I use a metronome to get a flow going.
That's probably what we'll have to do. I've realised since we have no drummer we usually get out of beat (mainly because of me :v:).
I use a metronome to get a flow going.
The problem for me is that I really don't know what notes to play and such...
KillerTele is just not an educated musician like myself :downs:
It's true, I do not know one bit of theory and nothing.
Music theory helps with that. Ear training does as well. When you improvise enough you find yourself naturally leading into the chord tones. The pentatonic scale is where you should start out, and learn a bunch of licks and play them over a jam track. Don't be afraid to use licks, the most common analogy is that licks are like words and it is how you use them and the phrasing that matters. If you use a word that George Orwell used does that mean you're copying from him? No, not at all, and it's certainly not a big deal to use other people's licks, though come up with your own and try to be unique. A friend of mine who plays guitar is a big Jimmy Page fan and his solos consist of only Jimmy Page licks, and it's very unoriginal and meh sounding because it feels less like words and more like a bunch of quotes. I'm going overboard with this analogy. 80% of the bass and guitar solo work I do is improvised as in I make it up as I play it. If I'm having trouble I do come up with a general idea of what I'm going to play, but usually I just loop the part and improvise it over and over again until I get something I really like.
Since I'm an IRL friend of MrJazzy, and we both being blues cats, we could probably make a song for this album, we just gotta come up with a text... But that's no problem, we just need something to make a song about. Also I gotta learn how to solo on a bass guitar, I've tried and I've tried but it never works really good, I never get a flow.
Less is more, I'm going to use a song I have made (well it's actually my band, since I only handle guitar duties while I have one laying down bass and one laying down drums :v:) for this purpose. Did I say I love whoring out my music? 1:30, there the bass guitar is doing a small melodic variation from the main root notes the guitar plays that is really simple, but I think it is a beatiful way of doing some sort of solo thing without really overdoing it. Bass just has this mellow sort of sound that I think makes doing just small stuff like the one mentioned stick out more and work better than having some fast soloing, the fact that guitar just is on the higher register and doesn't get muddy while playing fast too has probably a lot to do with it but my main point stands, you shouldn't worry about not making yngwie jealous, just make something that sounds groovy and you'll be good. I think that is what makes John Entwistle (and even Jaco pastorius to some extent) such great bassists, they can blow you away with quick stuff, but they just throw down some really cool and groovy bassline that grabs your attention so damn well with just a few notes.
So I just tried to read some theory, and I just can't do it. It doesn't work for me, I can't read it, something blocks it for me, I get bored to tears in just half a minute... I know I didn't give it any time, but that's the problem. I can't.

I think the main problem is that you're probably not seeing the use for musical theory or just not seeing any effects on it right away, personally I've been reading up on it a lot and I usually don't notice that much, but later on when I think about it I realize how much of it is just subconcious, you just notice things that you didn't before without thinking about it. Give it a few more tries, it will help you. =)

I really don't see what use I have of being able to read notes, do people even use them anymore?
Oh they do, and they will for as long as a human plays music. Think of music theory as a language for musicians, it's all good and well to just say "ok uh play this one <show chord> and then this one <show chord> and uh I don't know check this out", instead they can just say what chords to play and you'll be able to understand. It also helps writing music a lot, since you'll know how to progress from one chord to another without really giving it any thought, speeding up the process by a lot. Oh, and you'll always know how you can make it flow natural even without having an instrument nearby. I'm going to make a comparison now. Imagine you're sitting down, counting. You can obviously do that with rigorious trial-and-error, but it becomes so much easier when you learn formulas to help you crack the problems. As mentioned, you can take the long and (usually) boring path of sitting there trying to figure out how to solve the problem, or you can rely on your knowledge on formulas to help solve the math problem.
Alright, now I feel like it's needed, gonna learn this shit now. Thanks man! :D But first, some food, I'm starving. [editline]3rd August 2011[/editline] Man this shit is hard

mastered about as well as someone with a tape deck
What do you use exactly? I wouldn't mind getting a bit of experience in the analog world. Mainly because I want to get away from my computer sometimes.
tascam tape studio thing and some cheap 100 dollar condenser mics then compression is a mix of my amplifier and my guitar pedal with some EQ and reverb from an old mixer.
Here's something I'm working on currently.
I like it. A lot. But you should eq some of the noise out, and put a noise gate on there. There are some really cool harmonies going here though
...Well? Got a hold of him yet?
...Well? Got a hold of him yet?
Nope. It says he was online a day ago, but I wasn't online at the same time. Before that he was offline since the last time I posted. I really hope I can get in contact with him soon.
We need someone who is on the forums too much to run this.
We need someone who is on the forums too much to run this.
I'm fine with the idea of someone else running this, but we're still going to have to get the Bandcamp info from Harmonizer.

Perhaps he doesn't check his mail, like me.
(some bad english might me included in this post :v:)
shit i'm overworked which one do you like more FP? sexy kraut rock punk: sexy miles davis-inspired funk:
Great! I love the old school sound. Drums might be a little messy and out of rhythm, but anyways nice! Could i join this album? :) I havent really been long here in facepunch, but i have studied theory for 7 years, and i've played guitar for 10 years (jazzguitar for 4-5 years or something like that :v:). I would be cool to be part of this! If so, should i make something like acoustic Jazz/blues, or an electronic electrohouse/dnb/dubstep song? Or should i just play around and make a cheesy pop-kinda song? :v:
acoustic jazz nghgh
Yes I'd love to see some jazzguitar.
Allright, it shall be acoustic jazz then. Gonna start composing it right when i get back home.
