that reminds me I really need to finish building that V. I finished like an hours worth of work many moons ago and stopped because I didn't have the money for the bridge and tuners [editline]19th May 2011[/editline] there's the half finished unrouted body. Someday this will be a beautiful guitar
[img_thumb]http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/7809/axes.jpg[/img_thumb] My guitars, the Les Paul and V are non-functional atm, the Strat's getting new strings this weekend.
Dat V
What about this? :p I'm writing ambient/shoegaze/post-rock type music as a personal/solo project and it's one of my favorite genres of music.
I've been exploring the same genre. Of course, my income and pedal budget is nowhere near as nice as yours :<. At least my Devi-ever BIT/Legend of Fuzz pedal is on the way.
Don't be fooled by my gear, I just got lucky. Buy used! The Strymon is one of I think 4 pedals I've bought brand new out of a shop with the other 9-10 being used. I've also had bad luck with pedals which can be a killer on the wallet since re-selling faulty gear is difficult. I have two Russian pedals from the cold war era that are faulty.. though thankfully I got a hold of the seller who has sent me replacement parts to see if I can get them working. Ebay is mai friend.

If you mean the one I posted earlier that's 100% El Capistan and my amp with a basic clean setting and then mic'd up to my computer. [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] Oh but I'm double-tracking, theres about 5 layers on that 15 second piece. I play the background chords twice and put one track to the left speaker and one to the right to get a much bigger stereo sound and then there's 3 tracks of me tremolo picking with the El Capistan on. Theres 3 tracks of Tremolo picking at different pitches, one kind of left, one right and one in the center.
Ohhhhh fuck. I just got the cash on hand to finally buy those barekuckles...and realized it's also enough to get an upgrade on my WIVI brass synth. Is SAS a thing? Either way AUGH CRIPPLING INDECISION, someone remind me why guitar is better than having a full brass section at my fingertips.

Explains why so many post rock bands are heavy on the guitar players, I know oceansize has 3 when they're not using keys. Right now on my wishlist are some multi-ish units, don't really know what to call them since they're not multi-effects pedals or single pedals. I want the digitech expression factory and the stereo memory man with hazarai then maybe I'll be happy haha. I feel so weird, my two favorite genres are so iconoclast.

And if others do that's a nice bonus. [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] Also my Fuzz Face will be arriving within the next.. 12 hours? :D
V's are NOT okay
I just broke a string on my guitar. Fuck.
I've been trying to dig out an old suitcase I've had for months to do something like this since I jam at other peoples places a lot and just want to take the basics when it comes to pedals. Anyway here's a little sample from my El Capistan, the most beautiful setting I've gotten from it so far.
is that the el capistan only or is it your other stuff aswell?
I think I'm going to make a sensible amp upgrade, instead of trying to opt for some massive quality gig-only amp I'm going to buy the little Fender Champ 600 and a 1x12" cab to cater to the fact that the stock Champ only has a 6" speaker. This little amp has some serious tone considering it only has a volume control. It's all-tube too, I'll probably upgrade the tubes from the stock chinese ones. [editline]20th May 2011[/editline]
is that the el capistan only or is it your other stuff aswell?
That's the El Cap alone, perhaps a tiny bit of spring reverb on my amp but it won't be noticable due to the fact that the El Cap has a really lush built in spring 'verb. Strat -> El Cap -> Amp -> Condenser Mic -> Recording Software
that settles it then. i'm buying an el capistan! pretty expensive though
yeah make sure you want to commit to it then. the el capistan is awesome, very versatile, can do lots of delays and echo types but about 75% of it's operation is just one sound effect.. long drawn out wishy washy lush modulated repeats, it can often sound 'samey' if you don't start to incorporate different techniques into your playing or more effects into the mix. for example playing with different pickups and setting your tone controls differently can produce some really nice ambient effects. doesnt take long to dial in a nice setting but it takes long to dial in lots of DIFFERENT settings that aren't similar to the last.
hi there, complete guitar noob here which wants to learn and, if i make it through the beginning alive, want play some hard-rock;rock;punk and little of metal too. Want to buy my 1st guitar > after some discussion with friend he sent me CORT Zenox Z42. (also don't want to spend more than this) I really like it's design and sounds like it can play almost any genre Opinions? Tips what to keep eye on / ask guy at the store?

PHrag, don't tell the guy you want a beginners guitar.. he will just start spouting shit about awful guitars and amps. Go with something decent but inexpensive, some mid-range squier or epiphone, if your heart is set on the Cort then go for it. What is the most you're willing to pay for a guitar? Not as in how far you would push it before you simply cant pay more.. just a comfortable price you're happy to spend on a guitar. [editline]20th May 2011[/editline] DONT BUY A LINE 6 SPIDER WHATEVER YOU DO. They will try and coax you into.. oh it can do all genres look it even says "Blues, Rock, Metal" on it.. and omg it's 100 watts so you can use it for gigs or turn it right down for practice at home, such an awesome versatile amp that even some pros use! NAY.
don't want to pay over 180 GBP. what would you choose for the genres I said above? HSS or HH? any specific squier model? also I won't buy amp, I plan to play through PC (will buy it later)

wait so do you plug your condenser mic straight into the computer las gunz? i tried that with my shure sm57 and the sound was extremely low so i brought the m audio fast track pro which is a nice bit of kit.

It plays really well and it seems solid, quite a bit heavier than some of the guitars I tried(ex. fender squier) so you may or may not like that. The sound is quite nice, it doesn't sound cheap in my opinion but invest in a decent amp. Some old work using that guitar: Overall it's a great guitar that didn't disappoint, can't say it's the best for you but it's a good choice. Agile is a good and cheap brand too, you may want to check them.

I've got a 4 string peavey dynabass which I've never changed the strings on and I'd like to start playing it again. I'm only really interested in standard and drop D tuning so what gauge strings should I get? I'm not after any particular sound but I use DR Handmade Pure Blues on my guitars because I love the sound and the feel. Thoughts?
55s or 60s?

I sooooo want a Danelectro.. they're the only "ugly" guitars I genuinely love despite their hideous shapes and they sound fantastic. I want this one. Definitely getting one in Aqua no matter what model.
thanks for reply, today I found Epiphone G310, what do you think in comparison with the Z42? also I couldn't find any HSS strat in my price range that doesn't have tremolo :/
