Depending on the type of break you have, there will be a difference in the things that need to be done to take care of the break. In all cases, you will want to set an appointment with your dentist to have the break repaired so as not to leave an open sport for decay to produce a cavity.

The way a tooth is made is like this; the tooth has a hard enamel layer on the outside. On the inside there is a substance called dentin. This area is the fleshy raw nerve part that can be painful if exposed.
When someone chips their tooth, this usually is just part of the enamel and the tooth is not exposed down to the dentin. Therefore there is little to no pain involved. In this situation if there is no pain, you will want to call your dentist to have it repaired in a timely manner. Though, it is not a reason to go into an emergency mode. If there is a little pain, you can try some ibuprofen or some pain reliever and numbing gel. Your dentist can then smooth out the chip or build it up to be even.
A break that goes all the way to the pulp is the ones that cause severe pain and problems. Depending on the severity of the break, there can be bleeding from the tooth. With these types of breaks a more immediate dental appointment is needed. The dentist can rebuilt the tooth and give you some pain reliever to help with the pain.
If a tooth is broken to where the pulp in the tooth is damaged, you will need to have your dentist do something like a root canal to repair the problem.
When a tooth breaks, it will be more sensitive to cool things, air, hot things and anything that would be an irritant to the inside of the tooth. With this in mind, it is a good idea not to do anything with a broken tooth to increase the level of pain. When the tooth is rebuilt, then you will be able to continue with your normal daily patterns of eating and drinking.
When the tooth has been repaired, your dentist will probably want to have a follow up appointment to ensure that the haling process is going well.
Well doctor, I was born prematurely and have no enamel on my Back teeth.
Put the tooth in ice, this is very serious!
It's milk not ice
I chipped my tooth once, I hit a ball against a curb and it went straight at my face. Corner fell off, the dentist justs glues a synthetic piece on and it looks completely normal, no hassle at all.
Edit: Oh and theyre sort of sensitive nowadays. Get some sensodyne!
This isn't the Facepunch I remember.
This one is... Smarter.
If your mouth is not big enough for him to put it back in, he slices the sides of your mouth open.
Then he takes a blow torch and an electric drill and he sets to work after he injects a just enough anesthetic to keep you from screaming too loud as blood drips down your neck.
Now a days they make braces with barbed wire to keep people from eating with them.

22 hours 45 minutes until appointment.
I'm not eating so I don't make it worse. ;-;
I chipped one of those corner ones on the top a while back, but never bothered to go to a dentist because it never hurt.
It hurts like fuck when I bite my tongue with it since it's so sharp now, but the tooth itself is fine.
I broke a tooth once. It didn't hurt when it was taken out, it hurt when the dentist decided to pull 5 other teeth out. The reason was apparently "mmgrgngmgnh".
The real problems didn't start until the bit of flesh below the tooth began to die. It tasted worse than a combo of shit, piss, semen and vomit.(Don't ask me how I know.) And I had to hit that with my tounge to eat stuff, so I would try to eat something nice and BAM, shitpisscumvomit all over it. Yay. That was for a fucking month too. :crying:

You know if you don't eat and its really bad and they have to give you numbing injections, drill you and stuff like that, you'll feel worse.
Eat something light, white bread or something like that. But don't eat 4 hours before your appointment if your that scared or you could bring it all back up x]
