Try making a mechanical army that don't use legs. Maybe they hover or use wheels or tank tracks to move.
Or perhaps an army made out of scrap parts. They can take apart enemies and put their parts onto themselves?

A race of organisms that ride on a sort of seat mounted on tank tracks, and on the seat is just a pile of biomass that morphs to suit the situation.
Maybe little tiny midgets that ride around inside large mechanical suits.
Or robots controlled by tiny mice.
