Would you guys rather a Solid state amp (not modelling), or a tube driven modelling amp?
Well I've gone from a tube driven modelling amp to a solid state modelling amp and can safely say that tube driven modelling (at least at my budget) are pretty average affairs. I bought the amp on a stupid whim because it had lots of buttons and shiny shit on it. Hocked it a year and a bit later for half what i paid for it and got my current amp for £80 out my old shop. To me, modelling has lost all value. I know how to dial in a tone and I'd rather have a pedal board to achieve it. I know others will disagree but opinions is opinions is opinions. The amps in questions were a Line6 Spider Valve and a Roland VGA 5 fyi :eng101:
The body for my parts build got here today. Now all I need is an orbital sander, the paints/primers i need, a neck, machine heads, string trees, neck plate, neck bolt/screws, a claw, 3-5 springs, a bridge, a jack plate, pickups and a '57 strat pickguard, control knobs and a nice custom decal for the headstock. Oh and strings :p
It also doesn't help that the GE 7 is an incredibly harsh pedal
Yeah, I never got on with it. I tried it back when I was looking at EQ pedals and really resented it. Boss pedals are a good platform for modding but most of their pedals aren't great in their original state. My FZ-2 on the other hand :q:
Just give me this plees i'd also take the combo version but i think the stack looks better.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me listen to this tone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc4L_3qHazo&feature=player_detailpage#t=166s i want to hear one of my strats through that. i need this amp :p
He's right, when you stop playing it sounds like somebody is hiding frying some bacon behind your amp sound. I'm not sure if it was the pickups or the amp. Or maybe the amp was old and had been fucked around with.
Noise + modeling = OH GOD WHAT Pedal + anything = noise Ergo pedal + modeling = bacon

this is just a test to try and get a decent recording sound, i have an m-audio fast track pro coming tomorrow which i will use with my shure sm57, so i will post some more clips. just general riffage, wah at the beginning delay at the end. this one is me playing the intro to children of the damned with a little bit of chorus.

Too distortiony for me but at least I know the amp can be pushed that far if I ever need it :3 I'm more of a crank the gain and turn the guitars volume down kinda guy, i'd only turn the volume up for gimmicky solo stuff.
Getting usable distortion out of solid state amps (modeling or not) is near impossible, imo.
Not out of my Crate. Granted it's also a 120W 2x12 but it definitely has usable distortion. I still want a 6505+ combo for the extra bite but it's quite nice for a solid state amp (and incredible for a $100 amp...I love used gear prices)
Crates rule
Crates rule
Don't like their low-wattage amps but the mid and high wattage ones do a pretty good job.
I never dealt with crate heads but I have dealt with their cabs and I've never disliked a single one. Nice cabs for the price.

My guitar just ran out of battery, and we don't have any 9v batteries :smith:
since this thread is more active than the bass thread i'd figure i'd ask here whats a bass thats good for playing pretty much anything? (as i know some basses aren't good when it comes to playing funk, and i like to play funk.) i've got a budget of 200ish. was thinking squier affinity series jazz bass, but i dunno. or maybe an ibanez? i got a friend who's got an ibanez bass, gio i think, and it plays funk and everything else perfectly. ;~) i'm a noob
Any Squier will do, as long as you get the Vintage Modified series.
[img_thumb]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3413/3669739479_a5b5e5190b.jpg[/img_thumb] That is basically what my guitar will look similar to when done... Watcha think?
No Floyd please.
I own a HT5 Combo, so I can see why.
I can confirm this.
No Floyd please.
I'm getting one of these Another guitar repair, though I have to do some soldering, replace a pickguard, fix a tuner, adjust the trussrod... Handing in my guitar to my music shop today, I'm gonna miss it :smith:
If I want to put bass frets on my guitar, will that work? Or are guitar frets completely different than bass frets? Unless they sell jumbo frets at my guitar shop.
people sell frets? [editline]14th March 2011[/editline] i'm so confused right now
Local shops might not sell you fretwire, but you can get most measurements of fretwire from the likes of Stewmac. To my knowledge Dumlop 6000 fretwire is the tallest, but a lot of people think it's a bit too tall Page king I will have one, one day
[img_thumb]http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/4672/0314111726.jpg[/img_thumb] Now I just need to wait for a pickguard... Also a tuner...
dont forget some strings as well :P
If that gold arm is a whammy arm, how does it work?
It rotates the bit where the strings end so the strings move forward or back. I think it goes back anyway
If that gold arm is a whammy arm, how does it work?
The strings wrap under the bar then back around to posts for the ball ends to go through, so pushing the bar downwards tightens the string
Played a music festival between schools tonight, awards are given, gold, silver and bronze. Us motherfuckers got gold even with a massive mistake in one song. I tried to find the aw yeah meme face but I couldn't get it. so imagine that's here
