Which can pretty much derail a thread completely. I've noticed it on occassion and I see his point. As for the puns, I can see why they were taken away, but there are some instances (such as the article that brought most people here to discuss it) that are very humorous to begin with and puns should be perfectly valid. On the other hand, puns can destroy a very derious discussion very quickly. I think that limiting puns beyond page 1 or 2 would be reasonable as it allows people to get the humour in if the topic deserves it but to continue with a serious discussion if it's got enough steam to keep going.

if it's obvious that you're making a pun, you're not funny and you deserve what's coming to you. can we just leave it at that

Its not a matter of 'seriousness' but the fact they're rehashed shitposts that aren't funny at all and kill discussion. Limiting them to a specific page is also stupid due to the above reasons and the fact that it'll only cause more confusion - "i saw people post puns so why was I banned for posting them [on page 2]" or a user unknowingly doing so because he was the last post of the page.

ok maybe if we post useful contribution plus a pun at the end we get a lighter ban than a single 'pun-only' shitpost.

See the imageshack picture I posted earlier in the thread and the post it references, there was a (now blocked) imgur link which I was able to see. I had a rating poll in it and a few other people were able to see it. Not sure what's happening there...
