Can any older facepunch member explain to me what "this thread" was? Was it just to shorten thread names or refer to the actual thread name, because it seems like a lot of older members all got banned in "this thread".

You must be joking, "this thread" is not a specific thread, but rather any thread that doesn't exist anymore in some way or another.

If someone asks a mod to be banned for x duration, the mod gets to pick any duration from x to permanent, basically (I think?)

We're talking about requests on private messages, not threads.

so if I asked to be banned in a private request for say two days because I have no control over visiting facepunch, you could ban me for a week or a month and not have to explain it?
