Has it been out at all? I could swear the whole grid was down awhile ago.
It's been on for the whole day
It's been on for the whole day
Crazy that they got it back up already. That was quicker than I was expecting. Wonder if it's going to last.
Massachusetts here, and it's just like a normal day, not preparing or anything.
Massachusetts here, and it's just like a normal day, not preparing or anything.
Depends entirely on where you live in Massachusetts. Last I heard, you're still going to get 40-60mph winds and some good rain.

But I guess we have to wait and see.
Going to use the time during the hurricane to finish the summer reading I was assigned.
9 deaths reported.
The storm has shifted westward enough that Boston won't be impacted as badly as expected.

I'm not preparing at all, because we're only getting rain here in Concord, and that's all that's planned to hit us.
We usually get one of these once a year, florida, there is not really much to prepare, it isn't that bad of a storm compared to Charlie, Francis etc...
Welp, I'm heading to sleep. Good to know that I'll be waking up to strong winds and flying shit
We usually get one of these once a year, florida, there is not really much to prepare, it isn't that bad of a storm compared to Charlie, Francis etc...
Hurricane Charlie was a Category 4 when it hit. I don't see anyone making the comparison here, or even acting like it would be nearly as devastating. That said, I keep encouraging people to remember that Florida and much of the South are ready for storms like this. You guys anticipate it because it's a fact of life down there. Up in the Northeast, we are far more equipped for dealing with blizzards, not hurricanes. Even a Category 1 storm can wreak havoc, especially when the ground is full to bursting with water already.
Goddammit man you're making me even more nervous to be in Connecticut right now.
Hey, I'm in Connecticut too. I'm too nervous to go to sleep, even though chances are good nothing truly bad will happen.
Hey, I'm in Connecticut too. I'm too nervous to go to sleep, even though chances are good nothing truly bad will happen.
Same here with the being to nervous. Do you live inland or along the coast?
Same here with the being to nervous. Do you live inland or along the coast?
Southern New Haven county. I'm about 5 miles from the coastline. Yourself?
We sat in the basement for thirty minutes while I played battleship with my mom, the power never even went out at my house. Although there is going to be serious flooding around my town but it probably wont affect me. (Lives in NJ)
Power's starting to get a bit dodgy now. Live in Eastern New Haven County, for those wondering.
Southern New Haven county. I'm about 5 miles from the coastline. Yourself?
Manchester, much further north, so I'm assuming it won't be as bad here. Biggest concern right now is the fact that our house is surrounded by trees. Hope everything goes alright for you, man.
Basements flood. Not really the best place to be in a hurricane.
We where more concerned about the tornado warning, it was suppose to pass right over us, Never happened.

P
Howard county, MD. Anybody near?
St Mary's county md.
fuck fuck fuck power is out
Connecticut here, not a whole lot going on. Some strong rain every now and then, but the rest of the time is light rain and wind. :v:
fuck fuck fuck power is out
Power hasn't so much as flickered here. Guess I'm lucky.

Even a Category 1 storm can wreak havoc, especially when the ground is full to bursting with water already.
If this hurricane hit Florida it would have hit as a category 3. You can't compare storms because every storm is different. The damage it can do is not dependent on a Saffir-Simpson number because a storm winding down from a category 3 to a 2 is only one mile per hour slower in wind speed. People will see that and say "oh it's just a category 2" when in reality it's just as strong as a category 3. Especially in storms like this that were at one point a large Category 4, they still got that large size and pressure, it's just that the wind speeds have gone down. I said before that hurricane Ike was a category 2 when it made land fall and it destroyed most of Houston's power grid, and 112 people died and 34 people are still missing. It was so powerful because it was just a category 4 just a few days earlier, and therefore was still very large and had a powerful storm surge. TL;DR once a storm maxes out the number looses reliability on how damaging the storm really is.
My basement is filling up and water has just reached the back of the house. Fuck.
Bought a loaf of bread, a bag of ham, and a pack of mountain dew.
