cops raided a house in my town yesterday and busted a bunch of people on meth charges
good to see those tax dollars going to good use for once, instead of just driving around town harassing kids
Ah, I was always under the influence that atheism was a lack of faith in everything supernatural and not only deities, for in my mind there is little difference between them.
So you still believe in rebirth, the soul, karma e.t.c, or merely use to the religion to follow its ethical and moral rules? I simply find it hard to believe a logical man like you would lean to supernatural beliefs, which is why I ask.
keep in mind that what most people in the west view as Buddhist teachings are really bottled up and labeled/popularised versions of actual Buddhism
and just to be clear, from my understanding of Buddhism, souls are not a thing because they imply a constant, separate entity that carries on after death. Buddhism is founded on the principle of non-duality (as in, that all 'things' are really one 'process' or 'happening'). The idea of a persistent soul that inhabits the body flies in the face of that

I am well aware of that western Buddhism is simplified, made-prettier and more attractive and heavily altered with new-age influences to fit the needs of the average Joe who wants to become a Buddhist :v:
But in order for rebirth, a vital part of Buddhism, to be possible there needs to be a soul, a part of you that lives on after death to be reborn in a new form. And while this soul may be constantly "happening" or "changing", it is still something that lives on after death and is (by my definition at least) a soul.
For curiosity's sake I decided to Google the matter and consult the almighty Wikipedia. This is what I found:
If the word "soul" simply refers to an incorporeal component in living things that can continue after death, then Buddhism does not deny the existence of the soul.[40] Instead, Buddhism denies the existence of a permanent entity that remains constant behind the changing corporeal and incorporeal components of a living being. Just as the body changes from moment to moment, so thoughts come and go. And there is no permanent, underlying mind that experiences these thoughts, as in Cartesianism; rather, conscious mental states simply arise and perish with no "thinker" behind them.[41] When the body dies, the incorporeal mental processes continue and are reborn in a new body.
I'm quite sure I only have an understanding of some aspects of a few sects of Buddhism, there may be others that are different to this, but
I'd say in the context of what I know, that the word 'soul' there could be understood better as 'experience' or 'consciousness'
It even says in that passage that Buddhism doesn't mesh with the idea of a soul as in Western culture. We think of a soul as having some kind of identity, whereas soul in this context is, imo, meant more as consciousness, life, experience, perception
Yeah I get that, and it's really all semantics of loose concepts based on faith in the end.
But my point is that as it is something that lives on after death and becomes reborn it is by definition supernatural.
This is really tricky, especially when high
I don't know how to explain why I don't think it's not truly supernatural without explaining everything about the non-dual perspective on reality from the ground up, and I'm not prepared to do that haha, I'm not nearly good enough with words
this edit of a few lectures touches on the idea of rebirth (pretty sure it's been posted before). If you're interested in learning about Eastern philosophy I'd definitely recommend Alan Watts, he's brilliant

Took a philosophy class on religion, that shit was the dankness. Several rips of philosophy to the face and I was so high I'm still not sure if there's a god or not
After a year of addiction to Benzodiazepines(Specifically Clonazepam) I went to Detox, that was over 10 months ago and today is the last day I will be taking Diazepam to taper off with. I was abusing 20-30mg of Clonazepam a day and now am on only 5mg of Diazepam a day, equivalent to .25mg of Clonazepam. This is a huge relief.

Sorry, I had to get a couple hours rest before work at 5am, just got back now actually.
Well, I've had other issues with seeing or hearing random shit over the years, and I have always experienced insomnia. Even when I was a little child, though then it was worse because I would still have all my energy, so I would end up keeping the house awake. And I am 21 years old now. I would also have bursts of uncontrollable energy as a child (which I would assume almost all children do), so I would randomly make loud noises and such. But I had to learn to control that because my dad would yell at me to shut the fuck up and call me a retard.
