Guitar Discussion Thread V7 - More strings the better
My guitar uses a stereo output jack for that purpose- the second channel is just used to complete a circuit that turns everything on when you've plugged a cable in.
I assumed that was standard procedure for active pickup equipped guitars.
it is, but people forget to pull it out. or leave it in if they can't switch off the amp so they don't get static.
Should I save up my money for an ISP Decimator G String, or can I just go for a Boss NS-2 for like half the price? I have a show in 9 days, and I'd like to not be noisy as FUCK the whole time.
ISP is definitely better. Much more natural sounding
Where do you guys get music from or do you just play it by ear? I'm not that good with the guitar to play it by ear yet.
I'm new to guitar but I've played piano for 12 years so I know how to read music.
And no, not tabs. I'd prefer sheet music.
Nice to see another pianoman here! I usually play by ear, but you can go to ultimate-guitar.com and they have Tablature for Guitar Pro 5. If you download guitar pro, it'll display the tabs and the sheet music for you.
What genre do you play on piano? I'm more of a classical and jazz guy.
I fucking love playing guitar.
same here, i just did an epic cover of paschendale by iron maiden, no mistakes, my amps tone was sick and improvised all three solos wonderfully and in the correct key Em, Dm and Am. shit was so cash wish i recorded it.
Just replaced my shitty distortion pedal with a Bad Monkey by digitech. Now I just need my wilshire back :<
Completely improvised piss take turned into a proper good cover of Fools Rush In.

My mate singing and playing acoustic, I'm doing the electric stuff.

Fuck I didn't realise how good my little on the spot solo came off around 3:10, I'm well pleased with that.
i sketched how my guitar should look like
i'm cheating a lot here, buying stratocaster stuff and remaking the body (making the edges a little sharper) and neck. now all i need is money, time and knowledge.
You must be kidding :what:
Bass should be seen, not heard
My god, the memories.
welp. :ohdear:
You must be kidding :what:

Bass is my favourite thing to hear in a song, just so round, and "bbrwug".
I learned the Pentatonic Scale :downs:
I am guitar master!
I really only use the pentatonic scale unless a cover calls for something else which I play not through theory but through just happening to know what note goes where.
I don't feel like I really need anymore, but then again I like hendrix and SRV.. I don't need much more :p
most of my works end up in mixolydian mode if I'm writing on piano, ionian if I'm on bass or guitar
Can't tell you why it just happens like that
So I got a recording of two songs from my band Oni check it out it's all in one take. I'll try to improve the quality later.

this track is currently not available
made link public now sorry
2nd track is miles better than the first, imo
The first one was experimental, mostly leftover riffs going into one song
The second one was basically the bassist's song with ideas from me.
until he starts growling i dont like it now but the riff is still nice :P
[editline]10th April 2011[/editline]
the music is nice, the singing was good at first.. he shouldnt shout/growl like that. it kills it IMHO.
It's great to have feedback, keep it coming. Dont be afraid to criticize (I know u will xenocidebot)
Btw in the second song instead of me playing the 7th string as an extra bass I decided to move it to a 5th from the bass to add more surround sound if you get what I mean. Do you think that would sound better?
dont have much to say about the 1st song it's just not my kind of music but the 2nd song seems like a completely different genre, the riff is awesome.. but the singing growly part and when it gets crazy at the end are my only "complaints" they dont seem to fit really.
If you would compare us to a band it would be Melvins for the fact we don't write strictly in a genre. If it sounds good we will. The first song is pretty much our progressive side and the other song is more stoner/sludge, but I thank you for the compliments mate. I really appreciate it!

Any critique on the solos?
Exploring the joys of open tuning, learning some delta blues

I used to play with open tunings a lot, it gets pretty fun

It's certainly an interesting approach. I play a little clawhammer banjo and it feels somewhat similar. One thing that I love doing just an hour in is using the top D to play the melody with a knife edge (too lazy to crack a bottle for a slide) and then use the octave D on the 4th string as a drone.
I just cut up a beer can and wrapped it around my finger, instant slide

That's actually a good idea. I just bent a butterknife in half, interesting tone, wasted metalware :v: , what do you play?
Here is a WIP. I think I put too much compression on, but I'll inspect it tomorrow as I have bad ear fatigue as of now.

That's how it should be. Play whatever you think sounds good, and don't give a shit about what others say. That's the way to get an interesting band, not by trying to polish every single part of the song.

And I should now go to bed since it's 05:05 here.

pretty much anything with strings really. I've got guitars, basses, pianos, violins, and acoustic and electric variations of each (except violin, I've only got an acoustic violin). I've even got a few homemade instruments that defy classification (including a whamola, a banzitar, a dijbass, and some others)
My favourite of my instruments is entirely homemade except for the metal bits, it's a 4-string bass guitar, has a poplar body designed after the 1986 Dynabass (link), maple neck with rosewood 22-fret fingerboard, all gold hardware, active EQ with a passive bypass switch
I've got an old picture of the active circuit board here, from right when I had finished it a few months ago. don't have any pictures of the instrument itself yet, I still need to get it painted properly.
