• Does Facepunch have too much quality control?
I don't like smileys like that as much as the next guy, but you guys are extremely butthurt over it. Can you at least try not to be such an angry person?
It represents immaturity and is a definitive sign of a 12 year-old who won't learn better for years to come. It's also really fucking annoying when they use it in every other sentence, and even more so when they're trying (And usually failing) at being funny.
I think the amount of quality control here is just right.
Dark days of instaban, where an entire mapping thread about a bunker became an account graveyard as like 30 seperate accounts were banned for 7 days for saying "to the bunker"
I got banned for talking about a portal map that had "acid pools closed in by glass" or something. I like the current non-automatic system.
That would be great for people with a browser that doesn't support spellcheck. (IE and Opera, I think. Not so sure about the latter)
Opera has a built-in spellchecker. On topic: No, I don't think Facepunch is too strict. Sometimes you can argue about ban lengths, but usually the Moderators are justified and listen to reason. I think it's a noble goal to encourage thinking before posting and thinking if your post contributes to the thread, even if it fails short in its execution. The Escapist has a similar system (yes, yes, I know Facepunch can't stand it, but here's a relevant parallel) and while both systems can't filter out all the shit, they're making thread reading more worthwhile in many cases when compared to other boards. If anything, I think the safety of anonymity has led to a lot of "internet regulars" forgetting about quality control at all.

Facepunch has gotten more lax in the past few years. You should have been here when they had a giant YOU'RE GOING TO GET BANNED banner whenever you posted a new thread.
I think we need more quality control. Post quality should be super-high here.
Not enough. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] Banwords should come back, but with a lot of changes. For example, I think "xD" and ":L" should be banwords, but not "nigger" and "justfuckingoogleit". Filtering out the use of the dumber emotes would make Facepunch look more respectable.
I think we need more quality control. Post quality should be super-high here.
There's a whole section dedicated to low quality posts and threads for a reason, and that's to keep the rest of the forum on a higher standard. Besides you gotta have the quality on a realistic level, or it'll just scare every newcomers away instead of just the shitposters. I think the control is just right here. Maybe with a little bit more leniency on image macros. I've seen bans from macros that were actually funny and not overused.
I would LOVE To see 06 fp. We need smartness and instaban now
Lots of dumb permabans.
It represents immaturity and is a definitive sign of a 12 year-old who won't learn better for years to come.
Wow you're pretty damn clairvoyant [sp]I am 13 and I stopped using smileys like that when I was 12. Way to be a stereotyping asshole.[/sp]
It's also really fucking annoying when they use it in every other sentence, and even more so when they're trying (And usually failing) at being funny.
First part of this is an exageration and I have not seen it used like that at all. Second part of this I would agree on assuming he is talking about people who try to be dicks about another person's sense of humor by saying stuff like "lol xd randumb11!" sarcastically.
The moderation is good for most parts, though sometime it feels misplaced. [sp] And I'm glad they removed this retarded smartness system long ago [/sp]

I lurked for 2-3 months before I started posting.
Too much? Needs more. Not getting banned isn't hard, just don't act like an idiot.
Too much? Needs more. Not getting banned isn't hard, just don't act like an idiot.
Agreed.
YOU'RE GOING TO GET BANNED
Oh goodness. I remember my parents questioning me why I was going to get banned and I keep having to explain to them that the huge banner is just there to grab people's attention and that I'm not really going to get banned. I had to explain that to whoever walked by my screen while I was trying to start a new topic. Admittedly, it did freak me out the first time I tried to create a topic. I guess giant red text does that to people. Yeah, I did like the smartness system, but it seemed to be a little bit too picky sometimes. It didn't need to autoban people for losing too many smartness points. Suppose if someone wanted to post a chatlog, but didn't know how to format it to where it won't mess up your points to an extreme negative? Not to mention, there was people that ignored the smartness system completely, so it may have defeated the purpose of smartness.
In a forum that is filled with little kids? Absolutely not. You allow stupid shit like image macros and you'd be seeing them every other post, and believe it or not, not everyone finds them hilarious. Quality control is a must, here. It really isn't that hard to avoid getting banned here, either.
If smartness came back, it would have to be completely different. It would need to take away from obvious spelling mistakes like 'dont' or 'youre' but ignore code and whatnot.
I would LOVE To see 06 fp. We need smartness and instaban now
The AUTOBAN and smartness system was godawful, you don't want it back. If you forgot to put in the
tags while posting code or a quote, it would automatically permaban (or 2 weeks, forgot) you. If you said one of the ban words, it'd automatically ban you even if the words were properly used.

The problem with instabans before is you wouldnt get unbanned for mistakes. The mods would shrug it off because it was a short ban. The RC sucked back in the day.
I remember the good old days. Stick it in her ... "User was autobanned for 7 days" I miss it.
It's really hard to be banned here now, I see people just being arrogant dickheads + typing in all lower case and nothing ever happens.
It's really hard to be banned here now, I see people just being arrogant dickheads + typing in all lower case and nothing ever happens.
I think that's the downside of moderator discretion.
I don't know what you're talking about, I like the quality control and moderation on Facepunch
Image Macro Bans! (it's like, McNab's opinion man) Any reaction image with text should be bannable, like the following: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-m1e3GsWdmn4/TfjWwtj4FnI/AAAAAAAAAos/wIS5FQ8fLlk/s640/lol-perro.jpg http://static.tumblr.com/qubbdk2/EHilqve5b/24050112nfp.jpeg http://speakfresh.com/wp-content/uploads/origin_Dazas-WTF-bildes-6.jpg http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/photosizer/upload/dude-wtf.jpeg Now (most) reaction images without text... that's a different story. The following I feel should be okay to use without a fear of a ban as they aren't substituting a written post, but instead, convey the poster's emotion. http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-assets/photos/images/newsfeed/000/170/115/tumblr_litvwegaLF1qfdpzz.jpg?1315057618 http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-assets/photos/images/newsfeed/000/143/902/130979365717920110725-22047-1llns0r.jpg?1311574906 http://img-cache.cdn.gaiaonline.com/5af7f170abb36e9c2f540e0ad6bee69e/http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee302/stricer555/REaction%20Faces/Starebert.jpg http://knowyourmeme.com/i/000/065/857/original/1281378265462.png?1281923553 Notice how most of these are those minimalistic ms paint computer reaction pictures, these are best to use because they arent loud and obnoxious like a normal picture would be. (http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpdn5yIPUu1qdx22j.png http://media.thestar.topscms.com/images/86/2e/d4a4b98344b6bf80ef330fab0790.jpeg) Now if we had a bunch of those then it would be chaos. But a few of these ms paint ones in a thread wouldn't be bad, assuming the post called for one. Like 3-4 per thread is what i see.
I don't really mind the occasional reaction image, especially when they're used as part of a joke, but that occasional thread where nearly everyone posts nothing but a large string of reaction images is retarded. This isn't an imageboard. [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] Other than that, I quite enjoy the quality control here.

Everyone reacts different to everything, but that doesn't change the fact that emotes and images shouldn't be overused or a replacement for a short post or a rating. This is a forum after all, not a image board.
