Best way to present a ban ever. I actually quite miss the quality control that old facepunch had, it was strangely hilarious.
it made me wonder why anyone would add such a "Stupid system" now i just thank it [editline]25th September 2011[/editline]
everytime i saw that shit i'd just say "oh boy here we go again" as yet ANOTHER moderator account would be hijacked and start banning everyone. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline] The only exception to image macros is what's stated in the rules. Doesn't matter how good the rest of the post is or how good a macro it is.
mods getting hijacked, fun :v:
I think we need more control - just like the old times. Smartness , Insta-ban and just a general crackdown on shitposts and shit threads is necessary.
Smartness should be brought back in my opinion. It really helped with the shitposting.
Part of me wishes for the old days, it was really playing survival. Smartness and banwords were only small inconveniences, being banned by a mod was more of a hassle. Posting on the edge was fun, there was so much fire to play with. I still can't pin exactly on why garry did a u-turn and did the whole "live and let live" other than FP going professional and all. You should all appreciate not being in FP '05, but you should all have known what it was like. Everything now is more dynamic on quality control, each section has it's own. It's actually getting complicated now with a whole range of users coming in and at their rate, I'm surprised the mod team isn't overwhelmed but I have to admit we're a bit short reaching at times, we can't cover 100% of the forum at 100% of the time. Having users come to us lessens this.
The posting expectations have dropped since 05. Nowadays, you might get someone pointing out the occasional "lolololol XD", but back in the day if you made spelling errors you would lose smartness, possibly get banned for losing too much smartness, or get angry PMs from other facepunchers. I don't know how the RC used to be, but nowadays it's either "please ban me plz im sorry", "FUCKIN UNBAN MY GARRY U R A FAGGOT PRICK!!1!" or just straight up telling people that they're faggots and to kill themselves.
When I got banned I kinda just accepted it. It was only temporary (12 hours methinks) and I figured out to post smarter if I have to say something. I really don't understand people who earn their ban yet cry to the high hells (yes thats intentional) when they get banned.

I really don't understand people who earn their ban yet cry to the high hells (yes thats intentional) when they get banned.
Especially now just look at my history. It's (mostly) shit I can't really have stopped, but I wasn't being insane or stupid either. Funny thing is, these bans are nothing back compared to o6 I was Mr. thread shitter back in o6, now though I'm pretty damn clean IMHO. 7 bans, 1 on mistake, in 3,662 posts. Many people fill the page I've seen with less posts than that.
Too little control in my opinion, you get alot of bad posters, as well as bad threads. The standards should be raised a tad.
Bring smartness back. It actually helped me with my English.
Not enough. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] Banwords should come back, but with a lot of changes. For example, I think "xD" and ":L" should be banwords, but not "nigger" and "justfuckingoogleit". Filtering out the use of the dumber emotes would make Facepunch look more respectable.
Having emotes as banwords could cause hell on Facepunch. Particularly the reversed ones such as "D:" would make it so difficult to have a sentence or title with some kind of example or subtitle tied into it, such as "Back to karkand: does it need to be a paid expansion?". It's just hard to police, such as how several people in the thread have mentioned that they have had banwords unintentionally tied into their posts, leading to bans. They're just more pain than they're worth.
I don't know, I've only had one serious band, that looking back now I disagree with how harsh it was. But that was at the time with the hezzy problems and the mass de-modding, so the person who banned me had a lot on his plate, and I was being a bit thoughtless at the time.
I think that the strict moderation filters out a lot of the idiots to just the Gmod and Fast Threads sections. Facepunch is really the only community that I've been a part of that didn't have a terrible amount of idiots present. I think that the strict moderation actually allows the intellectuals to flourish, rather than stifling people with informed opinions through idiotic and pointless shit posts.
One thing I don't agree with is new users getting banned for posting in the wrong section or doing other stuff that they don't know is not allowed on these forums. At least just give them a warning or something.
I was never around for Smartness, but I would've loved to see it in effect, especially in the various Garry's Mod subforums (Mostly Models/Skins), since more often than not, all the people who have the world's worst grammar skills usually end up there.
Facepunch is a tad more mature and strict than other forums. I also enjoy not having annoying inside-jokes/tasteless humour around Facepunch. If there is, it's quickly dealt with. With the exception of some sub-forums

Your lack of quality control gives you the following: OIFY, Fast Threads
Especially since there's already a selection of emoticons to use. Though the culling of useless emoticons were a little too harsh, since the selection is now severely limited.
God I miss those. The remaining are useless besides funny, downs, smile. I miss psyduck, smith, unsmith, etc.

I personally believe that this iteration of Facepunch is fundamentally the best thing you could have. Not ultra-serious but not 4chan levels of retardatation. I think as long as the mods and admins do as good a job as now, Facepunch will still be worlds better than many forums. Last thing I'm going to say on this: Stay on this course, for the good of everyone.
I always kinda saw it as initiation. "Congratulations, you've been banned.
Your lack of quality control gives you the following: OIFY, Fast Threads
except keeping that IS quality control the shit-posters stay there, while everyone else stays everywhere else [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
I personally believe that this iteration of Facepunch is fundamentally the best thing you could have. I miss the good old days where this place really WAS strict.
I wish we could talk about piracy.
I wish we could talk about piracy.
no
I rather miss the smartness system.
I'm pretty happy with the current level of moderation, it keeps the blatantly stupid shit off the forums.
I wish we could talk about piracy.
We all know people would just brag about how much shit they've downloaded then. Besides part of the reason it's not allowed is because this forum is hosted on a server in the US. And there's VERY STRICT laws regarding piracy discussion in the US, so if it was allowed, then this website could be shut down by the feds for encouraging piracy.
You weren't here when we had Insta-Ban words and the smartness system. Being banned for being stupid was possible back then without a mod even needing to read your post :v:
I actually kind of liked the smartness points and insta-bans. I remember when it was taken away there were threads where people thanked Garry for how much better their spelling was because of his system. I liked not seeing tons of lololols as posts and things like that. I'm not even sure what kind of quality control the OP is posting about now... Being banned for racism?
I wouldn't say too much quality control is a problem, but the lack of any consistent moderation is a problem, especially when mods base ban time on their own opinions too much.
The only thing we need back is smartness.
smartness and instaban words were stupid
somtimes I need genuine help on the subject...and why is a england based website being hosted in the U.S.?
