• Facepunch Collaborative Electronic Ambient Album

As discussed in the Facepunch Collaborative V2 thread, Gregah has decided to let others carry on the collaborative albums. I suggested genre specific albums, and people seemed to be happy with the idea. So, as a result of that, this is the thread for the Electronic Ambient collaborative album. So what is Electronic Ambient music? Well, there's a few artists I can immediately think of that fit right into this genre, both of them legends in their own right. First off would be Brian Eno, who is considered the father of ALL ambient music because he was doing his shit back in the 70s before most of us were even around. Right under Brian Eno in the founding fathers of ambient music would be Aphex Twin. Now, before Aphex Twin was putting his face on little girls and making demons climb out of TVs to scream at old women, he released his first album called Selected Ambient Works 85-92, with many other albums following the styling of it. Of course, there's a lot more fantastic artists out there putting out great music like this. Though it is not my usual style, I've been getting into ambient a lot recently. Here's a few tracks I came up with (I don't plan on putting these on the album): A few rules of thumb for the album: - Normalize your song at -3db. You can do this by loading your file into Audacity, highlighting the entire track, clicking on Effect at the top and selecting Normalize in the drop-down menu. It's as simple as that. - Try not to make your track overly long. I would say 10 minutes at the longest, but be careful not to get carried away with a repetitive and boring track. Going longer than 6 minutes is a ballsy move because it's your job to keep the listener interested. - Unlike other collaborative albums, this one will be a little more strict on entries. Your song must sound good, and whether or not you submit it is your call. If you're unsure, post it in the thread and ask others what they think. Have pride in what we're doing here. If the rest of the album is good, uphold that. - Your song must be original, no remixes. Collaborations are fine. I'm unsure at this point what the limit of songs should be on the album, but for now, I would like to keep the entries per artist limited to 2 at the most. If more people come on board, I'll limit it to 1 track per artist. I'm also going to keep a 1 month deadline on this unless we fill up quick on music, so as of now, All tracks are due by April 30th. I'm also thinking that as of now, 16 sounds like a good number of tracks for this album. If it catches on, we could always make more albums in the future. 2/16 Songs Submitted Paricipants: Silent-Bob Patjo_sweden JackHowers Stizzles thisispain dezek (1 Track Sent) killa101 akayz (1 Track Sent) UberWarri0r If you would like to sign up for the album, just post in the thread and I'll add your name to the list. Also, if anyone would like to come up with some nice album art, post in the thread.
I could try this if I find the time, I suppose. I'm already working on two other tracks for collab albums, and making two albums of my own, so I'm not sure.
I have some ambient minimalistic dnb to post if you're willing to accept it.
Put it up, I'd like to hear it.
It's far from done, I've just started making it today. [editline]10th March 2011[/editline] I'm probably gonna tone it down a bit
I'll write this post as I listen. So far the intro is fantastic. Very ambient and mood setting. The drums just picked up. I'm liking this a lot. The pads in the back are very atmospheric and subtle. The percussion is interesting and nice to listen to. It just hit a break. I'm loving these sounds in the breaks, simply fantastic. It's about to pick up a second time now. Same as before, nice percussion and FX. I think if you tone down the harder percussion and maybe the bass (not the sub bass) a bit, it will fit perfectly in this album. Very nice track.
Already started work on my contribution. [editline]10th March 2011[/editline] richard d james is mai waifu~ [editline]10th March 2011[/editline] Also, here's an example of something that is totally awesome and also happens to be ambient and it's by Aphex Twin and it's awesome. hey i've kinda been making some ambient-y song (ignore the part in 1:06-1:30) is this the kind of stuff that would fit this whole project?

Reverb would me nice on the melody. Add pads to give it atmosphere, and make sure you adjust the mix to the entire track well so everything sits evenly, giving it a smooth and dreamy feel. When mastering, make sure you give the EQ a bit of high end for a nice crisp sound.
Started working on this yesterday. It's kinda ambient but is it ambient enough for this album?

Very interesting soundscape. That vocal sample, guitar, or whatever that is, could be toned down a little bit. Loving the crackling effect. Great atmosphere. What is that in the background? It sounds like people talking... I like it, makes me zone out a little bit and sink into the music. That vinyl-like crackling is back, I really love it. Perfect for the track. I think this track would be perfect for the album, it's exactly the type of sound I imagine for what we're doing here.
i'll look though my cassettes and see what i can find or maybe i'll do something BRAND new my friend does have this new synth toy

You're right about the vocal samples, they're a bit loud so I'll tone them down. Good to hear, just going to do some finishing up before I submit it. :)
i'll look though my cassettes and see what i can find or maybe i'll do something BRAND new my friend does have this new synth toy
It would be a lot more preferable if you did a new track for this.
It would be a lot more preferable if you did a new track for this.
then i'll just steal my friend's DX7 for the weekend i missed the feel of membrane keys
Started working on this yesterday. It's kinda ambient but is it ambient enough for this album?
Burial, is that you? Definitely a Burial vibe. I really like this.
I'm working on something right now, it sounds scary. :v:
Burial, is that you? Definitely a Burial vibe. I really like this.
Haha no, but I tried to give the track that warm feeling you find in Burials music.
I think I'm done with it, unless someone has anything to say about it. If any of you can think of a better name, I'd appreciate it. I just thought of some random words that seemed to kind of fit the feel of the song. :v:
Wow, that's... neat to say the least. Call it "The Mothership" [editline]11th March 2011[/editline] Actually, I'd give it some sort of fade in and fade out, as it abruptly begins and abruptly ends.
Wow, that's... neat to say the least. Call it "The Mothership"
Great idea! :buddy: I guess it's finished then, you can just download it right off the soundcloud there and put it in the album when you're ready to release.
-snip- nevermind I used vocals from another artist. :sigh:
Here's a track which I think i'd class as Electronic/Ambient that I created awhile ago: http://soundcloud.com/afromike/intelligence Let me know if its worth of the album :)
Don't submit something you made a while ago, create something new and original for this album.
That's not in the rules, put it there for future reference so people know.
- Your song must be original, no remixes. Collaborations are fine.
I'm probably not going to submit this, but I'll post it anyways since I might do something similar for my submission. Did it in about an hour or so out of boredom.
The percussion leave a lot to be desired as far as substance goes.. if that makes any sense. The beats are good, the samples are just too flat, they don't pop out like they should. The entire song is catchy, at least I think, but it needs mastered, and it still feels like somethings missing. If you did it in an hour, put a few more in. It's a good start.
I love Facepunch's techno. Can't wait for a release!
