Looooved this series. The new one fucking sucked.
Behold the true badassness that is General Grievous
Goddamn it. I wish they just kept the original voice actor and made him creepy like in the show, instead of the huge pussy he was in the film. Also, the music in that scene is so damn awesome.
This is why I love the clone troopers

Also, that spinning torso shit = as fucking cool as it was, it couldn't happen. At least he had the spinning arms in the movie.
Just rewatched a few scenes from that cartoon. From what I've read on Wookkiepedia, is that Dirge didn't die until he was thrown into the sun. Oh wait, he DIDN'T DIE, HE'S JUST SITTING THERE, WAITING. In any way, the cartoon was awesome, although it's art reminds me too much of Flash.
I started watching the new show, and I thought that it was pretty entertaining, if a bit too "kid-friendly". Now I'm rewatching this show and realizing just how much better it is.
This is why I love the clone troopers
Why couldn't the Imperial stormtroopers be nearly as badass as the Republic's clones?
Also, the music in that scene is so damn awesome.
Indeed.
Kid friendly? That guy got his head crushed right infront of the damn screen.
Why couldn't the Imperial stormtroopers be nearly as badass as the Republic's clones?
They're half the reason the prequels are so boring (Ignoring the shittiness of the films themselves, the actual setting), the other half being droids. It's clones fighting robots. Clones. And Robots. Such an emotional and difficult war. There's absolutely no sympathy for the bad guys, which is fair enough I suppose since that's pretty common in stuff like this, but how can you give any significant shit about scores of cloned soldiers? At least with the Empire the Rebels were fighting for a cause they all believed in for a reason against an oppressive regime and they were all individuals. And the Imperial troops were actual people who had joined the military for their own reasons and they were individuals with personalities and feelings. Clones. And Robots. The best part of Clone Troopers is getting phased out and replaced by Stormtroopers. I'm sure this cartoon was pretty cool but eugh, prequels.
Stormtroopers are clones too. Just more variations of clone. Why do you think most of them sound the same?
They used the same extras?
By the time the Galactic Civil War began in earnest, Jango Fett's clones were heavily supplemented by clones based on a variety of templates around 9 BBY, followed shortly after by enlisted Humans. Thus, the Fett clones were ironically reduced to a minority status after years of virtually filling the stormtrooper ranks in its entirety.
Not entirely.
These were awesome, don't think i've actually seen all of them though.
They used the same extras? Not entirely.
The Fett clones, yes. The other templates, no.
Son of a bitch. Volume 1 ends on an awesome cliffhanger, but I never bought volume 2.
They used the same extras? Not entirely.
I'm assuming you've never read the books by Karen Traviss.
Nope, I haven't. I do know they were originally just clones and then more varieties of clones but my point is by the time A New Hope comes around clones are just a small part of the Stormtroopers. Officers, vehicle crew and from what I've read pilots and the non-stormtrooper regular infantry (Which if my memory serves me correctly don't even appear in the films or video games apart from maybe Galaxies, heck what do they appear in? The comics?) are most definitely not clones. Not that anybody said they were, but it does make them individuals. And by 'They use the same extras?' I was referring to Stormtroopers in the original trilogy sounding the same/similar because they used the same actors/actors cast in the same place so with similar accents or something like that. My understanding is that serial numbers given to stormtroopers are a byproduct of their pure clone past and later became something with a similar purpose to serial numbers in real life armies. Also because when you've got personnel for countless systems not to mention entire battle stations the size of small moons you'd lose track of how many of your soldiers were called Frank Smith or something more suitably space-y.
I'm assuming you've never read the books by Karen Traviss.
Ugh, her books were terrible.
Traviss actually left LFL when Lucas changed things for the new series, which in hindsight is pretty stupid, considering he's writing over his OWN stuff, much less anybody elses's... how she expected her stuff to stay sacrosanct when MS and Bungie have done the same thing to her in Halo is hilarious.
I have to say this for me was the only prequal thing from star wars to well actually be good!, I mean episode 1 Horrible, episode 2 Meh, episode 3 Cool action scenes but HORRIBLE!.
So fun to watch that I don't even care how ridiculously over the top it is. Mace Windu is absolutely insanely cool.

I agree about the droids though; even that tidbit in the CIS hanger with R2D2 seemed real awkward and childish. My gripe about the stormtroopers, though, is that the movies never really gave them any personality. Sure, you could assume that they enlisted for their own reasons and what have you, but the movies show nothing more than a bunch of bad guys whose weapons couldn't hit the enemy, no matter the circumstance. [editline]5th February 2011[/editline] I just made a post on an internet subforum at midnight expressing my feelings about Star Wars. Go me.
-snip late-
Absolutely loved this series. Grievous was actually cool in it. Such a disappointment, getting so hyped and then seeing Revenge of the Sith.
The whole fight between Dirge and Obi Wan is absolutely wicked
I never understood what Dirge actually was.
He is part of the worm race from the Halo universe that makes up the hunters and Scarabs. He got lost in a slipspace rupture and popped out into the Star Wars reality. Or this seems more likely Him http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Durge His Race http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gen%27Dai

The excitement in the theater was enough to make me look past any flaws it had for that moment, what with it being the last prequel and all. It was definitely the best of the prequels and the only one that I have no problem with rewatching several times.

He was so bad ass in the series, but was turned into a sickly old man in the movie, who got in one fight and lost. He's supposed to hunt Jedi for fuck's sake. The movie itself wasn't that bad, but they made Anakin even more of a whiny bitch.
Yeah, I can agree on that. The writers pretty much gimped all of the badass characters from the cartoons in the movies. Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Aayala Secura, Grievous, Shaak'ti, and quite a few others whose names I don't quite remember.
