except it's a browser exploit, not a forum one.
uhh, no
except it's a browser exploit, not a forum one.
when you upload a picture vbulletin, and pretty much every site, looks at the header to get the avatar dimensions
By using an exploit with images to bypass the avatar size restrictions and give themselves whatever sized avatar they wanted (mostly fucking massive).
-snip, I'm wrong then, sorry!-
uhh, no
uhh, yes? they don't render on some browsers.
uhh, yes? they don't render on some browsers.
you are bypassing the dimension limit regardless
uhh, yes? they don't render on some browsers.
It's a browser exploit in the same way that apng is a browser exploit
Lemme guess it's something like this: [IMG_thumb]http://puu.sh/VaDr[/IMG_thumb] Chrome does it as well, but I only use it see how what is coded on websites, not for exploiting something like that. Facepunch forums is one site I shouldn't tamper with, don't think I will ever either.
no, it has to do with the GIF98a hex values [editline]14th August 2012[/editline] i was trying to sound smart so if it's not exactly that don't fucking kill me
It's a browser exploit in the same way that apng is a browser exploit
apng isn't a browser exploit either. it's a modified png [editline]1[/editline] here are a bunch of words about apng
no, it has to do with the GIF98a hex values [editline]14th August 2012[/editline] i was trying to sound smart so if it's not exactly that don't fucking kill me
Guess not then. No I won't kill you, I'm not that type of Combine.
snip I guess
gif98a is the filetype signature. [editline]1[/editline] if this isn't ok to explain I'll snip it
CLOSE ENOUGH and yeah i'd snip that even though it's quite obvious that the exploit will lead to a ban
apng isn't a browser exploit either. it's a modified png [editline]1[/editline] here are a bunch of words about apng
except it's the same idea as big gifs, since they both bypass avatar restrictions. except no one has been banned for apng for some reason. i'd find a flashing lol epilepsy av to be more obnoxious than an oversized one.
except it's the same idea as big gifs, since they both bypass avatar restrictions. except no one has been banned for apng for some reason. i'd find a flashing lol epilepsy av to be more obnoxious than an oversized one.
if you really find them obnoxious then adblock them you're not forced to look at them if you don't want to
Here, to clear this up. A GIF has header data in it, including the dimensions. The first six bytes state that it's a GIF, and what version of GIF it is. The next 4 bytes are data containing the image height and width. If you edit those bytes, bam, you have a gif with what appears to be different dimensions. When it's uploaded to the server, PHP and other libraries simply read this header data as it's much faster than parsing the actual pixel data of the image, and it renders fine on the client because it renders what the image actually contains. (That's the dumbest way I could describe it, honestly) of course don't do it though, you'll get perma banned!
fuck
except it's the same idea as big gifs, since they both bypass avatar restrictions. except no one has been banned for apng for some reason. i'd find a flashing lol epilepsy av to be more obnoxious than an oversized one.
nobody has been banned for apng afaik because it's not a forum exploit. also from what I've read, the capability to animate pngs is built into the png standard [editline]1[/editline] this isn't a question about the forum and this issue has already been dealt with so I'm going to stop
if you really find them obnoxious then adblock them you're not forced to look at them if you don't want to
you're not forced to look at big avatars either so i don't see what the fuss is about.
you're not forced to look at big avatars either so i don't see what the fuss is about.
it specifically says avatar size is limited to 80 x 80 (or 60 x 60) does it say that apng's are not allowed no leave it at that
apng isn't a browser exploit either. it's a modified png [editline]1[/editline] here are a bunch of words about apng
Kind of my point
FUCK MERGE
nobody has been banned for apng afaik because it's not a forum exploit. also from what I've read, the capability to animate pngs is built into the png standard
i'm guessing what you've read doesn't include the png spec. [editline]14th August 2012[/editline]
it specifically says avatar size is limited to 80 x 80 (or 60 x 60) does it say that apng's are not allowed no
animated avatars are not allowed for blue members. apng allows your avatar to be animated.
Is it to view a single post just like this?
http://facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=1160387&postcount=9136 Nope.
here's something to help you out Does this bypass, interfere, and/or get you to somewhere you shouldn't be yes Are you normally allowed to do this No if the answers answer yours, have fun with your perma if you try it out.
animated avatars are not allowed for blue members.
where does it say this
where does it say this
when you try to upload an animated gif, unless that's changed since i haven't checked in years.
when you try to upload an animated gif, unless that's changed since i haven't checked in years.
Animated GIFs are not Animated PNGs
I kinda feel bad for those permabanned folk.
postal: how are you banning people for abusing this exploit? do you ban people as you see them or is there a log of uploaded avatars? also, is this ban retroactive? there are quite a few people who ignored the mods warnings but tried the exploit anyway
Animated GIFs are not Animated PNGs
i knew someone was going to post this. if an admin disables uploading of animated gifs, they probably don't want animated material of any kind.
