yes, it can, but i doubt it will happen for a number of reasons - garry is unlikely to do so because it requires time he could better spend elsewhere, and if some people turned off titles then other people are less likely to want to buy them (and support the forum) if they're not likely to be seen, among others.

if you really don't want to see titles, use Adblock+ or equivalent with a setting to not display any elements of class usertitle

For some reason, after the servers were being DDOSed, it refuses to give me the option to adblock one specific avatar, only all of them.

Copy the image location of the avatar
Press ctrl+shift+v
Pase the link into the search field
Right click it, then press "Block this item"

Not exactly the same, but the [url=http://facepunch.com/fp_read.php]Read threads[/url] feature is invaluable in this regard. It shows a list of all the threads you've read within the last month or so and how many replies they've had since you've last read them. If you've replied to a thread, you've obviously read it, so you should be able to use this in the meantime to keep track of your posts and any replies.
