East Coast, how are you preparing for the Hurricane?

I'm not preparing because we're not supposed to get anything more than a few inches or rain.
Well, everyone in my northwest NJ town bought everything from the local A&P, and are convinced that they won't be able to leave their houses, but in reality we're only getting shit tons of rain and hardly any wind.
Your power will probably go out but that's about it unless you live on the water. Which in that case flooding would be a concern.

Im going to go outside and do this.
:smug:
I live less than a mile from the beach in Calvert County MD. Thankfully I am up a big ass hill and nestled in a valley right behind it. Flooding won't be an issue here, it's the big ass trees that loom over both sides of our neighborhood that were an issue back with Isabel in '03.
Wow, someone saved some pics from the beach just down the street right after that hurricane. I remember the floating propane tank in front of our old favorite breakfast restaurant. (more pics from Isabel in North Beach MD middle of this thread http://www.city-data.com/forum/self-sufficiency-preparedness/1330208-tales-katrina-4.html)

What is REALLY gonna suck is the loss of power for up to a week like we had with Isabel. That and our generator broke during the winter and the folks never had time to fix it in case something like this decided to mosey up the coast this summer. We plan to batten down the hatches and sit this one out, as they are only calling for a 1, maybe 2 if we are really unlucky. I will try to take some pictures of the aftermath and share em with you guys after we get power back in a week or so.
Pittsburgh here, I doubt we'll get much.
My brother's in Philly and he's most likely preparing for a hurricane there.
an umbrella
I live in Georgia so I'm not expecting much at all. Maybe a little wind and rain here after the hurricane strikes.
We've stuffed our refrigerator and freezer full of dry ice and we have all the lanterns out and ready for blackouts
I live on Long Island so I don't really know how much we actually need this stuff, can't hurt to be prepared I guess
My House is one block from an area thats going to be prone to flooding.
Hopefully it won't be too bad in Queens.
The hurricane is supposed to go straight over me :saddowns:
I went out to my shed to get out the generator for when my power goes out, and it's gone. Someone stole it, apparently.
I live in Queens, New York, one of the boroughs in NYC. We're supposed to get pummeled by Irene. I've done nothing. Don't really plan to either. I mean, seriously, I'm not gonna evacuate so might as well just ride it out. Should be fun.

Be careful with that stuff. Don't think they can blow up but I'd open the lid for a few seconds every so often just in case. Stock up on regular ice if you can.

I hate thieves. I understand that person was probably low on money and needed a generator, but seriously, whoever did it is a dick.
On Long Island here too. Just got some water and little things ready for a few day power out.
Also the area less then a mile away from me was evacuated, that's a little scary.
Eastern PA. I don't think we're gonna get it too terribly, but because we're literally in the middle of a forest and our house is surrounded by trees, if anyone needs me, I'll be hiding in the basement.

Riding them out can be fun if you're prepared. Your power will probably be out for a few days so It would be smart to at least have ice and bottled water.
I'm in Mass, so we'll get a tropical storm (I believe). Not doing anything.
town right next to me is being evacuated. Im still not scared.
In southeastern Massachusetts, and all I've done so far is made sure my laptop and Touchpad are fully charged so I can watch movies if the power goes out.
Poughkeepsie, New York; no idea.
I've got a lighter for making cooking fires if need be, and enough food to last us for a week. For entertainment - a book, my laptop, and my iPod Touch. I'm pretty much set if we have to evacuate to higher ground considering we live right across from a beach that is undoubtedly going to be flooded.
Massachusetts, North Shore - I know it's overpreparing :v:
I live in ohio and normally we'd be getting rain this weekend, but because of the hurricane its pushed the cold front away from us that was going to give rain and instead it'll be sunshine with clouds all weekend 8)
I didn't think the hurricane would hit maine, why are some people prepairing up there? Was under my impression that hurricanes are only tropical storms, and sometimes they get as high as middle-east coast if they generate enough steam before dieing out.
Richmond, VA here. We are trying to consume the perishables that go really fast in the fridge so they don't go bad when the power goes out. Other than that just bought some water bottles...
Oh hey, I live near there.
Anyway, my family and I have brought out the gargantuan generator my dad bought on a whim a few years ago, it can power the the whole house, save for AC. We stocked up on shit to eat, if anything even happens.
Poughkeepsie, New York; no idea.
Well, good luck man.
Bethlehem; PA. Stocked up on dry goods. We live on a hill so flooding won't be TOO much of a problem. Also removed lawn furniture. I don't think it's going to be as bad as everyone thinks it is.
Florida panhandle, gonna fish through the hurricane. Last time a hurricane went by us, the fishing was great.

That may be, but its never a shitty idea to be cautious.
East Massachusetts here, and it is my understanding we're gonna get hit pretty much head on, though the forcast's apparently constantly changing from hurricane to tropical storm.
That being said, my methods of preparing for Irene are crying, whimpering, and sobbing, as I will be all alone with the rest of my family driving my sister to college.

That's classified. But we're about 45 minutes away. Neat.
