Tried out the EHX ring thing today. Man that thing is cool, I need to practice on my actual playing rather than buying a shit ton of new pedals but its so awesome.
I was like that for a long time but I stopped until about 4 months ago. 4 months ago it was guitar -> amp. Now its guitar -> EVERY PEDAL EVER -> amp because I'm more comfortable dialing in tones and I know exactly what I want to do on guitar, which is funny because I've been playing for 8 years now, before I was kind of at a genre crossroads so to speak. I don't think you should ever limit yourself but I honestly don't listen to many genres in the first place so it only made sense to play what I listen to. [editline]24th April 2011[/editline] And yeah, virtually every EHX pedal is fucking awesome.
The body of my relic job is basically done now. Had a blast beating the guitar up :p [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/3n9Xo.jpg[/img_thumb]
sitting here holding my guitar I can't fathom how anyone would get scratches like that behind the upper horn
sitting here holding my guitar I can't fathom how anyone would get scratches like that behind the upper horn
I pick up on the neck a lot of the time for a different tone (mostly on slow songs); it's starting to look like this I have some scratches from where i pick that have gone through the finish to the wood.
sitting here holding my guitar I can't fathom how anyone would hit the body when they're trying to hit the strings
sitting here holding my guitar I can't fathom how anyone would hit the body when they're trying to hit the strings
Plan B: Bite it
that's still not in the right place lmao
I just started playing and I've some questions about technique 1. Does the palm of the left hand touch the back of the fret board while holding down string? 2. Does the palm of the right hand touch the guitar while playing? If so where do I rest it? 3. Are the fingers on the left hand supposed to be angled or perpendicular to the fret board when holding down string?

It is generally regarded as proper technique to have your thumb touching the back of the neck (and only your thumb), with your left knuckles in line with the strings, and your thumb directly centered underneath your fingers. Start by trying that, you might find it more comfortable to slant your hand a bit or wrap your thumb around the neck. Generally speaking though, the 'proper' technique does allow more unrestricted movement and promotes larger stretches. Here's a photo of a good left hand position. Keep in mind that this is classical technique, and whether you can physically do it or not does depend on what leg you sit the guitar on or how low your strap is etc. If you care about image and want to hang your gutiar a little lower while standing, you will have to adapt your left hand to compensate. Just do what feels natural, you will discover what restricts your playing or not soon enough. 2. You don't have to, but often you may need to use a technique called 'palm muting' which slightly dampens the strings and gives a very nice dynamic effect in a variety of musical styles. You need to find the sweet spot to rest your palm somewhere near where the strings contact the bridge. When you're not palm muting, you definitely have more freedom of movement by not anchoring your palm to the bridge, however if you play metal you may find that your palm will be muting the strings a lot. I personally tend to rest my palm on the bridge and lift if briefly for playing non-muted sections, because I palm mute a lot. 3. Parallel to the frets is 'proper' technique, but it doesn't really matter that much. For example Paul Gilbert seems to slant his fingers pretty extremely and he is a phenomenal player. As long as you don't hurt yourself, and don't restrict what you can play, it's not really that important what you do. But generally speaking most guitarists have got the right idea so try to be relatively conventional :v:
and stand up when you practice
Yeah that too. If you plan on playing live and standing, practice that way. I practiced sitting down for 9 years (half of which was classical guitar), and when it came to play while standing up I really struggled with my left hand, because it was so used to having the guitar in the left leg sitting position.
and again, sitting here holding my guitar I find it rather uncomfortable to keep my fingers parallel to the frets like I normally would, on anything higher than the 12th
I'm now a bit hesitant to get that guitar I was talking about. :ohdear: It's more because of the money that I would have to sink into it to get the kind of sound I want out of it. Listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wbvz00wFnY8 I love the sound of the guitar that drones over the rest of the song. It sounds God damn ethereal to me. I know a guitar is not going to sound like that right out of the box thought and I won't be able to get anything else for a while. It's just discouraging. :smith:
Sounds like a Baritone guitar.
hopefully my next pedal, you guys think it's worth it though? [img_thumb]http://bigcitymusic.com/images/FF_3.jpg[/img_thumb]
i used to own one but sold it as i didnt like it and yes it is noisey as fuck. just make sure you keep the stab knob all the way to the right. also dont use batterys use an ac adapter it makes it sound much better.
Awesum :v:
Or do you prefer another colour for the border?
Or do you prefer another colour for the border?
Doesn't matter, whatever you prefer.
Doesn't matter, whatever you prefer.
Alright, I like the subtle yellow myself. I'll post some on-topic stuff later, I have to record the cover first.
going to make a cover of portal 2's end song using both my guitars. hopefully done during next week somewhere.
And I just did two covers. Morrowind Theme Clock Town I am aware of all my mistakes so no need pointing them out. [editline]Dide[/editline] The guitar is also out of tune.
This is weird.. like.. there are a lot of pedals I want but I don't want a massive pedal board. I'd like 4-5 pedals tops on my board but I'd like to have 10-15 pedals on hand to swap in and out with whatever I feel like. Staple pedals that would never leave my board are overdrive and fuzz however different types and brands could switched in and out.
talking of pedal boards also trivia: can you name each song he plays in this video
I'm making this into an avatar (hopefully) Also my friend and I are going to refinish the body, see how it goes...
I am certain I have seen a user with it before
It's really out of tune, it's hard to evaluate that way, record again :v:
Hell naw, It'll just detune again anyway. It's a bitch to tune with this weather. I'll do it again later, in a day or three.
talking of pedal boards also trivia: can you name each song he plays in this video
No, but I want that bass pedal.
God damn it lasgunz, now I feel like I need to build a parts caster and pedal board. Gonna end up blowing all my cash on more gear but there's nothing wrong with that. Oh yeah and you mentioned a couple pages back you were able to replicate the SRV glassy tone, how'd you do it again?
