Earthquakes aren't a big problem, people often say "good thing i don't get earthquakes" or talk like people who move to the west are stupid because of the EQ's, they're simply not a problem, I mean yeah they happen and sometimes you can feel them but there hasn't been a fatal one in California (unless I missed something) in years.
You do realize we are 100 years overdue for the Juan De Fuca plate to slip off the North American Continental plate, which would cause one of the biggest earthquakes recorded in US history and sending Tsunamis at the US West Coast and to Japan (shocker), right? Im not talking about the petty earthquakes (although that is a part of another huge problem, the San Andreas fault). I've even heard some speculation that one has the potential to trigger the other, although Im not sure how true that is. I don't care if you think earthquakes are not a problem, but that will definitely rough.
I haven't really kept up with the lastest news on Hurricane Irene. However, I hope that you guys are all safe and well.
I SURVIVED THE NIGHT [editline]28th August 2011[/editline] Yards fucked though, branches, leaves, I think there's a dead squirrel on the ground too.
Spoke too soon, power just went out. Hah. Also, greatest picture so far from the Hurricane, comes from Puerto Rico: Yes, it is exactly what you think it is
Great whites don't show up in Puerto Rico. If that was going to happen it would probably be a bull shark because of their ability to swim through fresh water. I think I remember when Australia got hit by that cyclone there were reports of Bull Sharks swimming down the streets but I'm not sure if any were confirmed. Still a good shop. Gonna fool a lot of people. Also: Meanwhile, in Puerto Rico... [editline]28th August 2011[/editline]
Except you have no idea what I'm saying. We were told to expect some horrible, apocalyptic nightmare when in reality, all we got was a standard rainstorm with a little bad wind. Hence, anti-climax. Get over yourself.
Welcome to hurricane hype. It's not really a bad thing considering when people are not scared of them a lot more people die.
Welcome to hurricane hype. It's not really a bad thing considering when people are not scared of them a lot more people die.
Indeed. I'd rather have people expect disaster and them be safe than to expect a storm and wind up drowning. Still, my first Hurricane was an anticlimax. Not saying that's a bad thing, just that it's...an anticlimax.
Well, I've had no power since 5am. But I have a plan for today. Im going to drive around town with my dad and take pictures of flooded roads. My whole town is. Flooded except for me since I live on a mountain. V:v:V
Taking the drive after Ike was kinda surreal. This marina that's by my house was literally peeled back over itself. Idiots didn't think they needed to take their boats out of the water being 100 miles from the coast but now lake Conroe has a few dozen more boats to add it's collection of things sitting on the bottom.

Apparently 3 people have died in my state (PA) so far from the Hurricane. That's 3 more than I expected, I'll say that much.
Well I'm in my first week of college in NYC. Had an earthquake and now a hurricane. We all just stocked up on ramen and mac and hid in one dorm and snuggled together it was awesome! :D
I live in Ottawa (Canada) and Irene is just starting to clip us. Not too bad, no rain yet but its pretty damn windy and branches are falling off already. Apparently the winds are supposed to reach 100km and we're supposed to get a lot of rain.

Literally nothing happened over here, expect all the basements got flooded on my block. whoo hurricane irene
National Guard is coming to my town apparently.
In Queens, NY. Wasn't nearly as bad as expected, considering the ordered mandatory evacuations.
Power went out at 10:30 am, just got it back now (7pm) the street flooded under the train bridge and for some reason, the pebble road between the tracks and the stream turned into a river. more pics: I took alot, but these are the 3 best, and i dont feel like sending them all one by one to my email
I actually had a pretty sweet day. I drove through flooded roads with my brother, took pictures of flooded roads/rivers/lakes, and then went to my brother's friends house and played pool.
Here in southeastern Massachusetts, the power went out at 7:30AM for about an hour, then went out again at 1:30PM and just came back on ten minutes ago. That's almost seven hours I just survived with no Internet! :v: We've never had the power go out for longer than four hours, since we live literally five minutes away from the power plant.
We had no power outages, (what sounds like) no flooding, and minimal damage as far as I know.
Are ya all dead?I hope not.
Vermont got hit pretty hard. A lot of our historical covered bridges have been wiped out, and there's a lot of bad flooding. Route 4 going out towards Mendon from Rutland is getting washed away, and a lot of the downtown area in Rutland had to be evacuated due to sudden flooding.
Central Pennsylvania; Our power was somehow knocked out for 12 hours. Only our town and nowhere else was affected. Also the Power Company said it'd be fixed by 12:30pm, then didn't fix it until almost 5. Lying bastards.
my backyard got fucked, there's a stream that runs behind it and my backyard was flooded to hell

My power was out for 12 hours yesterday, and my internet wasn't even up until this morning. There wasn't any huge damage here, just some trees swaying in the wind.
North Carolina here. My power has been out since Sunday 4 AM and still isn't on. Luckily, my dad is borrowing a generator so we can run a few things.
Just got nailed, HARD. I mean, we got fucking RAIN, along with 20 MILE AN HOUR WINDS.
New update. About an hour after I posted this, I lost power for 8 fucking hours. Karma hurricane.
Its been 2 days without power in my part of town in New Jersey. This sucks.
I've been lucky. I didn't lose power and some of my friends won't be getting power back until Wednesday.
I heard earlier that the power company is refusing to come fix the power in some areas because if a tree knocks over a power line, it's not their fault. At least they fixed our power, even if they did take 12 hours.
