just because they're shit doesn't mean you can't enjoy them
I wouldn't really call the movies shit, they are just a different kind of movie. Sometimes I want emotional storytelling and drama in a movie but some other times I just want mindless violence and this is what the Expendables movies are best for: Mindless violence.
A film where the idea is mindless violence can still be absolutely terrible, like the The Expendables especially so. [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] Want a good action film? Try The Raid Redemption.
just because they're shit doesn't mean you can't enjoy them
But that's the thing, they're kinda shitty and not every enjoyable. Or at least that was the case with the first one.
I really wish these movies used '80s fake blood and flesh effects instead of that CG stuff.
I feel sad when it comes to these movies. They have these legends in them but I'm getting bored watching them. I think they would benefit from a different director.
I wonder why the series isn't handed to a person like John Woo, he's an influential director of the action genre. I finished the second one this morning and I seriously don't see the appeal. Stallone growls and grumbles to narrate what is happening and why it's happening. Jason Statham plays as Jason Statham which actually works pretty well. Everyone else is just a cameo though. They exist to say a few lines so that later people can pick their favorite and go "Remember that scene where my character says X that was so great". But no one is watching these movies for the acting, they watch it for the action. But even the action isn't that great. The special affects are, for the most part, gaudy CGI that pulls me out of what could be a visceral gunfight and makes me feel like I'm watching a video game cutscene. They feel nothing like the grittiness of the movies they are trying to pay homage to. I'm not expecting Terminator 2 quality but it feels like they aren't even trying.
I really wish these movies used '80s fake blood and flesh effects instead of that CG stuff.
the CG blood (and the obviously CG helicopter in 2 my god the rendering is just BAD) is something i just really hate in these. it always looks so off
What's up with those CG skulls, the shading makes them look like a prerendered cutscene from a late 90s/early 2000s game
throwback to when these actors were just about on their way out
I fucking love these movies. Every second.
I fucking love these movies. Every second.
Terry's AA-12 in 1 and all the Arnold stuff in 2 are my favorite things also Van Damme
the CG blood (and the obviously CG helicopter in 2 my god the rendering is just BAD) is something i just really hate in these. it always looks so off
The CG in these movies really suck. At least the blood got slightly better in #2. I think these movies would be better if they cut the hero cast in half and made that half of them villains. Also the fight between Van Damme and Stallone should have been 1 minute longer and should have been between Jet Li and Jackie Chan [editline]21st December 2013[/editline] the fights should have all been like this
The best parts for me where: Terry Crews' AA-12 montage of him going "AAAAAAAAAA" while the gun goes "DOOF DOOF DOOF" Claude Van Damme doing the kick with the knife Chuck Norris' showing up Lundgren showing his smarts Sylvester Stallone vs. Claude in a one-on-one fight And any moment where they break the 4th wall. These movie are not meant to make sense, but just to have all these nostalgic action-heroes in one spot going all out. I love these movies, the writing may be shit, but they are still awesome.
Terry Crews' AA-12 montage of him going "AAAAAAAAAA" while the gun goes "DOOF DOOF DOOF" Claude Van Damme doing the kick with the knife
wasn't the AA12 part more like BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMBLAM REMEMBER THIS SHIT AT CHRISTMAS but yeah that kick was one of the most badass stabbing moves i've seen on the big screen and Arnold's "AHM BACH" with a mouthful of fat cigar and the Terminator beat in the background
The CG in these movies really suck.
remember the collapsing manor in Exp1? that was just embarrassing
Still waiting for this series to get Jackie Chan and Chow Yun-Fat. If I got to see Chow Yun-Fat and Jean-Claude Van Damme fight I could die happy.
I feel sad when it comes to these movies. They have these legends in them but I'm getting bored watching them. I think they would benefit from a different director.
I remember listening to an interview around the time that the first film was about to release that they had done a few alternate takes on some scenes based on ad-libbed dialogue and some ideas taken from out-takes that would have made the film more tongue-in-cheek than the slightly dry film we got instead. Of course I'm not saying I'd want to hear them making more 'old' jokes but I'd like to see a little more charm and pizazz like in the movies we remember them so fondly being in. A little more like this I suppose:
Terry's AA-12 in 1 and all the Arnold stuff in 2 are my favorite things also Van Damme
Eric Roberts as a villain was okay but hearing that Van Damme was going to be the villain in 2 made me smile like a kid in a candy store.
I fucking love these movies. Every second.
<incomprehensible ranting about your wrongful opinion> !!!
the thing about these films is that they spend so much money trying to look amazing with all these otherwise great actors that they ironically turn out shit because they have to cut down on everything else remember, when you overspecialize, you fuck yourself over.
I will never recover from the disappointment after learning that imdb lied to me when it put Nic Cage as an actor in this then removed him a week later.
Are they really whistling "Hitler Has Only Got One Ball" in the trailer? Unless there really is a song that goes with that tune.
I still don't understand what Kelsey Grammer is doing in this lol
Hey, they can always use a wise-cracking psychiatrist, right?
Awesome movie and the next movie Fifty Shades Of Grey with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan (User was permabanned for this post ("spambot what" - postal))
