East Coast, how are you preparing for the Hurricane?

I remember trying to sleep through a category 3 hurricane with my mom when i was a child. It was pretty scary hearing the whistling and twirling winds outside, probably because it reminded me of tornadoes which is really what I worry about the most during a hurricane.
Southern Rhode Island Here, most likely going to be directly affected by it.
Well at least we have tons of preserved food, candles and a generator :v:
if the internet doesn't get knocked out, i'll try to keep you guys updated as it happens
Edit: probably going to lose power though, 74MPH winds and all
and the dumbass next door still hasn't taken all the lawn chairs out of his yard.
Chris Christie doesn't take any shit from anybody.

Doing absolutely nothing because it's not going to hit Central Florida (at least not severely).
Suicide.
the fuck.. this is irrelevant but we just had a 4.6 earthquake in cali. Unusual where i live
The fuck? Could aftershocks hit Oregon? Just curious.
I just hope everyone makes it out ok. First that earthquake now Hurricane Irene. Mother nature is in a foul mood it seems.
Gnomeman, I think the world is ending personally. I don't want to die from a aftershock.. I cant prevent the ceiling from falling, but I did move my closet door onto my bed until I'm ready to sleep. Hopefully this isn't my last night alive.. or day tomorrow.
EDIT: Someone thought I was joking. I'm extremly paranoid. My closet door is huge and would crush me if it fell.

well if it falls, you can try to put your hand up and try to block it..
It's not that easy Region.. It's huge. Fuckiiing huge. It's bigger than most humans. Expect people that are five hundred pounds. I would have to block it with all 175 pounds of my fat.

?
HOLY SHIT IT'S COMING.............
imdead
Not doing anything because not much is going to happen here. Isabel barely did anything in '03 to our house and that was much worse than this one. The road I live on has a hill in the middle and the house is on top of it. Houses at the end of the street might get flooded though. Might lose power.
Basically.. Its huge and wooden. When I hit it, it rings the entire house if its touching a wall. I accidently hit the ceiling trying to move it onto my bed.

It broke off. It was orginally on my closet. My closet is ghetto from the 70's. It can fit a lot of shit in there. I made a secondary bed on the floor that I could sleep on when I was eight in there. I might do that again someday. I'm sixteen now though so it's wierd.
I'll try to find a related picture..

They slide in and out. Opening and closing. There were two for whatever reason. My mom uses them to barricade the house sometime.. Crazy shit goes down sometimes.

my grandma has those kinds of closets. They're big but they're light as fuck
Mines heavy. That was just the best reference I could get.

This has now become a thread about closet doors.
oh damn, it's 4:40 am. I guess I'll sleep through this one.
I'm currently in Halifax, and it will be interesting to see how strong Irene is when she lands here. I'm hoping that the power doesn't go out since I had throat surgery this morning so most of my food I have stocked up might melt or go bad. Otherwise, we plan smart here for hurricanes, especially after Juan wrecked the province.
I also leave for Goose Bay, NL in about a week where the storms headed when last I checked, but it's far enough north and inland to be about a non-issue
An earthquake in Cali is never unusual, I don't care where you live but it simply just happens all the time.
And so it begins.
The first raindrops are falling.
Holy hell I think most people overreacted. I'm in NC and it's already down to a category 1...it's weaker than the last thunderstorm we had here.
sitting on the porch with a blunt ready to watch some damn hurricane

The thing is, and I keep saying this, is that the Northeast just does not get storms like this on any consistent basis. The last storm that was even remotely like this one was 20 years ago.
Are we overreacting? It's possible. But we honestly don't know how to react because we don't experience this kind of thing.
