Our band was awful. The singer/bassist and lead guitarist were just arrogant metalheads. The drummer and I were simply musicians for hire, and we played our instruments well. The drummer could play anything from Tech Death to swing, he's a really cool guy, I caught up with him for coffee the other day and discussed where we were. Apparently he was broke and the other two got an independent local record deal, not sure who with seeing as we left their asses because they took the stage. It felt like 2 guys with us in the background, not a whole band, and for us that really didn't work
It should have worked, If you where nice, you would have said you would help them get to the stage where they could replace you easily. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Although bands with my friends don't work, as my friends only really like pop punk or glam metal, the two genres that I'm not too keen on.

My band has agreed that I can drag solos out really well and still have new ideas, so we all have solos, but mine end up being really long. I always ask them, "Do you feel like I'm upstaging you?" They always tell me that I'm the frontman, I should do what I want, but they want a hand in a solo. I'm happy that I found people who are musical like I am, I can actually talk to them about music and they understand what I say. Also, going to take pictures right now, god damnit.

I tried it out and it did the 2 wahs great, the univibe sounded pretty spot on too. The best part about the pedal is the ability to change the range. Although you can't replace those pedals with just one, this is a damn good copy of them.
Here's the tokai strat. [img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/DSC_00911.png[/img_thumb]
Absolutely stunning. I want a Tokai :(
the slots that the strings go through on the head those can be replaced right? it seems the new bottom (thick) string i just put on chipped a piece off the edge of it.
Do you mean the nut? this :
yes
the slots that the strings go through on the head those can be replaced right? it seems the new bottom (thick) string i just put on chipped a piece off the edge of it.
I chipped off a piece on my sg a long time ago, it's better to get it fixed soon, mine cut into the nut more and more each time I played it. It ended up sounding like a sitar until a guitar tech fixed it.
and your suppsoed to trim the excess off of the strings right? [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] how much is it to fix it?
Depends on where you live and how nice the people at the guitar shop are.
My mate and I were having a jam today.. we always get into these deep drawn our half our long blues jams with the same 3 chords and it never gets boring. Here's a recording from tonight. My guitar is the gainy one and my friends is the cleaner one. He's much better at articulating blues stuff.. I just throw out spurts of riffs and petatonic box stuff :p Should also point out this was recorded on my mobile phone with it's bizarrely awesome microphone.
and your suppsoed to trim the excess off of the strings right? [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] how much is it to fix it?
I think mine was $5.
Depends on where you live and how nice the people at the guitar shop are.
does the whole head have to be replaced or is that just a separate part? whats the average? are we talking like 20 bucks or 200 bucks [editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
I think mine was $5.
oh thatrs a relief next time i go to guitar center ill have them take a look

I think they charged me like $45 but it also included a brand new nut with the setup.

The guy loves me since I come in and jam on all the strats, apparently I attract customers. He said he owed me a favor, so I bought the nut for 5, and he did labor for free. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Oh lord, you're talking about guitar center, no idea mate. I go to local shops where shopowners work there and don't have a rules and regulations.
I like and dislike local shops. Making relationships with the owners and workers in small shops is excellent and generally they'll do you a deal if you're a valued and regular customer, sometimes I just drop in to talk about guitars and gear or show off whatever new gear I've got but I dislike them because generally they have one of everything and can only get the rest on special order (unless it's accessories like strings and shit) and they're sometimes more pricey than franchise stores because they need to make a profit to sustain themselves. Though I have found some great deals in my local shop too so it depends.

Wow I want this

Like a $12 pack of strings is 14 and a $8 Pickguard $22 Ive found that most deals are a lot better online...

The nut fell off when I went to restring my guitar. I ended up doing the repair myself and its all good now. Either go to a luthier, be careful with guitar center, or learn to do it yourself.
Well, I don't have time to get a new set of strings today, and I think the store's closed tomorrow, so I guess I'll just sit around with my bass (which also needs some work).
Not sure what I want to do with the finish on the guitar I'm building. Option 1 The body I'm using is a polyurethane finish on it but it has a nice sunburst paintjob.. I want to relic the guitar somewhat but Poly is a cunt and a half to relic because it's nearly bulletproof.. so I can sand some parts of it and make it look kind of relic'd Option 2 I completely sand down the body and then put a white finish on, slightly relic that and then put a red finish on it and then do the full relic on that so what you get is the red finish with white parts showing through the chipped and worn parts providing a cool 'vintage' custom guitar look.. then I would coat it with Nitrocellulose to give it a better more "naturally aging" finish. For reference: Polyurethane - thick yucky plastic that coats 99% of guitars made in the past few decades, it's indestructable really Nitrocellulose - it's purpose was mostly to stop paint falling off guitars not "protect" them, so they wore out and "aged" better which provided some cool vintage looks after the guitar had been a few years old The reason I don't jump for the obvious better choice (option 2) is because i really wanted a sunburst strat.. but i'm not attemping a sunburst for my first build and paintjob.
My local store would sell me an ESP LTD Deluxe H-1001fm for $1200, I bought it off Musician's Friend for $750, plus about $200 shipping, taxes/brokerage. :colbert:
