War is deranged and the exact polar opposite of intellectuality and enlightenment.
The absence of drawing the line between defending oneself and warfare is frighting by the way.
The irony is that war drives intellectual development.
The fact that this person will inevitably end other peoples lives.
Why? Who says? Is it because someone perceives this person as a threat? What if they're not?
And if this person is a threat, then what gives them the right to harm others? Are those others going to harm others? Based on this logic, everyone is out to kill each other. I don't see that happening.
I try to look at the positive as much as possible. In fact, I saw something a few weeks ago that put a big smile on my face. I was stopped at an intersection and there was this frail old lady waiting to cross. Another fellow walked up waiting to. The old lady whispered something to the fellow, and he looked at her, and gave her this very warm smile, and from what it looked like gave an agreeing gesture. The old lady then smiled to. I was a little curious as to what they were up to, when the light changed in their favor.
The gentleman helped escort this elderly lady across the street. At the other side, they went their separate ways.
This act of kindness tells me that there is good in everybody. It just needs to be found and brought out in a non-violent way.

True.
If it wasn't for war....
We would probably still be cavemen or for that fact just be extinct.

Of course, some people always seek to distance themselves from the past.
Some people always seek to near themselves to the past.
This thread again.

maybe in medieval Europe, but it's not the sole cause for development anymore.
True.

Again, the difference between war and defense is not something you should overlook.
Was he an anarchist? I know he was a Yugoslav nationalist.
Well his goal was to destroy the Austro-Hungarian Empire totally, which then bosnia was a part of.
Japan is a pacifist country yet has a defensive force. Pacifism is not doing nothing.
How anyone can be pro war is just :psypop:
but war is not a basic human instinct. It's desire for power, resources, or land (or in more recent history, nationalism) that drives armed conflict. There is no innate human desire to slaughter other humans, only desire for things that seems to necessitate the slaughter.
Humans are what humans are. Animals. We only chose are fights to show who may be more intelligent or who may be stronger.
But usually in the end, someones going to get hurt or worse.
True.

no not really. It was inadequacy of hunting-gathering methods that led to the creation of agriculture, which was the start of civilization, as agriculture necessitated that humans live sedentary or non-nomadic lives which led to the development of cities.
Wars are not required. Conflicts are.
How anyone can be pro war is just :psypop:
I wonder what the casualty numbers for all the people that have ever died in an armed conflict since 1200 AD in western and central Europe are.
gawd what a huge number it must be
The "greater good" is a false dichotomy.
You're half right, there is no set good or evil or else there would be no war. However, cultures amongst the people in a country share what's good and evil very often. The good being to go to war with murderous leaders and attempts to end mass genocide.
Humans are what humans are. Animals. We only chose are fights to show who may be more intelligent or who may be stronger.

this isn't really a coherent argument.
Having an absolute stance on whether war is just or not is ridiculous. The circumstances dictate whether or not it is justified.
Agreed.

Though it's certainly helpful for economic development.

Japan is forced into pacifism by the US government. If we hadn't drafted that treaty, they'd probably have conquered China, and much of Asia, by now.
The Art of War covers all of this, great book. Reading is fun.

no they offered a conditional surrender (with conditions that they had anyway even after the US forced them into an unconditional surrender) several months before we dropped the bomb

Based on logic, everyone is not out to kill eachother, as everyone out to kill eachother is not good survival instinct. I don't want to turn this into a religious debate, but a man believes a higher power wants people who believe other things dead, he is giving himself the right to kill those people and has taken on a mindset that is unchangeable and ignorant. It is, from my point of view, the right thing to do to intervene and prevent the murderous side from being successful. It may sound like an unlikely situation but its happened a lot.

Sir. Us humans evolved from Monkeys... We attempt to consider ourselves different because we're not so primitive as other species. The truth is... Not matter how much chrome or technology we evolve with the general fact remains the same. We are monkeys.

No we didn't. We're an entirely different thing. I wont devulge into the past 1.6 million years of our development. Please keep this thread on tracks.
I am anti-war. I believe a war should be fought only to protect ourselves. I don't agree with going into another country to give it Democracy or Freedom because it is against a basic principle of freedom to use your power to force a Government out of power because you don't like them.
