[sp]So since time dilation means that time slows down the closer you get to a gravity well like a black hole, does that mean you could use one to put yourself in suspended animation of a sort?[/sp]
I was reading the discussion about Interstellar on IMDB and a bunch of people are calling for a 2001 remake to fit the "modern audience". Hm...

When I watched I sure got some 2001 vibes from it. But to call it a remake would be a stretch.
But sure feels like Nolan was inspired by it.

No I mean they started talking about 2001 and how it was really boring and how it should be remade for the current audience.

Oh whoops, totally misread that.
Never would I ever want a 2001 remake though, it's totally fine as it is.
The soundtrack in the movie was awesome, i i think i enjoyed all the songs. One of them reminded me of this, the part at 2.47:

Well that's just too bad for them, this should never ever happen.
They should however make 2061 and 3001

I really wish someone would make Rendevouz With Rama. Last I heard Morgan Freeman was still talking about getting a good script. Has been like 10 years now.
The last few minutes in Interstellar really made me think of Rama and how damn cool it'd be if done well.
I wasn't that impressed to be honest, I felt like it tried to explain too much stuff when it was obvious already and it could have been like an hour shorter without any loss of quality
The only thing I really disliked about the movie was the fact I thought we'd see a lot more of the planets and such. Even then it's not that big a gripe for me because at least the plot gave a reason for it.
I just realised some more foreshadowing a week after seeing the movie
[sp]When Donald makes Cooper go to the parent-teacher conference Donald says "Ms. Hanley is cute. You know, everyone needs to do their part in increasing the global population :^)" and then Cooper repopulates a planet with Brand[/sp]

When did that happen? The latter part?
just came back from this movie. I didn't see it in IMAX but I saw it in LOOK Theater's Evolution venue which has a giant curved screen hooked up to DOLBY ATMOS. It was an amazing experience, and was practically an IMAX experience with the added luxury of reclining chairs.
First let me point out that the soundtrack was just as intense as you can get. Hans Zimmer is a genius. [sp]The soundtrack especially during the docking scene was intense as fuck[/sp]

I'm still trying to soak it all in,I don't even know where to begin. It just blows my mind how brilliant this movie is. For those who haven't seen it yet, just go in with an open mind and understand that it is in fact Sci-Fi
[sp]Did anyone find the ending could be viewed as sad? Cooper leaves in order to find Brand, because Murphy explained she might be in a hibernation pod. However, the scene with Brand clearly shows that she is on that planet, and they have already began to colonize. This implies that Brand isn't going to hibernate and thus live out her life. So by the time Cooper finishing his meeting with his now elderly daughter, Brand would have long passed, and Cooper arrives to a planet already colonized by humans. It's a bit of a trip to think about, but anyone have any thoughts/theories on this?[/sp]
[sp]She's pretty much aged the same as Cooper since she was also under the effect of the black hole if I understand it correctly.[/sp]

I think at such moment we have to give in to some film magic. [sp] I'm pretty sure Cooper was under the influence of the black hole for a longer period than Brand, since he after all was going to enter it. Realistically the immense gravity is going to slow down time awfully much, millions of years could have passed. But then after he finishes his business in the hole, he gets sent back in time and to the "normal" frame of reference, which should leave Brand and everything else intact... I'm not even sure. [/sp]

Somewhat
Hey that's awesome! I was never sure [sp]how time passed on the other planets. I thought two of them were under really heavy gravitational influence. Though their trip to Mann caused a bunch of years to pass. Glad to hear that it was the black hole that caused the 68 year jump. It sounds most reasonable too.[/sp]
aren't those graphical interpretations of movies meant to simplify stuff? lmao

Glad to see I was 90% correct about the timeline after coming out of the theater. The last thing I forgot was [sp]Edmund's planet was outside of any significant time dilation, thus during the time Brand/TARS/Cooper were in the accretion disk must've accelerated the 68 years and thus by the end of the movie Cooper & Brand are the same age in the same time reference.[/sp]
The only I need explaining is [sp]why did Cooper teleport just outside Cooper Station when he completed what he needed to do in the tesseract? I guess considering "they" gained control of the 5th dimension, it was pretty easy to master teleportation too.[/sp]

He wasn't [sp]teleported. He was sent out into the Solar System through the wormhole. It just so happened that the ship carrying humanity to the new worlds were on the way to the wormhole right then and there.[/sp]
Okay so when they [sp] go to the first planet, the water one, they knew that time dilation would occur, and every hour would be about 7 years on the outside, so how did they not realize that the original explorer's signals could only have come from like an hour or two of data before they arrived? [/sp]

What i got from that was that [sp]they didn't even consider that, so when they realized it, it increased the shock factor 10-fold.[/sp]
Just got back. The close up view of Saturn gave me a raging space boner.
I feel like TARS was my favorite character, which is kinda odd.
The ending, even though it was supposed to be happy, was depressing as hell to me. It brought me close to tears. Not as bad as Toy Story 3, though.
In the end, it felt very reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Also, I felt "Man(n), he looks kinda like Matt Damon!" and it's not until I see other talking about it and I go look at the IMDB page to see it really WAS Matt Damon. And his character was a fucking pussy.

Brain fart.
[sp]One thing that bugged me, Cooper shouldn't have fallen into the Black Hole, or even detached at all. If they were using the Ranger as the last boost, losing mass wouldn't have changed a thing, and when he detached he shouldn't have been pulled into the black hole.[/sp]

[sp]Didn't they say the data "echo'ed" due to the dilation, and that's why they thought the explorer had been sending a thumbs up signal for several years.[/sp]
Deluxe version of soundtrack released and THAT track is not there sadly.
