• Real music VS Techno?

I love all kinds of rock and techno
Yeah, but that holds true with any kind of music.
You would be surprised at how terrible it sounds when beats aren't matched. A minor adjustment in the pitch can make or break a track being mixed in. DJs use monitoring headphones for a reason other than to protect their ears from the loud music.
Would this style be considered techno?
No, that sounds like Eurobeat..or something. It's definitely not techno.
No, that sounds like Eurobeat.
It is, I was just wondering if Eurobeat would be considered techno.
Yeah, but that holds true with any kind of music.
Honestly, when do people beat match rock records? Or, for that matter, how much effort is put into transitions in any kind of live music? Look me in the face and tell me that is not skill. That is just a small part of what DJs can do. [editline]14th October 2010[/editline]
It is, I was just wondering if Eurobeat would be considered techno.
Techno is a very wishy-washy term. The original Techno is now called Detroit Techno. Techno can quality for anything from House to Trance to Hardcore to Chillout.
It is, I was just wondering if Eurobeat would be considered techno.
Eurobeat is an obscure subgenre of House, but that's just my opinion. We can banter back and forth about how to categorize music.
Eurobeat is an obscure subgenre of House, but that's just my opinion. We can banter back and forth about how to categorize music.
It's not house, it's Eurodance. One of the oldest genres of EDM there ever was, next to Italo-disco.
It's not house, it's Eurodance. One of the oldest genres of EDM there ever was, next to Italo-disco.
Subgenre of House. Not house but a spawn of it. I'm still going with Eurobeat, it has the same sound as: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BJ0xBCwkg3E Eurodance is more like: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QOaqgrtoMGo Like I said before, we can banter back and forth about this.
This is like saying Real Music VS Rap on a youtube video of lil wayne or something, a fight will occur

I'm just saying to me guitar is harder.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=QOaqgrtoMGo Like I said before, we can banter back and forth about this.
Nostalgic. Oh the 90s...
I like how everyone labels electronic music as Techno when techno is only a single subgenre of it. If you can't tell the difference between this and music like this you're pretty dumb.
Neither of those is techno. (BASSHUNTER :gonk:) DJs like Shiloh and Joel Armstrong set the modern classification of techno in the new millennium. This is how real, modern techno sounds: Oh Christ, and Deadmau5. Can't forget that Canadian bastard. His older stuff is true techno to the core. Burufunk's original was good, but deadmau5 did an ace job on this one.
Nostalgic. Oh the 90s...
I know right, I thought the same thing.
I honestly don't feel like it's fair to compare the two; for every good DJ I could name an equally good guitarist. I'm just saying to me guitar is harder.
you can't say one instrument is "easier" than another, because standards vary depending on the instrument.
Jumpstyle, now that is something.
I know. It's just that most people seem to put an envelope around electronic music in general and pigeonhole it as being only the shit that's popular (eg Basshunter and Darude) and then call it "Techno" when it isn't at all. Also, I agree, Basshunter is pretty terrible. It was just an example (I only really tried with the DnB tracks since they're some of my favorite songs.)
The history of DnB is actually pretty interesting. Those guys were pretty ingenious. But yeah, I see what you mean. Darude was okay-ish, but basshunter... I just want to strangle that Swedish sellout. Everything he made was mastered on fucking fruity-loops, he uses the same damn VCO settings for practically every song, and he thinks he's such hot shit because he got signed with TMOS in London. Same shit happened to Deadmau5 though. I just hate the turn that Eurodance took... I thought Cascada was bad until basshunter came along.
I had a discussion with my friend the other day about Techno and rock music. He's a Techno lover and i enjoy Jimmy Hendrix. He was all like "Lol Techno is really hard to make because it takes years to master the art of being a DJ". Oh dear god! I said he should wake up and realise that playing bass, drums and guitars is actually harder to learn than a freakin DJ. So what do you guys think of this? :P
one of the worst music related posts i have seen in this forum
Am I doing it right?
Yes, you are!
The quality of art is not determined by how difficult it is to create. Good rock music could be like a realistic painting, and techno could be more like an abstract work. They are both equally valid as art.
What makes music great isn't skill.
Not techno but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJQowMCdQDQ
you can't say one instrument is "easier" than another
Yeah you can. :colbert:
Threads like these really piss me off. Not because of t he arguments, but because the fucking terms thrown out are bullshit. And to many people are interpreted differently. 'Techno' to many people (myself not included) is simply a genre of music that is created using somewhat unconditional means with varied amounts of machines and etcetera. And the reason many people do not believe that Techno is not real music is because anything outside of their preferred genres is considered shitty. It is due to this fact that many people are simply not interested in finding new music because they have no clue it's there. As many people have already said, Music is made to convey emotional responses. And with so many people voicing their opinions everywhere, 'REAL' responses to music are often only made when finding songs/artists you have not heard before. To me, finding a new artist is quite exhilarating because it not only expands my interior catalog of music in my subconscious it allows me to voice my own opinions on it without fear of magazines or TV shows telling me it's good or not. Also, on the subject of Justin Bieber. I think that he is a fine example of how fast the examples of 'hits' can change. Several months before JB's debut people were freaking out over just as similar bands, And after JB dies down People will resume to latch on to the newest thing. Because people now a days have become brainless as to what their views on just about everything are.
Yeah you can. :colbert:
did you even read the second half of what i said? different standards of skill are set for any instrument.
did you even read the second half of what i said? different standards of skill are set for any instrument.
You're contradicting yourself. You can say one is easier because there are different standards. Say, a kazoo has a lower standard of 'skill' than a french horn.
Set-up Daft Punk uses during one of their shows. That definitely looks easier to figure out than a drum set.
I did work as a DJ last year, and I can tell you right now that many of those knobs and sliders won't even get touched during a show. Of course many of them will, but it's a little misleading to suggest that every knob, switch and slider will be interacted with during the course of the show. I should note that having to set those controls before a show can still be a bitch. It should also be noted that they also work as their own light jockeys, and control their own visuals. Learning how to use that equipment properly and effectively is just as difficult as learning many instruments. Learning to play saxophone was easier than learning to DJ in my experience.
