Sanding the poly finish off a guitar is a cunt and a half.

Oh man major swimming pool, you should fill that in
Pretty vague thing to say, why would I fill it in? Its made to fit any figuration.
Fucking broke my 11 year old strat by taking the volume knob off and the shaft in the potentiometer just decided to come with it. I can replace it easily.. it was bound to happen the amount of abuse that guitar has got. It's both awesome and sad to see it has went so long without breaking while being used to carelessly.

DO EET!
So my bassist friend is lending me his PRS SE C22 for basically as long as I want.
It slays. Makes me want the full blown American PRS C22 even more though :v:
Hey guys, here are some pics and a little review of my new guitar! (And later clips)
Sorry for the poor pictures, I don't have a great camera just now.

So, I only got it a few hours ago so excuse the short review but I'll be making some clips when I restring it and give it a little setup.
I'd never heard of Sparrow before but after some research the reviews seemed to lean more towards the positive/satisfactory side of things. The guitar when bought new costs $550 when bought new so for me that was about £350. That's £30 short of a Fender Mexi Tele over here. I got it for £185.. a deal is a deal is a deal, I took the chance and turned out with a nice guitar.
The guy selling it didn't really have a clue. I don't think he even played it. Apart from the strings having a bit of natural metal wear (as in, not worn by playing but by rusting cause it sat unused for so long) it even has the factory plastic covering the pickguard.
The guitar first off looks fantastic to me, I like the natural paint job and the hand-painted pinstripes finish it nicely. The pickguard is cut a little awkwardly at the fender style ashtray bridge, I can either re-cut it or replace it.. not sure what I want to do yet but it doesn't bother me hugely. The neck is very Fender-esqe both in shape and feel, it plays just like my friends Mexi Tele. It's a very saturated colour too, I've always wanted a guitar with an overly colourful maple neck and FB so here it is. It plays like a dream (even with the horrible strings on it which I'll be replacing today)
As far as it sounds, I haven't played enough Fender Telecasters to compare, since that'd be the best basis for a comparison.. but from what I can tell it sounds pretty damn good. Bridge is bright but a little thick, which I like.. the Neck and Neck-mid position have plenty of body but still bright. The pots move fairly well, they're kind of stiff which I've noticed on a lot of Telecaster copies (like Squiers) but it's not too bad.
The nut is actually made from Bone too which is a first for me but sadly it looks like a shoddy job has been done on the nut because the low E string is only a couple of millimeters from the 1st fret which worries me, I may have to get it replaced. The logo on the headstock is a kind of cheap looking thick plastic logo stuck on with a little bit of clearcoat over it to keep it stuck. I don't particularly like this but it's not too tacky. Well it is.. but I can live with it.
Overall I'm really satisfied with the guitar, this is my first Telecaster and I don't have any buyers remorse what-so-ever. Would I rather have a Fender? Probably.. but not because this guitar isn't as good.. just because I'm a Fender fanboy. I'd rather have both!
I'll get some clips in a couple of hours.. gotta restring it and set it up and then finish decorating my bedroom! :p

Laz, don't go through all the trouble of sanding a poly finish. That's crazy.
Use a very strong paint stripper/and/or heat gun. It'll get the job done much quicker without all of that crappy paint dust.
Then you can sand the body evenly. :)
Trust me no paint stripper works on a modern guitars poly finish.
It's ok I bought a heat gun earlier today and got most of it off. I'm not smooth sanding the body because it's going to be a relic/aged/worn finish anyway.
Finally restrung my guitar today, god I love the sound of new strings, got 10-60 instead of 10-52, can tune lower (Reached Drop A atm only, could probably go a lil lower)
I bought some new strings today as well. Got some 10s for my new telecaster and 11s for one of my strats.

10s in Drop A :barf:
I've been trying to record this damn song for like two hours now I played it just fine when I wasn't recording. I can't keep tempo to save my life now for some reason

I'm gonna try playing without a click track maybe it will turn out better

I beg to differ

No sanding, and this poly finish was much thicker than the one you're dealing with.
Heat gun took the rest off

Then sander cleaned it up

All without sanding any of the original finish
Trust me ;)

Lol yea, I bought it for around 100 bucks one day after work. There are a few different models of this particular design which include the Korean model and Japanese model. The leading differences between the two are basically hardware, and the neck. The neck on this particular model was nice enough for me to justify modding the shit out of it.

fretwork looks great
Can't go wrong with a 5 piece maple neck with a Bubinga strip and rosewood fretboard.
Oh man major swimming pool, you should fill that in
What is the problem with a swimming pool anyways, does it affect the tone that much?
What is the problem with a swimming pool anyways, does it affect the tone that much?
I think it depends on the wood type. There's a mass/sustain correlation ceteris paribus, but in practice the differences are mostly subjective.

I got one for $120 with a little practice amp a few years ago. it's not bad for such a cheap piece of shit but after a while the intonation gets terrible
modern strats pretty much have the thickest poly coats on them compared to any other guitar.. they add over half a pound of weight to a guitar that's only about 6-7 pounds.
Oi LasGunz, I didn't know you were on UG/in Scotland.
I went back on UG for the first time in ages tonight. It's pretty shit. Music is so much better :3:

Was it the japanese model? The one I rebuilt is the 521 which is the Japanese model. As far as action, I replaced the nut, bridge, and tuners. I adjust the action on all my guits when I change the strings, so I'll be fine.

While I agree, that the poly on modern strats is thick as fuck, the right stripping agent will do the job when given the proper time. Arduous sanding can remove wood and create an uneven surface when parts of the finish remain like spots on bare exposed wood. The poly finish on this Ibanez was about as thick as two us quarters stacked on eachother. I've seen plenty of strat refins that were poly finishes, although disgusting, chemical stripper is what is commonly used to prevent damage to the wood.
naw mine was the korean one
This telecaster sounds fucking awesome. It's made of Ash so it's pretty much the Telecaster tone.
Can't go wrong with that t saddle twang either haha, beautiful tele
10s in Drop A :barf:
Plays perfectly fine Set gauge 10-13-17-36-52-60
or I also have 11-70 sets if required

It also look fucking sweet man
I used to use those in Standard (the 10-60)
same for me I mainly switch a lot between standart half a step down and d standart + their drop tuning, I love em in a whole step down
I now am using my makeshift guitar cable. :smith:
Its a 1/4 adapter <-->1/8 jack to RCA <----->RCA to 1/4
Got a line on selling my eXtreme.
Dunno if I should buy a DIY Strat kit or P-bass kit. I have 3 basses as it is, so I'm leaning towards the Strat kit.
Got my black body today and put everything on it in an hour.
Fits really nice, except for the spring claw, which is too narrow, the input jack area, which needs a little sanding, and the screwholes for the strap buttons need to be lengthened, other than that I can't wait to finish it orange.
The black on black looks too generic to me.
