Official press release for the start of production was finally announced:
Paramount Pictures, a division of Viacom, Inc., and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that principal photography on “INTERSTELLAR” is officially underway in Alberta, Canada. The film will be released in IMAX® and 35mm theaters on November 7, 2014. Paramount Pictures will distribute domestically, Warner Bros. Pictures internationally.
Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), the production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
“INTERSTELLAR” features a prestigious cast that includes Matthew McConaughey (“Magic Mike,” “Mud”), Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway (“Les Miserables,” “The Dark Knight Rises”), Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “The Tree of Life”), Bill Irwin (“Rachel Getting Married,” TV’s “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) Academy Award® nominee John Lithgow (“Terms of Endearment,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) Academy Award® nominee Casey Affleck (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Gone Baby Gone”), David Gyasi (“Cloud Atlas”), Wes Bentley (“The Hunger Games”), Mackenzie Foy (“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Parts 1 and 2”) Timothée Chalamet (TV’s “Homeland”), Topher Grace (“Spider-Man 3”), David Oyelowo (“Jack Reacher,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), Academy Award® winner Ellen Burstyn (“The Last Picture Show,” “The Exorcist”), and Academy Award® winner Michael Caine (“The Cider House Rules,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy).
The film is being produced by Academy Award® nominee Emma Thomas (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy) and Lynda Obst (“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “The Siege”). Renowned theoretical physicist Kip Thorne is consulting on the film as well as serving as executive producer, along with Jake Myers (“Jack Reacher,” “RED,” “RED 2”) and Jordan Goldberg (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy).
The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “The Fighter”), Academy Award®-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“The Dark Knight” Trilogy), Academy Award®-nominated costume designer Mary Zophres (“Gangster Squad,” “True Grit”) Academy Award®-nominated editor Lee Smith (“The Dark Knight” Trilogy,” “Elysium,”), Academy Award®-winning composer Hans Zimmer (“The Lion King,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy), and Academy Award®-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Franklin (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight” Trilogy).
Let the hype begin.
yay
Here's some interesting news: http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Legendary-Pictures-Trades-Batman-Superman-Piece-Christopher-Nolan-Interstellar-39002.html
Legendary Pictures has forfeited it's stake in batman vs superman in exchange for 25% financing on Interstellar, a film that's already got both paramount and warner brothers studios financing it (which was already odd enough of a combination). Nolan films sure do attract a lot of attention from the major studios. He's literally never gonna have trouble financing his films.
Jeez what's this thing's budget?
Jeez what's this thing's budget?
One million dollars!

Lots of set photos starting to come in today. One guy has an album up here showing off the various equipment they're using, Nolan wandering about, and distant shots of Matthew: http://imgur.com/a/krMHm
And here's closer shot of Matthew on set someone else took:

And here's a shot of idk something happening that some random twitter guy photographed:

At first I thought it was Jim Cavieziel.
Although it was pretty much confirmed, I'm glad that this movie will be shot in IMAX.
Lithgow was on set as well during the shoot

and here's a video someone took of the set while they were filming a random scene:

Not really anything major but idk its neat to see the whole crew in action.
Well it is more "behind the scenes" stuff than we'll get officially on home media
Because Nolan
Woah shit I love Kip Thorne I am definitely going to see this

I hope this movie gives me a scientific accuracy erection
Holy fuck. Guess who just joined the cast.
[sp]Matt Fucking Damon.[/sp] I guess it will probably be just a cameo, but still.
New set photos, and what seems to be more detailed and more spoilerish plot description.
[sp]Set in the future, the movie details the toll climate change has taken on agriculture, with corn the last crop to be cultivated. The scientists embark on a journey through a worm hole into other dimensions in search of somewhere other crops can be grown.[/sp]
I'm not sure if I like this, but it will be interesting to see something like that done by Nolan.
Hanz Zimmer talked a bit about the music in an interview earlier:
At the back of my mind constantly I’m inventing stuff for Interstellar. Weirdly I’m a bit ahead on that one. Circumstances beyond my control, I wrote [Nolan] a main theme in January while he was writing… There’s a tune, there’s a theme there. We had this sort of conversation about—you know nine years we spent in our Batman world. The textures, the music, and the sounds, and the thing we sort of created has sort of seeped into other people’s movies a bit, so it’s time to reinvent. The endless string of sonatas need to go by the wayside, the big drums are probably in the bin. So right now it’s sort of the time where I’m pondering what else we can do. Chris feels the same challenge, ‘Let’s do something new. We have something to say.’ He really has got something to say, there’s a solid backbone to this thing and it’s an important story, and we want to tell it in a way that nobody else has ever done. And the same goes for the music, of course.
fucking hans zimmer yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss
this might just be the best movie ever
Interesting; so the movie is about [sp]travelling to alternate realities in search of somewhere to grow more crops[/sp], if the plot description is accurate. An interesting application of interdimensional travel, though I hope it means we see some cool alternate realities.
Being reported now that a teaser trailer should be attached to the new Hobbit movie this December:
http://www.nolanfans.com/2013/11/03/first-trailer-for-interstellar-to-debut-with-the-hobbit-the-desolation-of-smaug/#more-10164
For those interested, keep an eye on this site in the days leading up to the release of the Hobbit:
http://www.albertafilmratings.ca/recentclasstrailers.aspx
If there really is a new trailer coming, it'll show up listed on there 3-10 days before it's released (it'll be released online at anytime from the Wednesday before the hobbit releases up to the Monday after it's opening weekend). Don't expect much with this teaser. Inception only showed off like 2 scenes, and was mostly just title credits, when it released its first trailer.
this sounds amazing, except i'm worried they've just taken every sci-fi theme and thrown it in for good measure, but i'd love a movie set about a deep space interstelar voyage thats scientifically accurate. i wonder what the ship will look like and i wonder if they'll get in a fight with james cameron over who's ship is more accurate (his isn't in my opinion)
I now have hope for Matthew McConaughey after seeing his performance in MUD.
Nolan's using an imax camera mounted to the nose of a fucking plane for some scenes in interstellar:

that's so awesome
i spy with my little eye something 1 minute 43 seconds long
aw yeah it's coming, and must be in front of the hobbit given how soon the trailer has been rated. That's a really good length too for just a teaser trailer. The inception teaser was just 1:03 and the dark knight rises teaser was 1:36 so this should be interesting to see.
Also just fyi inception and dark knight rises both debuted a poster 10 days before the release of their teaser trailers, so hopefully we'll see one for this around next tuesday
Saturday Dec 14th, 9 am PST the trailer goes live online
all theaters that are converted to digital have a locked trailer reel, and won't receive the key until midnight on wednesday. Film theaters however don't have the reel locked, so shaky cam leaks ahead of time are totally possible. And there's several totally different different trailer descriptions floating around right now lol who are these people that waste their time typing these fake things up.
[editline]10th December 2013[/editline]
where the fuck is the poster and websites, jeez
I really hope it's going to be as vague as possible. I remember going into Inception only after watching second trailer and still knowing absolutely nothing about it.
Yeah I find going into Nolan films blind is the best possible way to do it. I didn't know anything about TDK or Inception when I saw them but I followed TDKR through production so I kinda guessed a lot of it...
Yeah all I'll be watching is this teaser trailer. That's all I did for dark knight rises and inception and it was definitely a good call.
it has begun:

The trailer reels are starting to get unlocked now. Trailer could leak any minute, for those that really want to see a shaky cam version rather than waiting until saturday.
The more I look on this poster the more I love it. It's simple, but keeps you thinking, exactly what the teaser should do.
