Here is the full unabridged histroy of gold member getter-ship Originally GM was a deal that got you a superior avatar / ability to delete your posts / your own forum / all beta versions of the new garry's mods (this was a big deal so most people bought it for this reason). I forget how much it was but this was around 2006 Then I think Garry set up a prank (making GM $1,000), then Monkey_123 bought it thinking it was just a joke, but paypal actually deducted $1,000 from him and that's why GM wasn't buyable for a very long time. The GMF doesn't try to be a "great forum", it's just a place to chill out for golds. It's basically a lounge that you "earn" by being gold, whether that's by buying it or (previously) getting the 2k 2years thing.

I like to think of the GMF as the sole place to get my shitposts out before I start posting in normal threads. Now if only that was what I actually did.
