The Bugera V22 is really versatile for me, it's a nice balance between being a british and american voiced amp so I can go from really fat texas blues to british rock fairly easily.. it's not built for high-gain or anything but it takes pedals really well and of course you can swap out it's valves to yours hearts content and plenty of people do if they want more gain and such.

I'm probably going to swap out the speaker for a nice Celestion because in any case it's going to sound better than most own-brand speakers in amps.

I've seen some great deals on ebay for strings. I seen 4 packs of Elixirs for £20.. in a shop it'd probably cost close to £50 for 4 packs.

I usually buy for my 5 string bass a set of 4 strings and a single high C string so it's tuned EADGC

a lot of people with 7 string basses get F#BEADGC and I just don't get that

That would only be good for stuff like Periphery and Born of Osiris.

BEADGCF or BEADGbe would be the best tuning for a 7 string bass in my opinion.

I just remembered something I saw at a nearby music-go-round a few years ago. it was an Epiphone Les Paul Studio with a Gibson sticker on the headstock and a little bit of gloss paint to cover the seam selling for $1100

I once tuned my 5 string bass to G#D#G#C#F# and that was already damn low, I see how a low F# would come in handy but my B (sometimes A) is already low enough for me.

I have a Rhoads RR5 body with a Dinky neck (the scale was half an inch off so I had to drill the bridge in closer to the bridge pup). Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge. The neck is the thinnest I've ever played on and took a lot of getting used to.
