I had a discussion with my friend the other day about Techno and rock music. He's a Techno lover and i enjoy Jimmy Hendrix. He was all like "Lol Techno is really hard to make because it takes years to master the art of being a DJ". Oh dear god! I said he should wake up and realise that playing bass, drums and guitars is actually harder to learn than a freakin DJ. So what do you guys think of this? :P
this post reeks of ASS
You're contradicting yourself. You can say one is easier because there are different standards. Say, a kazoo has a lower standard of 'skill' than a french horn.
the standards are set based on how difficult certain levels of music are for that particular instrument. level 3 (solo) music on piano would be just as easy as level 3 music on violin or bass. no instrument is genuinely "easy" because there's more to music than just hitting the right notes.
I always found grades in instruments of any kind fucking redundant. [editline]14th October 2010[/editline] And also shit like GCSE's in music, in a band, who cares what grades you got in music, as long as you can fucking play on a stage.
By the way most profesional Dance music producers actually can play an instrument. [editline]14th October 2010[/editline] also relevent for those with no knowelege of EDM at all http://techno.org/electronic-music-guide/ [editline]14th October 2010[/editline] it's a tad outdated but it still applys
All music is valid no matter how it is produced. Technical skill at performing does not guarantee good music. A lot of the best music in gaming was composed using midi programs.
Techno is, for me, too non-harmonic, and/or too repetitive. The overwhelming majority, anyway. But it's still music.
I don't like Techno, House, or any of the stuff cause it's all just beats... Sometimes they're good in games, but that's the only time I can really enjoy them. This is just my personal opinion, and I would never call it 'fake music' or anything. I just prefer bands over beats.
aphex twin is better than a lot of "normal" artists
I'll just leave this here..
I used to be just like the OP, turning my nose up at "fakey music". What a fool I was, denying myself so many good experiences. Now I look past the genre and enjoy the music for what it is, a good tune is a good tune. Doesn't matter how hard it was to make.
I'm a faggot, Techno isn't real music.
We're not from the fucking 90s, it's called Electronica now because of the many different ways you can go with it. As for Techno not being "Real Music", you're a fucking tool because you think your music is superior to others'.
Only music I don't like is generic factory-produced RnB, and Opera. I'll listen to anything else, hardstyle to ambient to folk.
Dubstep, Nuff said. Hopefully it will never go mainstream, thats what makes it awesome at the moment  This tune is epic.
Why the fuck do some people prefer dubstep to drum and bass? In every single dubstep track it's just WOWOWOWOW. The remixes are even worse, they pretty much rip the intro then replace the drop with more WOWOWOWOWOW. For example:

Techno all sounds the same to me...
Because people have different taste and opinions, cant you just accept that?
People don't like other people's tastes and opinions, can't you just accept that?
This thread is full of ignorance and blatant stupidity. And that's not just OP's fault.
Also, on the subject of Justin Bieber. I think that he is a fine example of how fast the examples of 'hits' can change. Several months before JB's debut people were freaking out over just as similar bands, And after JB dies down People will resume to latch on to the newest thing. Because people now a days have become brainless as to what their views on just about everything are.
I wouldn't say that they're brainless. It's just that mainstream artist's lyrics are easy to comprehend, it's aimed at kids, and it's popular. The reason why some of them buy popular music is so that they want to fit in, or they're social.
Only music I don't like is generic factory-produced RnB, and Opera. I'll listen to anything else, hardstyle to ambient to folk.
What's wrong with opera!? Have you ever looked at an opera score, or listened to an opera from beginning to end? Do you really just hate opera, or are you trying to say you hate "classical vocal music", because there's more than just opera, there's cantata, requiem mass, oratorio, chorale. Trying to use "opera" as some sort of umbrella term just shows ignorance, clearly you've not even listened to much opera, or classical music at all. Yeah... real awful, right? (Yes, I know it's technically a cantata, my point stands)
[img_thumb]http://filesmelt.com/dl/Fight_Techno_real.bmp[/img_thumb] Looks like we have a winner! :v: Now seriously, Its everybodys own opinion, so stop the hating
i did this with some asshole i know in IRL who said almost the exact same thing to me. since you think making a techno song takes no talent and "real music" is harder, i have an assignment. make me a techno song. it has to be 2 minutes minimum. must have a bassline, melody for synth, some sort of background ambiance, and a drop. rules :d: you cannot use pre-made use loops :d: everything about your song must be original. No re-creating other songs :d: you cannot use garage band. if you can do this within a week, you have proven to me that making a techno song is easy and talentless.
My degree was in Music and Audio Production. Yet having done that I still have a great sense of humility when it comes to ALL types of music, and sound in general. Every sound can have a useful purpose and every song can have a thankful audience. This is why the kind of musical elitism in the OP really annoys me. Even cheap trashy pop music is designed with a purpose: to sell as much as possible and make money. And guess what, for the most part it achieves that aim! So even if you don't like it, it is still classed as successful. Just because you may have a tendency to prefer certain types of music over others, it does not mean those other types of music are trash. All it means is YOU ARE NOT THEIR TARGET MARKET.
rules :d: you cannot use loops or anything pre-made :d: everything about your song must be original.
I don't think you understand what techno is.
I don't think you understand what techno is.
i mean premade loops. ill fix that.
I mostly listen to folk and melodic death metal, but I really started to like music like this:
Techno is bad, hardstyle is my style!
Technically Electronica (techno) is your so called real music. It uses actually drum sounds that mix in with synths and samples. Perfect example is Tocadisco: So in this discussion, Electronica = Real music.
Electronica is a meaningless term coined by music "journalists" looking to increase subscriptions with buzzwords. If you can't be more specific, EDM (electronic dance music) makes more sense.
