Do the Dixie Dregs mean anything to you
[editline]27th March 2011[/editline]
He's also been the guitarist for Deep Purple since the 90's
Dixie Dregs? Wut :v:
I know of Deep Purple, but I think I only listened to Smoke on the Water once just to see how much every guitarist on the planet was murdering it...
I don't really know why I haven't listened to them.

:psyduck: oh god man, get the rest of Machine Head at the very least :smith:

Also, Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse Band and solo, his playing is unbelievable in all of them. I'd be inclined to argue he is the lead player with the best picking hand I've encountered. AND he uses his pinky for leads :v:

don't like the way the pickups are placed but otherwise: grrrrrrrrr
Hell yeah, my college band just got picked to play at a festival cross competition in Newcastle during April to a crowd of least a couple thousand people.
20 mintue set. The only shit thing is it's so short notice. We've been a band since september and have had at least 1 practice/4 hour session for every friday since september but that's been us finding songs and learning them, not sitting down with a set to get tight as possible for the show. We're pretty confident but we've got a few looong practice sessions leading up to April.

On an semi-unrelated note, I fucking love my pedals. Especially that little Biyang OD I bought. I only have overdrive/fuzz pedals just now because I'm finding my "tone" before I start to fuck around with actual effects, I'm pretty happy with "my tone", it's a nice cross between Hendrix and SRV, all neck/mid single coil with a quite harsh but mid-rangey tone.
Getting my Cry Baby Wah tomorrow or wednesday and my next purcahse is the EHX Electric Mistress, some sort of Tremolo pedal and probably some form of Delay or Reverb, I can't decide which I want/need more.
that's great news! have fun :buddy:
[QUOTE=>LEAD22<;28846197]Some tasty stuff. (which needs a bit of cleaning)

Never seen a bridge like that
Does anyone know a good place to get a bunch of backing tracks? I'm getting kinda sloppy, and I want something tight to play against.

It's a Weber mass attenuator I believe, lets you crank the volume for that tube tone without blowing the windows out your house :v:
The bridge for the Steve Morse sig is designed by Music Man, it's basically a Tune o matic style bridge but the tailpiece is bolted directly to the top
So, I need a new guitar for thrash and heavy metal, im thinking of the ibanez rg730 dx
which is 400ish euros. Will the floyd rose fuck things up, and will the whammy bar make it go out of tune after one dive bomb? I would like a whammy bar, but if its crappy im probably better of getting a fixed bridge.
Also, guitar suggestions for about 400 euros please.
If you get the guitar set up right using then the Floyd Rose won't make a difference to the tuning, ever.. if the tech is good.

Well, its a lincensed floyd rose... So it probably isnt the best tech. Although i've heard that if setup properly, it wont have problems with tuning, or using the whammy bar like kerry king. Ok, maybe not like kerry king, but should hold decently.
I liked Ritchie Blackmore better

Floating-bridge tremolo units are a major pain in the ass. The locking tuners and bi-directional bridge make changing tunings take far longer and much more effort than they're worth. Regular, non-locking trem. units might detune your guitar faster, but it also means that you can change tunings much more easily.
The easiest bridge type to change tunings with is a hardtail, but that also means you get no tremolo unit. Personally for playing a variety of metal I greatly prefer hardtails, because they let me downtune MUCH more, and much more easily. However, it also means no diving on harmonics or open notes, which is also common in metal.

Bending with floating bridges is very annoying though. I blocked my EX's Floyd Rose Special because of it, and it also couldn't hold it's tuning properly, even with a locking nut and grovers.

"Licensed" doesn't really mean anything other than "made by somebody else", the question is whether or not they skimped out on it. Mine is licensed and it holds up perfect, I just hate the hassle of tuning and restringing with it and that's a general trem issue.
That said I've read complaints that the Edge III (what the ibby site says is on it) is absolutely atrocious and made of terrible materials, so yeah, I'd be cautious.
As an RG owner, I can say as long as you remain in one tuning it's a fine guitar.
Restringing isn't a problem aslong as you do one string at a time.

And that's the biggest problem - with any floating bridge.

By tech I meant the Guitar Tech.. if he's any good then his set up will mean the guitar will rarely if ever go out of tune through extensive use of the tremolo, let him know you intend to use it a lot.
I've got a very cool NGD coming up in a couple of weeks. I returned my 27 fretter because I was having so many issues with the floyd. Hardtails are the way forward for me. I just need to make up the cash difference for a vastly superior guitar.
Edit: Hah, this seems relative to discussion.
Jazz band is looking good. I intend to play both guitar and bass in said band with a saxophone and piano player.
Now we just need a drummer or something
I want the Boss Fender Deluxe Reverb modelling pedal, it does a great job of emulating the sound of the amp because it works as a pre-amp instead of some shoddy EQ.
Getting paid soon so I think I'm gonna pick up a couple of cool pedals. I usually scour ebay for great deals on slightly uncommon pedals instead of going for big names but this Boss pedal is too good to pass up.
