional for a movie about spess.
I was a bit dissapointed by this movie. It felt too emotional for a movie about spess.
But it wasn't, it was primarily about a father leaving his children for saving the humanity and the entire conflict was just that.
But what was with the whole "love is the only thing that transcends time and space" thing, and then [sp]literally having it do that.[/sp] It didnt seem to fit with the rest of the movie.
also planets near a black hole 2/10 - 'its ok'
Just saw it, absolutely blown away by it and would recommend it at the drop of a hat. From my limited knowledge of physics and relativity, they definitely hit the nail on the head ([sp]Great motivator for the movie considering how Coop is having this emotional crisis while he sees his kids grow up, move on, spite him, love him, etc all while he was just on the planet for an hour/two. Time literally became a resource for him...[/sp]).
I felt it was a bit hokey with the [sp]apollo landing was a hoax, along with a few other things[/sp] but I feel that Nolan was shooting for an attempted [sp]not necessarily subtle, message about how the general population has lost interest in space exploration[/sp].
Hans and the audio guys really brought it together, especially with some of the silent scenes. The visuals were outstanding ([sp]Especially when they're floating by Saturn, all I thought was the Pale Blue Dot[/sp]).
I also loved the concept of them [sp]turning time into a higher physical dimension, helped me understand tesseracts/hypercubes more. And 'plucking' the strings of gravity like that on the watch was really novel[/sp]
My one big complaint is that [sp]there are just alot of scenes that jump quite a bit[/sp].
I feel this film is a nice complement to 2001:ASO, [sp]2001 dealt with the origins of man especially with how the monolith shaped the course of history/where-we-came-from, where as Interstellar dealt
with more of where-we-are-going[/sp]. Both pair rather nicely and it really seems to be almost the 2001 of our generation.
Final point: 9/10, would recommend for many, but you have to show your part to want to try to understand some of it. There are some flaws, but alot of the flaws are minor in the grand scheme.
Thanks for reading.
i thought it was 10/10

It is possible for planets to be near and orbit a black hole.

No frakkin' way
Going to see this tomorrow, pretty hype, the amount of will it takes to not click these spoiler tags, uughughghgh
Another thing I didn't like about it was there was nowhere near as much space porn as I was hoping there would be. I wanted Space Engine: The Movie.

[sp]I don't know man, the stellar matter spinning furiously around a black hole with some insane gravitational lensing. That alone sated my space porn needs.[/sp]

It was beautiful yeah but the shots were so short and sparse. I wanted gratuitousness.
I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I still had a little hope that "Evey Reborn" would be in the movie, cus that song fit the trailer so amazingly well.
Man it was good, felt really rushed though, I wish it was a mini series
Man it was good, felt really rushed though, I wish it was a mini series
I wish it were at least an hour longer.
I wish it were at least an hour longer.
At least this, yeah. The planet exploration part was way too short compared to earth (opening) and the [sp]time travel[/sp] sequence

More like 6/10
Maybe it's just the hype and having the bar set by gravity really high.

It was honestly unique and I've never seen the concept before and it definitely intrigued me. The dialogue was good overall imo but it was spotty in a few places. I did feel like they could've done a better job keeping up with the time pacing because its like from one scene/line to another they could immediately skip 12 minutes, or hours, or years. All the science stuff was interesting but it felt a little jargonic to me at times, and like they just had to keep making shit up, but since its a sci-fi movie I tried to just go with it. The movie did get a little confusing to me near the end with all the solve gravity stuff. I actually did like the black hole shit, but I didn't care for how [sp]He just magically appears from the singularity to the orbit around Saturn and was minutes within dying but was picked up. He should've died inside the black hole imo. If you're going to say "oh he had to go back since he promised", well he already did, through the black hole and talking to Murphy with the clock[/sp]. The visuals were very good, and lets not even get started on how fucking incredible the score throughout the movie were.
Overall I give it an 8/10

[sp]The planets they visited in the movie were also very interesting. I still remember me whispering "holy shit" when they were on the ocean planet and we see this miles-high tidal wave coming towards that literally knocks a few clouds on its way[/sp]
I just saw the movie and... I'm disappointed. After The Dark Knight Rises I was a bit on the lookout to not expect anything brilliant, simply have an open mind.
Entire Movie Spoilers
[sp]I really wish they went for Hathaway saving humanity on the last planet. Fuck the "ghost" element and the whole end sequence. It would be much darker that way but I prefer a new start than space magic. Seriously, everything up to the point was great, although I think they slightly overdid the crying and philosophy bits. I decided not write up my ideas how to remove all the "sci-fi" stuff but wish Nolan went different route to end it.
I really loved the robots though, I have to wonder why they didn't send just them.[/sp]
I absolutely loved it. Probably more than Inception actually.

[sp]Dr.Mann explained why they didn't. I think had something to do with survival instinct or something.[/sp]
[sp] why did all of the autonomous farm equipment drive to Cooper's house? [/sp]
I loved it. I was more edge of my seat saying holy shit than any movie before it. Must see

I was remember coming out of Inception with a more positive opinion than this.

because of the gravity shift fucking with the compasses cmon step it up
I really liked this movie also, it's probably tied with Memento as my favourite Christopher Nolan flick.
[sp]I was kind of surprised to see Matt Damon in here as Mann, I never seen him on any of the promotional material or posters, he just popped in.[/sp]

but gravity doesn't affect magnetic fields
but gravity doesn't affect magnetic fields
Maybe since the house was built on a magnetite source (as he mentioned), the [sp]anomaly around Murph's bookshelf[/sp] was fucking with magentic fields as well?
Maybe since the house was built on a magnetite source (as he mentioned), the [sp]anomaly around Murph's bookshelf[/sp] was fucking with magentic fields as well?
It wasn't built on a magnetite source, he said that if the house was over one the harvesters would've malfunctioned the first time he started them. I can only assume the gravitational anomalies are messing with the systems just as they did when Coop did his test flight.
And the soundtrack. Zimmer did this, too, right? He really sounds like he run out of ideas. I especially hate how after Gravity a lot of trailers and this movie's soundtrack have that huge buildup only to go completely silent. YOU ARE TOO OBVIOUS!
soundtrack was great

It's pretty nice music, although it pretty much just went on for far too long.
Also: [sp]Dude wakes up after 124 years and doesn't even ask about his son?[/sp]
I liked the bit where it was loud.
