Why is is that clicking "view conversation" with someone who has turned off visitor messages gives you the "you don't have the privileges to be here" message?

My heart literally skips a beat every time I see that.

Because the messages are still there, and will appear if they enable VMs again.
If you can still view some of the messages, one reason to disable them is gone.

If they have visitor messages enabled for only mods and contacts then if you're not a mod or on their contact list, you don't have permission to be there.

I know it was stupid to post in there, but I came here to ask a question asking "Is this thread allowed?" I don't want to waste a moderators time with a useless report so I ask users if they recall any posts by moderators regarding posting porn.

I was just thinking about when Rules are updated. Anyways, does anyone else think it would be a good idea to have a little siren next to an updated rule thread until somebody clicks it? Currently the updated thread just boldens up a bit. With a siren people would be able to see it quickly and think "hmm, i better check the rules." Is this a good idea or no.
