i don't know what "*ahem* up-to-par with other guys" means, but you're not gonna do well the first time;
the best advice i can give you is to be as comfortable as possible and not worry about giving an "exciting performance" because you most likely arent, just use it as an opportunity to get comfortable with sexual activity
your first time is almost guaranteed to be awful, over time you'll get better at doing things and feel less awkward about taking the lead. don't fret too much about it

It may sound cheesy but stay relaxed, if you like this girl you don't need to worry about it. Don't put any pressure on yourself or her, it will most likely not be like in some generic love stories. The first few times were a bit awkward and we were getting used to it, after a while it gets natural and becomes "fluid".
The only thing I struggled for a longer while is to put the condom on, it's always a bit of a breaker.

The first time I showered with an SO we were both really nervous but didnt want to be the first to admit it so we went along with it until we were both stood naked together under the shower and i having suggested it she looked at me and was like soooo.. mature and clean. We just didn't work together as a couple. one of those, when you don't really know whats wrong but something clearly is... Honestly I think she just eventually found out I wasn't really her type personality wise. Shit just sucks, on both sides.
