if they can't afford an axe fx that is
I come into the Guitar thread expecting 70 posts about guitars. I click, and see a two page arguement between two people who can't decide between them what an opinion is.
Anyway, I think the bass discussion thread died out a few months ago, so does anyone know of a relatively cheap bass overdrive/distortion pedal?
Big Muff? Might be more fuzzy than what you're looking for but it's like the traditional bass dirt pedal
ahaha you know the auction i was talking about (line 6 pod xt)?
turns out either he/his friend bid more than 35 dollars just because it was so low in price. reported him and hopefully he'll get removed.
[editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
he bid 2 dollars per bid to make it look like it had many bidders, they're like 3 serious bidders and 1 scam one.

Yeah I know.. but now I feel like anything I say is going to be taken as fact or as if im some kind of know-it-all and I can't be having that.. and I can't make it clear otherwise without clarifying now.
Seriously, there isn't anything better than this.

not as hard as buttersnips
alright, so I'm buying a new Guitar and I have a couple questions, First of all it is an Epiphone LP JR for 75$, which IMO is a very good deal, as it comes with a gig bag, amplifier, and a chord, so anyway my first question is that this LP JR has no cover on the pickup, but I see that most LP JR's have one on the pickup(s), so my question is do the Pickup covers make a difference? what I would like to do with the guitar is buy it, and upgrade the tuners, the pickup (preferably to an EMG active pickup) so are there certain pickups that wont fit in a certain guitar?
heres a picture of the guitar:

no way. M-Audio Fast Track along with my regular pedal board
[editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
it will probably have a bit less twang without the cover which doesn't matter unless you're playing country.
also that's an amazing deal, I'm pretty jealous.
[editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
it's a great guitar if you swap the tuners though

he uses the same Ibanez I have!
I have an influence to cover pride and joy right now, even though it's the most generic blues song.

"Who says you need to buy a guitar?"
I picked up a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face today ($160 including tax and a dozen picks, not a bad deal for a brand new one) and my dad mentioned that it was the only pedal he's ever wanted. he jelly

How are the Periphery covers going? Is there any chance of a video soon?
uhm.... it's not much i can play, i'm stuck on buttersnips, still haven't learned the solo of jetpacks was yes and i'm still doing frak the gods.
[editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
started a tiny bit on totla mad aswell, barely know anything though :-P
[editline]28th May 2011[/editline]
can make a video if you want, gonna finish off frak the gods first
Wtf so I found out what's wrong with my Big Muff.
The tone pot is gubbed.. all I need to do is swap in a new one and it's sorted. Boom!
Guys I'm going to purchase a new guitar pretty soon, and in particular I've been looking at the Epiphone casino; how do you guys think it compares to similar arch tops such as the Dot? Style of playing is mostly rock, blues and jazz. Thanks :)
Ok I've been researching Multi-fix units today, specifically mid-high end DSP's like the Line 6 Pod HD or M9/13's, also the TC Nova System and a couple others. You all know what I'm like with pedals so this is a big deal for me.
I really, REALLY want the Line6 Pod HD400. It has everything I want just now.
- Realistic and High quality amp models
- Great effect recreations (Line6 have been pretty great with effects in general)
- Effects Loop which can be programmed to be pre or post 'preamp'
- Ability to adjust your effects pre or post amp (ie a digital fx loop as well)
- USB direct to PC into software for recording, since it's a pre-amp
- Updateable software, free amps/patches and such all over the web
And a few other things that make it highly desirable for someone like me.
I'm really tempted to pick one up as an investment and really get on the recording wagon, instead of dancing around it because of my poor 'bedroom' recording setup. I have all the means for great bedroom recordings.. I just can't because of the volume and moany parents.
It'd be a hefty £350 investment but it literally will do everything and for gigging it would be a breeze, direct to PA and I'd have everything set to go.
never expected you of all people to buy something like that
Well I just explained why.. it'd be an investment, it opens tons of new doors for me and I still get to nurse my pedal addiction by using it's effects loop and such.

update on periphery songs:
haven't learned anything new. stuck on all songs :smith:
i'm not saying you shouldn't or something, and i bet it's a sublime pedal. but you were always going for that organic special sound and all. this is basically the opposite of what you usually go for.
i remember you talking down to multi effect pedals.
Well yeah, that's true. I still feel the same but this isn't just a Zoom G2 or whatever.. it's a DSP unit that works tremendously hard to recreate certain amps and such.
It doesn't just take your signal, chuck an EQ on it and then give you an array of effects, it converts your signal to a digital signal and puts it through it's own algorithms and programming then chucks out an anolog signal again.
And it has a FX Loop remember.. not in the conventional "post-preamp" sense.. this effects loop can be controlled any way you want so I can do something like
Tuner > Fuzz/Drive > HD400 (El Capistan in FX Loop) > Amp or USB-to-PC
I can still use all my pedals if I wish but this lets me do much more than my current setup can do in the way of gigging and recording.
