Arguably the best 3d Fallout in terms of story and worldbuilding. I could go on and on about it but it's best to experience it for yourself.
i dare say it beats the original fallouts
they actually report significant progress on a regular basis over at their discord. so far this is on a steady track to actually getting finished and using the parts of FO4 that proved to be cool, like weapon modding
*sigh* Same issue the art direction had in new vegas. Far too bulky for no reason. The gun would weigh 20 lbs at least. There is literally an entire world of guns to look at for reference. The popular ones sporting excellent examples of what weapon modding actually looks like. They even often have pros and cons that translate well into video games and could make for some neat game mechanics rather than a linear improvement path. This isn't to say I don't look forward to the mod though. Just that Fallout 4 had some of the worst art direction of the series, especially when compared to NV. EDIT: I'm dumb, ignore this.
they're remaking new vegas, not completely revamping the artstyle and weapon design choices also it's the bozar, the other guns that are actually based on real things won't be as heavy looking
Wasn't Bozar based on (or rather made from) some lmg? If yes, then the bulkiness makes much more sense.
Wasn't Bozar based on (or rather made from) some lmg? If yes, then the bulkiness makes much more sense.
It's basically an LMG sniper.
*sigh* Same issue the art direction had in new vegas. Far too bulky for no reason. The gun would weigh 20 lbs at least.
It does actually weigh 20 lbs in Fallout 2.

Plus threw in a chunk of the W2000 for good measure when it comes to mods. You want to complain about a gun, I think the 12.7mm smg is one of the worst offenders.
since this is practically the F4NV thread now [thumb]https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/340234226572066816/387290109055205376/gssourcelarge.png[/thumb]
Just that Fallout 4 had some of the worst art direction of the series.
FO4 has the most consistent and easy to understand art design. Everything makes sense within the world. They took 50's product design and applied it to everything and it looked great. All the world object and buildings fit, the art style is consistent and fits the tone and setting of the game. FO4's art direction is what drew me in, I love 1950's consumer product design and artwork. Fallout exists in an America stuck in an era that's gone too far and while I condemn bethesda's abhorrent writing, their art direction makes this narrative point clear and easy to understand. I love 90's fallout with all my heart but FO4's world makes sense and the art that went into building it accomplishes the goal of bringing the player into it quickly. The intro is boring but it is consistent, easy to understand, has a specific style, and dishes out info to the player in a timely manner. If anything postive can be said of Fallout 4, it's that the art direction and style was beautifully thought out and well executed.

I've never played New Vegas before, but I own it on Steam (Awful I know, I'm just really busy these days). If I were to play it, what mods would you guys recommend I install to make the playthrough better (Bug fixing mods, UI etc)?
I really recommend no mods other than unofficial patches if it's your first time going deep into a Fallout game, besides, New Vegas is chock full of content already!
Wasn't Bozar based on (or rather made from) some lmg? If yes, then the bulkiness makes much more sense.
Not really. The barrel diameter and brake are built like an anti material rifle. The bulk is totally needless, as is the brake, given that .223 is already a pretty light round. This is what a .223 LMG feeding from a small magazine looks like: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M27_Infantry_Automatic_Rifle And it already makes pretty much zero sense without adding weight or brakes and shit. Meanwhile the bozar looks like a close relative of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_XM500 Which is an actual anti material rifle.

Salem is just a cluster of simple wooden houses. Boston is a bigger city than Vegas.

One of the reasons I'm really excited for Fo4: NV is that I really think the ruined retro-future aesthetic would benefit from the climate of the Mojave. With all the 50s style and futuristic chrome, you could get some really neat Roswell vibes going.
So many memories. I'm going to reinstall New Vegas. Easily my favorite game of all time.
Here is what I would recommend.
I'm late to the party, but I'd go a little bit farther. For a base vanilla + fixes installation, I use this guide: http://wiki.step-project.com/User:EssArrBee/FalloutNewVegas Get LOOT and Mod Organizer from "Utilities". Apply the tweaks from "INI Tweaks" for things like no mouse acceleration, better distance fade on certain settings, and mandatory tweaks for messing with mods if you want to later. Get NVSE, optionally the plugin (for mods that you might want to install later), and the 4GB Patcher from "Extenders". Optionally get ENBoost from the "ENB Series" which doesn't touch graphics but improves performance. Get New Vegas Anti-Crash, New Vegas Stutter Remover, optionally Armor Replacer Child NPC Fix (again, if you're gonna be installing mods later), optionally Game Tweaks (A little mod created by the author of the compilation which adjust the moon size to be "realistic" and the kill cams to be less annoying), YUP, and YUP+ You can stop there, but I also recommend these for first-time players: The Mod Configuration Menu for mods that might need it later. Vanilla UI Plus which just makes the Vanilla UI much better. And CASM, a nifty save manager which makes random crashes that might still happen less annoying because it's always saving for you. This might all be too much for someone that just wants to play, though, so if you were to only pick 4 I'd probably pick the 4 you suggested.
I loved fallout 4's artstyle, but was never a fan of how foggy, washed out, and pastel coloured everything ended up looking in game.
This I agree with completely, FO4 needed bolder color correction. I got a mod that makes the blues and reds deeper and gets rid of the washed out look and makes things look more colorful, it makes such a big difference.

Sorting load orders by hand is the only way to go on account of how often LOOT fucks it up because it either A: Doesn't recognize the plugin, B: The plugin isn't in its database in the first place, or C: Puts a plugin in what it thinks is the right spot but isn't because of a plugin it can't recognize that modifies the plugin it does. Every single time I've tried LOOT it's fucked my game worse than doing nothing at all did. And I'm going to go out on a limb and say 'Don't waste time modifying the kill cams, just turn them off entirely'. CASM is bae, though. <3 NVAC? YMMV, NVSR And 4gb fixer is god tier. MCM is a must-have, and you forgot a couple others that I can't live without in my own game and feel everyone should have. Project Nevada Jetpack
New Vegas is amazing, I'm so mad Obsidian got shafted on development time.

Project Nevada Jetpack
We're talking about "Vanilla+" New Vegas, that is New Vegas with fixes. Project Nevada and Jetpack are right out for a first playthrough. (I also am personally not a fan of Project Nevada. It does too much for my tastes.) I'm a big fan of Jsawyer Ultimate, which is a retooling of the original mod that the director made (polished to be more compatible and configurable and is what I consider to be New Vegas: Director's Cut), but I wouldn't suggest it for a first run. Also, only issues I've had with LOOT are specific instructions left by mods (make sure this is before this, etc.) which happened with BOSS anyway, and can be programmed in or manually altered after the fact. LOOT is still excellent for getting the rest of the stuff functioning properly, in a correct order. Otherwise, my ~70 mod large install worked fine. And for the purposes of "beginner's New Vegas modlist," it's more than adequate. If a beginner wants to get serious later, they'll figure it out. Also I enjoy the kill cams, but not all the time. That's the beauty of modding, though.
