A bunch of Redditors think the government is covering up a nuclear event that happened recently
so a bunch of basement dwelling neckbeards think that there is some sort of evil government conspiracy to cover up a nuclear incident in the middle of the country?
Uh, no. Its being reported that there may be a large radon gas leak.
Anyway thats the only real reasonable explanation. Explains the pinpoint, because a gas pocket might have ruptured and all this "government activity" is probably just trying to clean up the mess before people freak the fuck out.
But it is being detected in a lot of places.
Increased radiation levels have been reported by facilities and universities across the country and unconfirmed/un-credible sources say as far south as Brazil.
It only happened yesterday, give it time.
I personally wouldn't believe anything I read on r/politics
I'll believe when the government officially denies it, until then I'll go all X-files.
But r/politics isn't some conspiracy forum, its just a place where everybody hates conservatives. Just like here!
I'm not saying they detonated a nuke or caused a resonance cascade, radon is a real threat and to me its a very real possibility that a large amount got out.

I personally wouldn't believe anything I read on reddit. There's a reason Facepunch is xenophobic towards them. I mean they noticed the radiation, but they bloated it into a conspiracy theory within minutes without first trying to give logical explanations.
I'm not saying there can't be a reasonable explanation for this, but a solar flare would not cause such a radiation spike in a very pinpointed location on Earth, and then not cause any radiation anywhere else.
yeah I'm not a nuclear physicist, it's more likely to be a pocket of radon released somehow like posted above

even if I'm not a nuclear physicist I know that particles usually move a lot slower than light

Reddit is a very large and diverse community. To write them off (not just in this circumstance, but FPers seem to hate other forums with broad generalizations) like that, people would do that here too.
If you read the comments there are plenty of people giving reason and disproving this, which I am inclined to believe more than the ones who do blow it up.
The only reason I am believing these events are because Radon gas leaks all the time, it wouldn't be a surprise that a pocket of it got out.
Seriously, it fits everything. Increased radiation, earthquake-like rumbling (Pocket rupturing), etc...
I'm not saying there is a conspiracy afoot, even if the gov. is actually sending HAZMAT/Helicopters/Planes to the area its to clean up a possible radon gas leak, not to cover up a nuclear event.
Webby alone against the xenophobic hordes of Facepunch.

what, how does that even refute anything I said
also there's no unusual solar activity going on
Frankly, I trust reddit far more than I trust facepunch, so I'll just be ignoring your "take reddit w/ a grain of salt" pandering comment.
Also it seems like the OP of the reddit post seems to be trying to retain his sanity and not delve into conspiracy theories so that gives some credit.
I find this highly interesting even if it comes from reddit, there has been still some abnormal measurements which should be considered/analysed.
Although directly thinking of a secret governement conspiracy is a bit exagerated.
Actually I'm beginning to believe this might be some crazy ARG for a new game.
Its not that crazy, a lot of ARGs have gone way farther than this.
Seriously, that OP of the reddit post could be some PR guy for a game dev building hype.
This will be confirmed the second he posts a link to a mysterious website about a mysterious company or a some mysterious whistleblowing site.

that's a stupid prediction

No more stupid than thinking the government is covering up a nuclear explosion in Indiana.
No more stupid than thinking the government is covering up a nuclear explosion in Indiana.
no it's an order of magnitude more stupid than that
I don' think so.
Does that make me stupid?
[sp]Yes.[/sp]
what, how does that even refute anything I said

because a particle moving at 1% the speed of light would take something like seven hours to get to earth compared to light which takes about 4 minutes iirc
so solar flare's effects could happen on night, which refutes the point of "At night?"
but this is unlikely to be a solar flare like I said on last page so I'll agree with you on that
Even if the particle did take 7 hours to get here it would have hit the day side.
It wouldn't magically curve around the earth and hit the night side.
Night side faces away from the sun so matter what hits the earth, its only hitting the day side.
^^what he said
Massive amount of radioactivity detected across the country
Explosions heard, suddenly TONS of helicopters, planes, jets etc going in one direction
Confirmed nuclear-cleanup units (or whatever they were called) on the move
Military convoy from out of nowhere taking detours
"lol guys it was just a shitty detector"

im fucking retarded
goddamnit
I live right in what appears to be the hotzone for this. Hope it's not true.
There really is no "hotzone"
The most that would happen, even in a huge radon gas pocket break, would lead to faster buildup of radon in houses.
It's the third coming of Jesus.
It's just fear mongering.
No.
It's valve's special surprise. This is how they are releasing Half-Life 3.
