Brought a 1972 roadworn fender telecaster custom about a week ago, its so perfect will post pictures tomorrow.
I've got a friend who is in a band, and his bed room is also his band room. I've fucked around with one of his many guitars before, but never brought up playing. I just asked and he said he'd teach me the basic chords and stuff. Awesome.
i learned single-handedly
I, uh, learned "two-handedly" I guess, because it's hard to play guitar with one hand - unless you're playing some chugging drop tuning power chord shit with no melodic variation whatsoever (000 0000 00 etc) or unless you use a crazy tuning for each song for ultimate open string playing
Fuck yes! I get to play Friday by Rebecca black tomorrow with changed lyrics in spanish for a project. Easy 100!
Just bought some tabs from Antoine Dufour. Currently learning "Lost In Your Eyes". I've gotten about 30 seconds sloppily done in a week. It makes me think, I really have never learned any hard songs before [editline]1[/editline] I don't visit this thread a lot, but does anybody want to see a cover of it later on?
Just got my Ibanez back, finally works, awesome clean sound, needs a full setup tho :| Edit: after looking it up a little, I think at some point there was a floyd rose installed on that guitar, since the trem cavity is routed so it can go back and I got a bigger hole for what could be fine tuners. Also on the headstock there are 4 screw holes like a locking nut and the little bar that comes with floyd roses were installed after the nut, just like hypnotoad's strat with the kahler trem
Just spent about an hour messing around with my new pedals. Holy shit that Catalinbread is amazing. I'm probably going to need a more regular delay with tap tempo and stuff (also it sounds crap with distortion), but for atmosphere and soundscaping this thing is unlike anything I've ever heard. Great for really subtle, short delay as well. Think the opening of "Run Like Hell" by Pink Floyd or "Voyage 34" by Porcupine Tree. Reverb is also pretty damn awesome, but not too much to say. It's a reverb and it sounds realistic.

Gonna try and take up the guitar again. I'm living away from home whilst I study drums atm. Soon I am going home for a week and then I will bring back my scanner, then from college I will burrow someones notes for the guitar course and try to teach myself.

might get a 1 month job this summer - sweeeeet cash what should i buuuuuuuy
It appears Axe Palace did me good. Considering if I'd ordered those directly it'd be $340 at current exchange rates (and not counting VAT or shipping) that's a pretty huge deal. I was expecting to pay ~$350.
Is it possible to switch preamp tubes for fun? My amp uses 12AX7's, and I want to try some 5751's for some more boost and little gain. If I want to try a different tube, does that mean I have to buy all 6 of them to swap everything in? [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] Also, the vibroverb has an amazing tone that I WANT.
Did you have the delay before or after distortion and was it in the fx chain or in the amps fx loop? Delay is better in an amps effects loop.
My amp has no effects loop, and I'm using the channel switching for distortion. It only occured to me today that that's probably why it sounds bad. I should get a distortion pedal. And a tube amp with an effects loop. And a 12 string. And a 7 string. Damnit why does being a guitarist mean you constantly want expensive things? Edit: Just discovered my amp does have an effects loop, it just needs a splitter cable to work. It's the company's way of trying to get you to buy their YPP-117 cables. Also, can anyone shed any light on what would be the difference between using a distortion pedal and a distortion pre-amp pedal? I really like the sound of this: http://www.amtelectronics.com/products/amt_legend_amp_series/amt_r-1_legend_amps_peda/ It emulates the sound of a Rectifier, which is what I'm going for. I just have no idea if it will do anything to the rest of my pedals or my clean tone. I'm pretty new to the whole technical side of things.
Working on a medley of Bloody Tears, Septette for the Dead Princess, 25 or 6 to 4, and Tubular Bells.

can anyone recommend a set of budget tuners? [editline]25th May 2011[/editline] 6 in line guitar, this strat I got sure needs a new set.
Orange amps arent the best for taking pedals.. they're not exactly known for having good clean sounds.
I can NOT believe you just said that
I can NOT believe you just said that
I KNOW, that is like saying a sponge isn't good at holding water...
budget tuners aren't something you want to look at. grover schaller gotoh hipshot and maybe kluson are the only brands really worth buying
There are a few exceptions though...
Ah fuck. A string broke on my guitar so my dad nicely went and got me a new set, I get home and decide to replace it and the new one snaps. Fuck.
There are a few exceptions though...
well of course just cheap tuners often slip out of tune fairly quickly.
Ah fuck. A string broke on my guitar so my dad nicely went and got me a new set, I get home and decide to replace it and the new one snaps. Fuck.
Same exact thing happened to me last week.
Ah fuck. A string broke on my guitar so my dad nicely went and got me a new set, I get home and decide to replace it and the new one snaps. Fuck.
look for pieces of metal in the bridge. if you keep your shit clean you'll never break a string. I haven't broken a string in nearly five years with eight hours of playing each day
look for pieces of metal in the bridge. if you keep your shit clean you'll never break a string. I haven't broken a string in nearly five years with eight hours of playing each day
Manufacturing defects, weird tension, different string types. I've got a pair on my acoustic I've absolutely abused with poor weather, a shitty nut and a jury-rigged bridge putting a lot of tension on the high e, and they've held like a charm. At the same time I've put a brand-new D'addario set on my electric with the floyd tied down, and a string spontaneously popped after righting it and starting to tune, which never repeated itself on that string (and only then with old sets.) Flukes are life, and there's enough minor variables between tension, material, construction, storage conditions, age, weather and instrument condition to allow for the occassional (un)lucky snap.
stop buying cheap shit and take care of your things and breaking a string is rare. of course sometimes strings will break if you're playing decade old 12s in all fifths with a metal pick but generally you really shouldn't break strings that often [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] I have noticed though that younger guitar players (ie average gdt regular) break strings more often than older and/or more experienced ones so it might just be that the kids play too hard or something
finally got the fuckin' internet back.
Is it possible to switch preamp tubes for fun? You could also consider changing your speaker out to something other than stock. Celestion Greenbacks are le awesome. Yeah, you can switch one tube at a time - no need to swap all of them out. And yes. Vibroverb PLEASE.
I can NOT believe you just said that
Orange amps are traditionally very harsh which is kind of their signature sound when it comes to gain. I never said they can't do cleans.. they're just not the best IMO.
stop buying cheap shit and take care of your things and breaking a string is rare. of course sometimes strings will break if you're playing decade old 12s in all fifths with a metal pick but generally you really shouldn't break strings that often I have noticed though that younger guitar players (ie average gdt regular) break strings more often than older and/or more experienced ones so it might just be that the kids play too hard or something
Yeah all of this is true. Learn to string a guitar properly, fix your truss rod, set a decent action, have the nut cut correctly for your gauge of strings or get a tech to do all of this for you - and don't cheap out on strings. You get what you pay for.
