I'm looking for a guitar. I've been playing bass for about a year and a half and I'm looking to mess around on the other side. Recommendations would be appreciated. I plan on using my bass amp until I can afford a proper guitar one (it's a Roland Micro Cube).
For metal, Schecter make really good low end guitars. Some of the Ibanezes in the $600-$800 range can be pretty good aswell. For other types, Epiphone make some good ones, but make sure you play the actual instrument, their quality can be all over the place.
Just as some additional info, I like metal, I think playing metal would be cool, but I really like post-rock. Stuff like Gifts From Enola, If These Trees Could Talk is the sound I'd like. It can get a little metal-y (Russian Circles, And So I Watch You From Afar) so having that kind of sound option available would be great. E: Additionally, the local shop I've gotten both my basses from is a huge Ibanez retailer. They have other brands but the majority of guitars they sell are Ibanez (at least bass-wise, I'm sure electric guitar-wise too).
schecter starter for metal, ibanez starters are shit
my ibanez was pure gold [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline]
Just as some additional info, I like metal, I think playing metal would be cool, but I really like post-rock.
Sup guys, what are some songs with good tapping parts I don't really know why, but I've been going on a tapping spree today, and so far I've learned the tapping parts from Eruption, One, Paschendale, Voice of the Soul, Children of the Damned, and Painkiller
Get some Steve Hackett in ya, can't learn tapping without learning some of his stuff. He invented it.
Lmao I was going out to paint my guitar and accidentally dropped the primed body down the stairs and chipped a few parts of it. Lucky this is a relic job or that would have been devastating. First coat of red is on, going out to paint the 2nd one shortly! :D [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] This is coat #1 but #2 is drying just now.
Get some Steve Hackett in ya, can't learn tapping without learning some of his stuff. He invented it.
Fo real?
Hopefully the final coat is on the guitar and I'm going to leave it to dry for a few hours now. I also sprayed the top half of my wah pedal red for kicks since I had a little spray paint left.
Time to go play some blues with people I have never met in my life; thanks xenocide, that was a pretty good idea ( Apparently high schoolers put wanted ads on craigslist for bands also )
my ibanez was pure gold [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] i'd say squier. you'll also need a few pedals if you want a sound like that the first two you mentioned
I don't really think squier is the way to go for those sounds, a Schecter, a good Ibanez or even a second-hand PRS would be a lot greater choices. In the topic of Post-Rock, I really like this song:
artzy renditions of my finished paint jobs today! :D
Im trying to get into sweep picking, however im having trouble muting the strings. Right after I playing a note, am I supposed to lift my finger totaly of the string? If I do that, the string still sounds when I take my finger off.
I realize this reply is a day late, but you have to mute the strings with your right hand after you pick them.
everytime i dont use my G&L strat for a while I forget how good it is and always feel like I wont be "re-impressed" by it when I do play it then I pick it up and knock out a few tunes to a backing track and I get goosebumps as to how good the guitar sounds. I really really truly mean it when I say I've never heard a guitar like this before.. no american fender has come close to sounding as rich and full as this guitar imo.
i'd say squier. you'll also need a few pedals if you want a sound like that the first two you mentioned
*coughLasGunzcough* Whew. Had something stuck.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1740292/Percussion.mid wrote this little bit up for the band im in the guitar will be slapped tho so don't bee fooled!
*coughLasGunzcough* Whew. Had something stuck.
v:v:v [editline]22nd April 2011[/editline] I really need to get my self one of those multi-guitar holders. One that holds at least 7.. my room is just cluttered with guitar stuff and my new bed has taken up more space than I expected. I hate buying guitar stuff that doesnt directly affect my tone :p
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1740292/Percussion.mid wrote this little bit up for the band im in the guitar will be slapped tho so don't bee fooled!
that's more than a little bit repetitive.
that's more than a little bit repetitive.
this is just so i can play it over and over again when i'm practicing well actually think of it like this Guitar plays alone once Then Drums Then Guitar Then Drums Then Guitar Drums and Bass for one bar End song
So after looking around and talking to the guy at my local shop I'll probably pick up an Ibanez ART100. It's over the range I'd like but not by much (only $50). I kinda like it, except for the symbol in the middle of the neck (blah). Opinions? E: Should we make a "proper" OP that has this kinda thing ("how to start guitar") answered? :v:
w00t my friend wants me to build him a strat.. he's supplying the body and neck which is a great start and i'm going to begin the paint job tomorrow since mine is finished. He wants a half white half blue paint job :p
I've got a body blank in my closet cut into a V shape that I've been meaning to finish for years. I might start working on it again. I really just need to finish routing all the holes and get all the hardware, the neck and electronics are ready to go. I just can't really afford to get all that hardware I want.
Nice to see another pianoman here! I usually play by ear, but you can go to ultimate-guitar.com and they have Tablature for Guitar Pro 5. If you download guitar pro, it'll display the tabs and the sheet music for you. What genre do you play on piano? I'm more of a classical and jazz guy.
Sorry for the late response. School is hectic. Thanks for the info! And I play whatever. I'll play some popular songs just so I can the attention of people in my band class. I don't think I have a favorite to be honest.
Fo real?
If you can find tapping on a record before 1970, then no, otherwise, he invented it.
What do you guys think of GuitarRig? Im moving from my Crate GFX120h and Behringer 4x12 because I want to downsize as that is too loud for what I need. I was thinking about using GuitarRig with a good set of headphones as my practice Amp. Then later on, buying something alot better when I have the money. My beloved Big Muff has stopped working and it's out of warrant :((((((((((( I've emailed Electro-Harmonix in hopes that they'll be awesome and repair it for me anyway.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Native-Instruments-GUITAR-RIG-Session-FULL-703278-i1759835.gc
If it's all you can afford, it'll probably be fine. I prefer other amp sims over it for most stuff, but it does a lot of things very well and since GR4 has an inbuilt convolution-ish cab sim which helps it stand up against more expensive stuff.
If you can get Amplitube cheaper then I'd go for that over GuitarRig.
Eh, if it's not a price issue Revalver is also a fair consideration, then it's more a thing of trying demos of each and seeing what sounds best for what purposes. The USB Line 6 stuff is an option too.
Yeah.. I mean, I would rather an actual amp. But, I cannot seem to find something that sounds how I want it too (Thats in my price range :P).. I've spoiled myself by playing with the Mesa's and the such at GuitarCenter that now my "little" Crate isnt cutting it. I may go look at the 6505 1x12 though, I've played it and I like how it sounds.
You played the Mesa's? Good luck finding a cheaper amp
I think this is my next pedal.. after I sell my Tubescreamer clone I've been looking for a pedal that has a clean mix so I can get a nice shimmery clean sound mixed with my overdrive. Way Huge solved my problems once again.
