Blaming the consumer and expecting the consumer to regulate their own economics in society is as stupid as expecting a dog to not eat meat placed in front of it.
Someone will always want more and others cant just sit back and let that one guy take advantage of society while the rest just regulate their purchases and earnings.
Honestly, OP's view that everything is the consumers fault is astronomically stupid, and the anti-capitalism/"consumerism" bandwagon isn't new in the world of teen computer nerds who would like nothing more than to be able to play video games and post on forums whenever they want without having to worry about the real world where wealth is earned rather than evenly distributed.
Exactly, thanks for saving me a lot of work.

By the way, Op, why is your avatar Tojo?
OP's tl:dr would be = "I'm a cynical 13 year old who thinks people doing what they want with their own money is wrong because of no real reason whatsoever"
OP's tl:dr would be = "I'm a cynical 13 year old who thinks people doing what they want with their own money is wrong because of no real reason whatsoever"
No, what the OP is saying is that in this society, people spend their lives buying unfulfilled objects and trying to make as much money as they can before they die. It's a well-publicized concept.
Says the guy who pays for an internet connection and a computer.
I'm willing to bet that his parents pay for that. Society forces you into this situation because it's what's considered "normal."

That's because it does :downs:
Consumerism is an evil not only to the worker but to the consumer. By buying into this shit you willingly become the slave of the producer. cigarettes and alcohol are a good example.

I fail to see your point. No matter what there will always be a producer, and there will always be advertisement. Your little consumerism ideal here is impractical to even conceive a solution to, let alone classifying as a major problem.
Capitalism is the perfect system as long as that gov'ment follows an Austrian economic doctrine. The laws of supply and demand and competition keep it running itself.

We are not capitalist, we are consumerist. CHINA is capitalist. The two coexist to keep eachother alive. The people of the United States need to wake up and realize that their undying thirst for empty trinkets and extra homes isn't going to give their lives any more meaning, and that it's also hurting everyone else.
Can't wait to go out and buy 12 McMansions tomorrow and burn them in front of poor people.
By buying into this shit you willingly become the slave of the producer.
And where do you get money for buying stuff, Einstein?
Exactly, working for a producer, who pays you a salary thanks to people who buy his products, with money earned by working for someone else, and so on.
If people don't spend, then companies don't sell, firing workers and lowering wages to cut on cost, further increasing the problem since people have less money to spend after being fired or seeing his wages lowered.
This is called the "Paradox of Thrift", and though it's heavily criticized by non-Keynesian economists (such as myself) it's a decent approach to reality never the less.

What if I like getting trashed every so often? Is it wrong? Am I unfulfilled? NO, IF I ENJOY IT THEN I SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO SO...
And before you say that the way I've been brought up, then yes I was brought up to like buying random stuff. At least I was also brought up to work for my things. If a person just earned a massive paycheck, who are you to stop them from going out and spending it?
ever heard of retail therapy? that shit works

OP why are you spending time using your parents internet connection to rant about how people want to consume stuff?
Shouldn't you be out fighting THE MAN

China is authritarian capitalist and I'm saying don't buy useless shit. It won't make you happy.
I'm saying don't buy useless shit. It won't make you happy.
Who is to decide what will make an individual happy other than that individual?
How can you make that decision for them?
There are many people who throw their money away on "useless shit" and it's true it never brings them happiness. But there are other people who do spend their money wisely on things that they like and enjoy and it does bring them degrees of happiness.
You see that's the problem with you communists, you tend to lump everybody together and assume that we are all mindless drones with nothing more than a hivemind, and forget that each and every individual has different wants and needs, and values different things and independently chooses the way in which they satisfy them.
Anarchy.
For me its that we are constantly bombarded by adverts that buying things will make our lives better, sure it may provide a few months novelty. But in the long term we gain nothing.
I'm saying don't buy useless shit. It won't make you happy.
Pretty much everything that isn't food, water or studying material is useless shit, and I'm pretty sure that when i bought my PS3 i was happy.

Then they're not being materialistic and not buying useless shit. Thank you.

I'm not arguing an armed revolution. I'm arguing anti materialism. There's nothing wrong with spending your money wisely. It helps you, it helps everyone else in the world, and it helps the environment.

Fine life you have there with only your necessary products. A bit hypocritical isn't it when you communicate through "unnecessary" products like a computer, mouse, keyboard.
How can it help everyone in the world? Haven't you paid attention when the economic crisis stirred shit up. When people don't buy goods or make use of services your mommy and daddy won't have a job. No job means that the government probably funds a temporary income for you, (depending in what country you live ..) so more costs for the government and less income (less income from taxes, ...).
As a result that the country and all the inhabitants will go to shit.

Our economy could use an overhaul.
I believe it does not. It's fine how it is even when it has a few flaws. The economy as most of us have now is the best option to support jobs thus a decent income for everyone. Don't let the media trick your mind with their nonsense about how the world is nearing its end.
Like some other people already have said: the economy which most of us have now has progressed a lot in comparison with the one fifty years ago. The good old times where people died of airpollution because of the usage of coals to keep yourself warm.
How would you improve this economy without causing a decline in how we live our lifes now?
You appear to have disregarded the fact that you yourself are a mindless consumer-drone, OP. To think otherwise would be delusional.
Sometimes these internet-communists (actually Stalinists) make me sigh
Our economy could use an overhaul.
The "economy" is determined automatically by it's individuals and their actions. Besides of some pro-competition regulation and taxes, nobody controls it.
That's whats so great about free market, nobody really does anything on purpose to make it exist.

everything that involves the market are made to make the rich richer and the poor poorer

Define "useless shit" because you throw around this term constantly without ever actually giving concrete examples of it.
