Image Macro Bans!
I was about to post practically the same thing. Autobans for image macros would really save the mods some work.
Everyone reacts different to everything, but that doesn't change the fact that emotes and images shouldn't be overused or a replacement for a short post or a rating.
Is your definition of over used is "used more than once" than I guess you're using the word right, but if you're going for the real definition, then it's not over used. Just because multiple people use it doesn't mean it's over used.Besides, if you're getting extremely worked up over trivial bullshit like that then you need to go see a therapist about your ridiculous anger issues.
You guys are so butthurt that it's no longer funny. It's not like people will spam image macros if they were allowed.

Kinda hard to autoban for image macros, since there's no simple way of distinguish a image macro from a useful picture (a image of a pie-chart used in a politics thread showing the amount of mandates for each party, for example)
Making it a report option instead makes more sense ("useless post / image macro" for example), though it'll require more effort from the moderators and administrators

You're starting to think the forum should follow a set of rules that would only benefit you and a few others, instead of the forum as a whole.
Remember, this is a big community, not a small forum with only a few close friends who's sharing your point-of-view and humor.
I am 13 and I stopped using smileys like that when I was 12. Way to be a stereotyping asshole.
Rookie mistake. Never disclose your age if you're that young.
I was about to post practically the same thing. Autobans for image macros would really save the mods some work.
That wouldn't really be possible, unless you want to ban anyone whenever they post an image in a thread; even if it's relevant.
I remember the days when I was almost afraid to post due to being banned for almost anything
Also, where did the ratings go? were they removed or something?
I remember the good old days.
Stick it in her ...
"User was autobanned for 7 days"
I miss it.
hehe, that made me snigger
I remember the days when I was almost afraid to post due to being banned for almost anything

I feel like the current moderation is adequete. Often, if you provide a reasonable reason, moderators will reduce your ban length. I'm not exactly the greatest poster and I don't have very many bans, it's not that hard. Some individual bans may be uncalled for (I've seen a couple) but as a whole, the moderation here is pretty good.
(P.S: If I joined when I was 14 and I've had 2 bans in almost 2,000 posts, it's clearly not that hard).
I made as basic question in the appropriate section and got banned.
If anything we need more quality control. Sure it was stricter in 07, but the overall post quality was much better. Less useless, stupid threads. Morons and trolls were banned without too much mod effort, allowing them to focus on making sure the content of posts was good and there were no fights.
It's still okay thanks to the community keeping a fair standard, and the mods still do a great job. I just feel we need to go back to how it was in around 08/early 09. 07 would probably be a bit too strict.
Image macro rules are too tight like when someone talked about The Bloody Board And someone posted "forever alone" and got banned. The image was very fitting. If its fitting then don't ban. I understand trollface and that cat.
hehe, that made me snigger
user has been autobanned for saying nigger
It should have more.
That wouldn't really be possible, unless you want to ban anyone whenever they post an image in a thread; even if it's relevant.
People used to get autobanned for using certain phrases. I don't see why you couldn't compile a list of urls for the most common image macros. Then again, it might be more work that it's worth.
The forum is called Facepunch for a reason, you´ll get facepunched with a hammer pretty quickly.
I personally like it here because of this, I mean look what happens if there is not something like that. (/b/)
Also, you just have to use common sense, I mean, it is not a "fun" board.
Well, I never really had many problems with FP.
2 or 3 temp bans I think for small stuff.
1 for posting in a ban me (we don't get much of those anymore, but IMO, kind of a bad reason to ban)
another for talking about warez (justified I guess)
and maybe another, which I can't remember, which means it probably was nothing.
You CAN post image macros, as long as you don't exagerate on the content and offend, and actually do a constructive post instead of just slamming the picture in it and post quick reply.
There are lots of ban reasons, most are justified, few others are very questionable, but most of those disappeared in some... incidents.
I feel like we have the correct amount of control as long as no one goes on a moderator banning spree. What I do hate is people giving others hard time just because of one extra/less letter or a ' less. Thats just nitpicking, and considering some people don't have english as their first language, a rather annoying and unfriendly thing to do, unless its a friendly correction instead of "hey seems like your too big of a dumb ass to write X properly".
Then again, its also good that it is this way. There used to be this MMO forum where I would go to. I quit going there because the grammar errors there are soo many that even you start going dumb. Sometimes, their phrases even have whole words missing, its not just misspelling. Same goes for the game, where people just write less then 5 words and the words they write end up half eaten.
So yea, in short, this is good enough.
Oh, and weird thing, either I am at the wrong parts of the forum, or back in 05/06 (what some people assume to be the golden years) there were alot more jackasses and perma bans/temp bans.
I remember the good ol' days of facepunch before we turned into a bedazzled version.
[editline]25th September 2011[/editline]
also I feel like this section we be filled with rage.

Technically, Insta-ban is still around it's more focused on VPN's and spam bots now
Facepunch has gotten more lax in the past few years.
You should have been here when they had a giant YOU'RE GOING TO GET BANNED banner whenever you posted a new thread.
Dude, remember the old "YOU'VE BEEN BANNED" message?
those were good times!

I think we need more control - just like the old times. Smartness , Insta-ban and just a general crackdown on shitposts and shit threads is necessary.

I think bans (AKA Fresh breaths from Facepunch) would do well
lot of people might go outside for once and stop shit posting on facepunch
Looking back on it I think I can say that smartness was pretty retarded. Good moderation is what makes FP what it is, the threat of being banned for posting terrible content (like image macros) keeps the posts hovering around a decent standard. If you loosen the moderation with regards to making contentless piece of shit threads/posts then you get... something quite like Fast Threads actually.

Heh, so that's what the refugee camp section was for. Good thing I never bothered posting there when I was banned for the first time and decided to do other things during the ban.
I have been banned before for calling someone out on posting something stupid.
But I would have to say that the forum as is great, no need to increase or decrease any standards.
I can understand why no one would like this place to turn into bloody 4chan.

Doesn't matter how good the rest of the post is or how good a macro it is.
smartness and instaban are awful ideas
I think the current level of quality control is adequate. Standards are kept relatively high, and people rarely get banned for indisputably silly reasons. Usually when someone gets banned now there's a pretty good reason for it.

I've never seen the refugee camp myself. I guess that banner isn't there anymore. Has anything else changed since then?
The posting expectations have dropped since 05. Nowadays, you might get someone pointing out the occasional "lolololol XD", but back in the day if you made spelling errors you would lose smartness, possibly get banned for losing too much smartness, or get angry PMs from other facepunchers. I don't know how the RC used to be, but nowadays it's either "please ban me plz im sorry", "FUCKIN UNBAN MY GARRY U R A FAGGOT PRICK!!1!" or just straight up telling people that they're faggots and to kill themselves.

Best way to present a ban ever.
I actually quite miss the quality control that old facepunch had, it was strangely hilarious.
