I've never been in that situation, or in any situation even remotely similar (though I do have some experience with involuntary psychiatric commitment, but that's an entirely different story, haha), so I cannot say for certain how I would react, or if I would be able able to forgive my parents for making that decision. I respect Morte immensely for not holding a grudge against his mother. It's easy for us to sit here and say we would have done things differently, had we been in her shoes, but you can never know for sure until you actually are.

Also I think and would also like to hope that this is a small group of people rather than the large front idea, whilst I don't think religion is a good thing; I don't think all Mormons will share the opinions of the people running these 'schools'.

Torture is not allowed by any government, nor is it allowed by UN sanctions. Being gay is what go her TO the program, but the program abuses all kids fairly equally.

I read the personal testimony and the way she describes the way they were treated, it was more like a punishment than torture for pain's sake. Many of the staff took the punishment out of line, but there obviously isn't any standard punishment or the staff sometimes didn't adhere to it. They didn't resort to physical force unless the girls' expressed some sort of homosexual behavior or refused to follow commands. That's why it isn't constituted as torture, but rather as physical punishment. That is why I say it is technically legal and not a form of child abuse. Understand that I feel horrible about the situation, but I feel I have to see the situation from both sides in order to comprehend what all is happening at this facilities. You can't take one side without understanding the other and expect to get a completely positive outcome. Hell, even if these facilities are shutdown or the staff members are put on death row, many of the teens there won't get proper therapy to help undo the damage that has already been done to them.

I didn't read her testimony, I was at the same school, before she was, and a worse one before that. I have lived in fear while witnessing torture. I don't need to 'see the situation from both sides.' I want to submit these personal accounts to the writers of Law & Order. I know they are quite liberal, and love using the shows to get a message out. I feel like that would be a great medium to reach a large number of people.
