I thought that was the old bluesize.
We used to have the same size.
So if golds now have the old bluesize avatars then what does the boostar money go to? obviously not site upkeep.
um wow your dumb
50 percent goes to mods, 50 percent goes right back into hosting
Blues and gold shared the same avatar width and height size (80 x 80 px) before that one guy made garry do something with the avatars.

Ha, I remember that. The influx of blues buying gold so they could get avatars again was even more hilarious.
Here's garry's post

It should have been a punishment only for Slithersoul. That's like if one person fucked up in an office, the manager fires everyone.

but then garry has to make a new user group
copy over all the permissions from blues
not worth it

Everyone had been bitching at garry for pages over it. It's not like it was all only slithersoul. He was just the first to keep at it.

When were these posts by Slithersoul? I was banned early 2011 and missed stuff later on.
EDIT: I mean could I be linked to them?

[editline]4th July 2012[/editline]
welp
I still get 502 errors sometimes, does this happen to anyone else?
And what exactly were cached avatars
cloudflare would cache avatars for a year
aka you change your avatar, you wouldn't see it until a. a year had passed, or b. you cleared your cache
[editline]4th July 2012[/editline]
which actually resulted in a funny forum exploit

No. 50 % goes to mods, 33 % is tax and only 17 % goes to hosting.

Ah, so it was looking at the SEO-optimized URL of the thread, which ended with a file extension, and treating the thread as an image and caching it. Awesome.
This idea may have been thought of before, but, worth a post if anything.
What do you think about having threads cost money or posts?
For example, for $0.10/£0.05 (10 cents, 5 pence) you may (uncertain on what price would actually fit) purchase a 'thread credit' which would require payment via boostar, and for every 25 (again, uncertain on what value this should be) posts you make, a 'thread credit' is added to your account to use, you may create 1 thread per 1 'thread credit' and 'thread credit's' are moderator controlled for when such a need may be necessary. Being banned could also have an affect on 'thread credit's' earned. A reward system could also be put in place for those who do not create threads and have amassed a good amount of thread credits, such as boostar items (Gold member, title/name changes).
Pros include. increased revenue for facepunch (even if by a small amount), less shit-threads, possibly a more mature community atmosphere due to post content being being attributed towards currency ('thread credits'), regular members and non-shitposters rewarded. Less work for moderators.
Cons include, genuinely pleasant new members having to post/spend money to create a thread.
I've probably overlooked quite a bit here, you may not even be able to transfer such a little amount of money either due to paypal fees and whatnot, unsure on that.
Don't give Garry any ideas...

Bad idea.
If anything, pay some extra money for a 100x100 avatar (or somewhat bigger), I know people would pay for that.

All that does is add revenue, whole point of my idea is to have multiple bonuses.
To each their own though.

I can see the point, but you're removing a standard feature of a forum.
I would agree , but everyone from the start should start with x credits, like 3 thread credits.
Most forums have a system in place where you can only make x number of threads a day, that could work.
I don't know about making it a paid for feature, though. No matter how cheap.

Or just add a $10 registration fee to make your account an investment.
Makes people a bit more protective of their account and may treat it more like it's something they bought (because it is)

It sounds like you want to make Facepunch into SomethingAwful.

It would just add one more thing to the pile of stuff we've got from SA
