Guitar Discussion Thread V7 - More strings the better

Behold, my Ibanez Ax7 is complete!
I picked this up for a little over 100 bucks months ago, and decided to mod the shit out of it. This was my first time stripping a poly finish, and I learned a lot along the way. (my only previous experience was my partscaster tele that I built a couple years ago.)
Hope you guys enjoy.
I've decided I want to learn to play bass, but I don't really know anything about it at the moment.
I'm not too sure where to start, but I guess actually buying one would be a decent starting point. I'd be looking for something relatively cheap for now (until I'm sure I want to carry on with it), but apart from that I really don't know what else to look for.
There are some really cheap packages on ebay (guitar + amp + cable); would it be worth grabbing one of them?
Would love some advice.
If you're going for a pack, go for a Squier set. The amp won't be up to much else other than practice on your own, but that's all you'll need for a little while. The bass itself will be alright for a fairly long time as long as it's not a certain kind of Squier, either Bullet or Affinity (I can't remember which). You can upgrade hardware in it as well so you don't need to get a new bass for a long time.
I am a jazz master! (not really, but I Improved a solo over a backing track I found on YT, And it sounded pretty beast, considering I was playing it)
This was the backing track for anyone wondering

Thanks. The Squier sets are a bit more expensive (around £250) than the others (£100 - £150) I was looking at, are they worth the extra money? As I said in my previous post, I'm just looking for something cheap at the moment, and I don't mind spending more in the future if I decide I want to continue with it.
A squier will do you for a long time.. at least they're a reliable brand.

Also god dammit I want this guy to post my Telecaster, estimated delivery is the 14th and the guy hasn't even marked it as posted yet on ebay.
That's because you're an experienced guitar player now?...
I'm talking about when we were beginners it was obviously fun
how is a car that is also a boat not better than just a boat seriously
And then after a while you find out you don't actually need that much effects.
I need as many effects as I can get.
Then again I'm stuck on my mixer, I have no idea how much kill is overkill to a gigger.
I ordered a Zoom G2.1Nu, but I got a Zoom G2.1u instead. I am disappointed, but meh I've heard the 1u is good too.
I'm surprised I've never heard of that. For the price (and coming with a form of Cubase) that's a pretty rad deal.

Well old bullets were made of plywood, but I think the new ones and the Affinity stuff are both really meh construction and wood choice- but that's kinda to be expected for the price.
Have any of you fixed a guitar that have that stupid humming sound when it's idling?
Does it really depend on the wiring in your house as some say, or is it something inside the guitar that's causing the problem?

The electronics around the amp can have an effect on it.
What kind of guitar do you have or what type of pickups?
Humbuckers.

Running it into both the computer and the amp causes humming.

Are you using wireless internet connections? They interfere. Also I heard monitors can interfere with your guitar somehow.
Is the cable decent? If you're in a noisy area and it's not shielded that might be your problem.

I think both of those are more common with older or cheaper singlecoils than humbuckers but it seems like people have had complaints with those pups and CRT noise before so who knows.

it is mostly the wiring in your house
everything else that running on the same circuit as your amp is going to add noise
some more than others but still
the direction you're facing has something to do with it as well
try turning around while you're holding your guitar and listen to the change
This guy is incredibly talented for his age.. both at guitar and singing.

Yes I am. Thanks for the tip, I'll try turning the router off tomorrow.

I'm not sure what brand it is as I got the cable a while ago, but it was around 15 USD. It says on the cable that it's shielded, and I've been moving it around, but it doesn't seem to help much. I'll look into that too. I should probably get a new one either way as it's kinda long.

Thanks for the tips. I'll do it tomorrow, now is time to sleep.
Also you guys are awesome. I was looking around on Google, couldn't find anything decent.
Infact here's an even better example of Jonny Lang, he was only 17 when he made this:

I wish I was that talented right now, I'm 19 soon and this guy was making amazing music and singing like that at 16-17.

Happy to help :buddy:
Basically anything that broadcasts a signal will interfere, even just a little. I was once near a radio studio, and i got a crystal clear signal from them when i held my guitar in the air :v:
Just check your house for broadcasting devices (even wireless phones and shit like that) and turn them off if you can. Also like Xeno said, check the cable. Getting the amp's power through a circuit divider (dunno what the exact name is, english isnt my first language), that could cause interference.

I have problems with it and i have humbuckers so i guess it still goes.
Cables are probably the most important part of your sound
If the cable is bad, the signal from the guitar get's fucked and it will not sound as good as it can

Fix'd

This is so true
Really, go the extra mile in your wallet to get a genuinely good cable. It's so worth it in the end

Can't beat the £70 HB. Not even made of plywood, it's composite or some shit. I dunno what my Shine is made of which annoys me, but my Dean is unfortunately basswood.
Dean *cringe*
I think the Shine is a WPJB700 series but it only says solid wood on the site and it's too heavy to be plywood
[editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
might be basswood, but it's pretty heavy
Dean *cringe*
I wanted one, okay? I realise now that the Metalman V would have been a better choice over the Z, but I still love mine.
[editline]13th April 2011[/editline]
apart from the fact there are no replacement pickups that fit. Seymour Duncan and EMG soapbars are different dimensions
Hey it's your guitar, I just don't like Dean in any way at all.
Also the fact that they made about 28 Dimebag signaure models.. nearly all of which he didn't use at all and they made them after he died just to sell them better.
I've read before comments from Dean Guitars saying that Dime designed them all, but it's hard to believe. There are too many for him to have designed. I admit that annoys me as well, the name whoring. they should have just done an occasional run of limited edition Dean From Hells, like every 5 years or so, make 50. The pickups, I can understand, the millions of guitars, I cannot.
I use dean
:colbert:
My Ibanez is my main guitar though, but my dean plays amazingly
Then again.. I pretty much strictly play blues and rock from the 50s up to the 80s and only past that if it's from an artist who sounds like they're from that era :p

Well, here's my setup. I can't get any noise to come out of the amp though, it just goes SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHCHCHHCHCHCHSHCHHHHCHCHHHHCHCHHCHCHHHHHSHHHHHHHHH. The guy at Guitar Center said it was a nice amp, so maybe it's supposed to sound like that
Is that an orange tiny terror combo
One of your tubes may be microphonic mate, don't ever listen to the idiots at Guitar Center.
I think I want one of the Epiphone Valve amps.. not the one that has only a volume control.. they're a nice price for a decent little in-house head and cab amp.
