"all the heavy guitarists i know", do you know my friends too?
That's true, we don't, but you shouldn't base a brand on a couple of people you know.
Ibanez are usualy pointy, hi-gain, "metal" guitars.
Sorry bro seems pretty narrow minded to me. :colbert:
I don't base it on a couple of people i know, it might just be a "thing" in my area but all I see are Ibanez (or Dean) guitars when it comes to heavier genre guitarists and it's quite common to see it all over the internet.
I know fine well that almost any guitar can do what you want it to and the brand, pickups and even the quality or type of wood doesn't need to define that.
And I should also add this applies to people who want to suck steve vai, satch, yngwie, guthrie and all these other guys dick. I appreciate them as guitarists but I hate their fans.
This is my opinion too.. I may be stereotyping to an extent but I'm not saying it's a fact.
I'm even looking at buying an Ibanez to be my "humbucker" guitar even though im a huge strat/tele enthusiast, I just want to find the right one.
Calm yer jets lads

Sorry bro, you missed "usually". USUALLY kind of works in tandem with GENERALLY.

I only see 5/6 metal looking guitars there. Just sayin'.

I shouldn't have picked on Metal as much, it GENERALLY applies to a TYPE of guitarist then, not a genre.
The kind that play sweep picking, want "djenty" sound, use high gain, scallop their frets, suck steve vai (or similar/relevant guitarists) dick etc
And to clarify, yes i know sweep picking can be used beautifully in many genres, yes i know high gain can be used outside of this "type" of guitar playing, yes i know a lot of jazz guitarists scallop their frets, i dont think steve vai and similar are shit i just don't like them
finally this is opinion
I give up, calling it a day. 'Night folks.
This is why I hate guitar forums. Everyone thinks that one guy who has an opinion is narrow minded and spouting facts everywhere.
By experience and association I see Ibanez as a heavier (heavier than say blues or generic rock) genre guitar, I don't think for a second every heavy guitarist aspires for an Ibanez and I certainly don't think they're solely built for that.
Ibanez make guitars/basses with thin necks and low action, making them good for speed and precision playing. I can see why people do think IBEANEZ = METULL, but I mean, my friend who is metal elitist just bought a Les Paul copy.
On a less "ogm stpo saying ur opniont is fact!!" note..
I'm cut between doing a relic'd cherry/fiesta red finish or a relic'd orange finish on my strat build.

What kind of guitarist is that?
What kind of guitarist is that?
They're the kind I described. I don't have a name for it because I honestly don't know what you'd call them.

I browsed a lot of the pages in this thread when i was bored and all of your posts are quite cunty and recently you've looked like much more of a cock than usual. i remember in the gmf when you were preetty decent.. wat happened?
I've never heard/met any one like that in my life.
mostly anyone who wants to play like steve vai or satch or ygnwie malmsteen or yes even a lot of metal guitarists. and when i say that i don't mean huge famous guitarists, i mean a person who plays guitar like you and me and plays metal or some other higher gain genre..
notice the "ly" words i've used like generally, usually, mostly. they all actually put the sentences i write into a context.
and it's also my opinion.
Welp, i'm apparantly still here.

it's as much your thread as it is mine.
why am i not allowed to share my opinion? you guys are making it out like im being a narrow minded cunt and acting as if im stating fact and not what i personally think.
i know ibanez are good for more than the things i said i associate them with and have said that various times while speaking about said opinion.
Alright guys, I've been thinking about taking on my first major guitar project and I'd like your help and advice. I have this decent beginner's guitar, my first electric, that just sits and collects dust. It's, as I said, only a beginner's guitar and it has some serious problems. The jack came loose which was causing a feedback issue, I fixed that. Thought it would be good to go, plugged it into my amp, no signal just nasty distorted feedback. Pretty much everything is low quality or just shit. So I'm thinking all new tuners, electronics, bridge, pickguard, finish, pretty much everything except the body and neck. I think the body is basswood, it's pretty alright but I don't know anything about the neck. Might need replacing too. Anyway, I should probably get around to telling you guys what it actually is. It's called a Fender StarCaster, Strat imitator designed for beginning players. If you guys know anything about it, let me know, I don't.
I'm confident that with the help of my music teacher and guitar shop, I could take care of anything that needs expert guidance. Routing, soldering, sanding, what have you. What I've come to ask you guys is this, are there any decent only guides or books on dos and don'ts of guitar building and basic, general guidelines? I have taken apart an even cheaper Squire strat imitator so when I take off the pickguard I know what to expect and I understand how the guitar works. And do you guys think the project is even worth the money? Thanks guys.
Honestly you should probably just get a new guitar
Honestly you should probably just get a new guitar
I got a very nice acoustic cheap from that guitar shop I mentioned for my birthday and an Ibanez Artcore hollow body for Christmas. I don't so much need a new guitar as I want to rebuild an old one and say "Yeah I turned that piece of shit into a fine, playable guitar." It's more for the experience and the fact I want a guitar that fulfills needs my current setup can't, which will probably also include a new amp.
Oooooh
I thought it was like the only guitar you had
In that case, any and all help you could possibly need is a google or two away

Alright, thanks. I was just expecting it to be more complicated. I know a guitar is a delicate instrument and regardless of the fact it was like $100 I don't want to fuck it up. If I ever do finish getting the money and parts together I'll post pictures.
Building a guitar from parts is fairly easy, since generally they're all made to fit in a lot of cases.
I'm building a guitar 100% from parts I've bought from seperate places so not one piece is from the same line or manufacturer in most cases but as long as you check measurements match before buying you'll be fine.

Pickguard and strings came today for my repair project, getting the tuner tomorrow...
You appear to be missing some frets. :smug:
