When will they make a good film and just leave it at that? Sadly $$$$ means they will cash in. Kubrick never chased the dollar and it's sad to see a solid film like Taken get trashed with a sequel. We all know this probably isn't going to be good.
You're the last person I'd have expected to be on the Taken train (it is bad and people only like it because of Liam Neeson and he beats up dudes even though everything about the movie is thoroughly average or bad and also Liam is overrated)
that takes the piss.

Neeson can be good, can be bad but rarely classic. I'm with AK on him, Kinsey was his best performance, despite him sucking the chops off another naked guy in it.

Liam Neeson is a talented actor, and I am a fan of his. And as a fan, I feel satisfaction by supporting him in the box office by going to see him perform -- and he usually does not disappoint by giving a physically and emotionally driven performance far superior to the actors around the block who really are over-rated. I admire him, and his work on Schindler's List alone justifies the reason he is one of my favorite actors of all time. There are plenty of reasons to complain about how this could be dreadful obvious franchise milking at work, but don't start blindly insulting Liam Neeson.
People keep taking Qui-Gon's shit.
He's good, but even in Schindler's list I don't think he's the star of the show, Fiennes for me nailed it and the film was just well made as opposed to Neeson's performance. He's not a bad actor, I just don't think theres many films where I'd say the performance blows me away. Compare him to someone like Fassbender who can play anything and you get a gauge of what we are talking about.

Liam's had some great performances (Schindler's List) as well as some shitty ones (Taken, Taken 2 trailer, the Star Wars', BATTLESHIP) where his brooding monotonous monologues are a cliche you come to expect these days. I'm not "blindly insulting him", I just think he's incredibly overrated and has his share of poor performances, and that 'Liam Neeson' isn't a valid reason to like a movie that's otherwise lacking in pretty much every field. He's completely identical in every action or drama movie. I think it's also worth noting that I'm a pretty far stretch from a hipster

Neeson is a different person, his wife died in an accident and wants to contemplate other thoughts other than pure screen acting.
Lol flame war! I'll referee and when its all over I'll have everyone round so I can wank you all off. You can put it on my tits as long as it gets wiped off with tissue. I forgot about his wife, maybe Liam needs a wank too. Who here feels better after a wank? Me too.
Neeson isn't the kind of person to become truly broken though, he has strength in his heart as proven with Schindler. And don't tell me "that's just acting".
AK'z you just contradicted yourself but yeah, I was pretty disappointed myself over the Lincoln bullshit. And I liked the whole "adventurous French/European" setting of the original film, where for a while it just made you feel like his daughter could be anywhere in the whole world, and just helpless overall due to people's lack of knowledge of these gritty black market human trafficking/sex slave/prositution rings. All of the things to do with the setting and the in-general bad-ass action scenes in taken made for a pretty cool film. Basic story and all, and straight forward when you think about it after seeing it, but cool. With the character flaws, plot holes, and poor writing -- anyone could argue that it was a bad movie, but hell it's rare these days to get even a decent action movie, so I'll take what I can get. Plus, yeah, Liam Neeson, even if it's an illusion.
AK'z you just contradicted yourself but yeah
ok
I thought Liam Neeson was great in Batman Begins
I thought Liam Neeson was great in Batman Begins
He was indeed. But that's a performance by him that I'd categorise as Natural Neeson. I'll trump that with Kinsey any day. :v: [editline]25th June 2012[/editline] he also did a movie called "Husbands and Wives" that's meant to be good. (directed by Woody Allen)
And instead, we have Daniel-Day Lewis playing as Lincoln, which might have been a bad thing for Neeson. But, Lincoln will probably be played better by Lewis.
Yeah once I saw Day Lewis grab the role, I just knew Neeson turned down something career changing.
I like Liam Neeson. Sorry.
Just an FYI: The guy who wrote/directed movies like The Fifth Element and Leon: The Professional is attached to Taken/Taken 2 as well. He's a producer and screenwriter for this movie.

[editline]2nd July 2012[/editline] I disagreed because he never was great.
uh you're wrong leon and the fifth element are good movies sorry he's like spielberg, to a much letter extent. his older movies are fantastic but nowadays he makes rubbish.
uh you're wrong leon and the fifth element are good movies sorry
Yes, I loved those movies. [editline]2nd July 2012[/editline] I still don't think he's great.
he was great, up to 1998 when everything he made thereafter was terrible http://www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/luc_besson/ maybe he got hit in the head
luc besson ain't great.
District b13 was the shit though
I liked The Fifth Element and I liked Taken and I like Liam Neeson. The movie is full of pure badassery. The trailer was like two straight minutes of necks snapping.
Well.. I'm guessing it's not good.
Eh. The first film was panned by critics too until it got to DVD. But this film isn't as bad as some will have you believe. It's not amazing. It's not bad either. The main problem is it has lost the gritty realism where it exposed a dark underbelly of a city. This is just your typical revenge action flick. But a good one. It sort of raises the question about how far a father should go. Both the main protagonist and antagonist seem to think revenge is perfectly fine until the end when [sp]Brian lets the bad beardy man go.[/sp] It's only disappointing because it's supposed to be a sequel to such a great film. [editline]6th October 2012[/editline] I think my town is a bit sick. During Looper the cinema was roaring with laughter at the violent scenes and during this at the end [sp]the bad guy get his head pushed slowly onto a spike[/sp] and people fucking laughed. Gotta admit though, this film doesn't make the action look as bad ass as the first film. It's pretty funny seeing Liam beating people up in this film. So much shaky cam too. [editline]6th October 2012[/editline] In general the direction wasn't nearly as good. But that should've been obvious from the trailers and advertising as it all included Kim in her swim suit. But there is a scene where Brian goes back to the sort of base of the bad guys and it's got absoloutley no tension at all when it should have. The whole film lacks any real sense of threat. You don't feel like anybody is any real danger because the guy's such a bad ass. Which is a huge step down from the first one. But yeah it's still fun. [editline]6th October 2012[/editline] Actually the more I think about it the film has taken Bad-Ass-Liam-Neeson image and almost turned it into self parody. If you didn't know you could almost think it was a satire. Just get some mates and go see it while it's still busy so it feels more like a social event. It's not worth watching on its own.
