I completely respect her choice to pick someone else, but you have to understand that I feel cheated because she agreed to go on a date, while she clearly knew at the time of agreeing that she'd actually go for someone else (but that is something I had to find out afterwards). You all interpret my story in the wrong way (or I just explained it badly)
Yeah, same as mine with the whole "wait for summer" thing. She agreed to go on another date with me when summer started and the entire time she had decided on the other guy.
I definitely remember feeling somewhat "cheated" but mostly frustrated, and it took me a few months to really put it all behind me and move on. Another important thing I learned from that experience is that you really shouldn't expect a whole lot from other people, especially about dating and relationships. If you set the bar really high for everyone, you'll only be disappointed when most people fall short. If you set the bar low, you'll be able to appreciate it more when some people go above and beyond your expectations.
I know that sounds really cynical (and it probably is), but it's definitely helped me keep my feet on the ground for the other almost-relationships I've been in and I feel like I better appreciate the things my close friends do.
You'll definitely get over that feeling of being cheated, how you deal with it after that is up to you. From what I read, your situation was similar to mine, so I decided to tell you how mine ended up about 2 years later. It's unlikely that things will go exactly the same way for you, but it might help you put things into perspective.
