does anyone know of a video or something comparing different types of strings like flatwounds or half rounds to regular
Something like these? yes but for guitar rather than bass :v:
What would you guys say the cheapest "professional" guitar is? (professional being - it could be used for recording, a professional guitarist would use it in the studio and/or on stage, and isn't a cheap piece of shit)

Like the Gibson Faded series for example.

Keep in mind the amp/recording equipment really is the most important element. I've seen bands live playing Squiers that have better sound than bands with Fenders, simply because they either have better equipment or know how to use it better.

Not a fan of Gibson's entry level stuff, and I know fuck all about what Fender's various levels of quality are since I don't play them.
Should I get a fretless bass as my first bass? I'm a pretty hard practicer and I already play some guitar
Wouldn't do it if I was you. Fretless is very hard to play, unless you can play by ear.
The tone from a Tele bridge is fantastic.. the strings vibrate much more freely and it just feels richer and sustainy.
Inorite! I once put a tele bridge on a friend's guitar and the sound was way better. I believe it's still on that guitar.
does anyone know of a video or something comparing different types of strings like flatwounds or half rounds to regular
Halfwounds are pretty much rounds, but they sound a little more bassy and are easier on your frets and fingers

Plan on selling it. It's a good amp, but I'm starting to get tonefreak'd ear disease
For recording.. the Epiphone Les Paul Studios are really nice these days.. as are Epiphone ES-335 Dots (however not the studio version of the Dot). Those are cheaper guitars that would work well. If you want a more pricey guitar then the G&L Legacy Tribute is a fantastic workhorse.. it has the Fender tone and more. (They're designed by Leo Fender to be "everything he wanted the Fender Strat to be by the end")

I keep it bare-bones out of monetary limits, it works for me but I'm quite envious of your collection.
Talk about enjoying your instrument.

I'm really good at digging out amazing used deals on stuff and I scour ebay like theres no tomorrow. My gear is probably only verging on £1500, though working out the true value probably around £2000 overall. Best example of my great deal-finding abilities was my near 10 year old mint condition fender strat for £200 WITH a hardcase which I'm actually selling on tonight for a profit. I don't shop top shelf.. I shop for the best I can get in the budgets I set my self. 75% of my gear is going to be used in the bedroom so I don't need to buy the greatest gear ever until I'm properly playing a couple of gigs a month. [editline]3rd May 2011[/editline] Images from 2 things I'm selling on ebay. I love taking pics of gear in natural sunlight.
does anyone know of a video or something comparing different types of strings like flatwounds or half rounds to regular
On bass, flat wounds have a warmer motown type sound (unless played by Steve Harris, but he changes his every day and doesn't break them in), they are more difficult to bend, but work very well on a fretless. Round wounds (regular) are rougher but bend more easily, and they have a bright sound. Half rounds are halfway between the two. I assume it's similar for guitar but I don't know.

£75 + £5 postage/packaging. Edit: Well, that's the starting price on the auction.

Any good tips for starting out using a metronome when playing guitar? I can't even play this properly when only using a metronome without my brain going all "durp fuck hurp". And to think that I was about to ask a friend of mine who is a drummer if he wanted to play with me.

If you want to you could record and see how in time you are afterwards, but you should keep in time automatically if you just let yourself do it, rather than thinking about it.
got a new camera so i finally took a decent picture of my guitars. amp is not in there because i'm ashamed of it
Oh man, found my old hal leonard guitar method book from when I was 8, hard to think I struggled so bad with stuff so simple.
yes but for guitar rather than bass :v:
...Why?
got a new camera so i finally took a decent picture of my guitars. amp is not in there because i'm ashamed of it
It can't be that bad.
its the standard squier pack guitar amp. stratocaster was also out of that pack, but i rebuilt the thing, pretty sweet now. 10 watts of pure horror
Awwww yea, found my miniolian in a store just south of providence.
Heres the stuff I'm selling on ebay.. Fender Strat, Musicman Axis Copy and a Way Huge Swollen Pickle. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/gregporter09/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686
Today was great. I got a full 12 hours of guitar in. I broke one Low E and one high b today. I have no finger tips anymore, but minimal shredding on my fingers. My voice is also hoarse. One song lasted about an hour, I sweated like a pig today, and I sneezed more than 20 times on my guitar. I also took a nap and drooled on it. I fucking love guitar.
Went to band practice for the first time in a little over a month Man it sucked, we forgot a lot of shit, but ended up remembering it and added a singer to the band
I want my zoom back so much so I can record......
Everything I touch turns to jazz
