South central Long Island, just put things outside into the garage.
Had no clue FP has so many Long Islanders, we should do a meet-up if the hurricane doesn't kill us all.
Also, road test on Monday. Still going for it.
what time is it gonna hit NY?

Good luck on your road test.

The number of people from Maryland kinda surprised me too. I think there should be some sort of meet-up for Maryland also.

then again, thats kinda spread out a little
Holy shit, I just heard 500k without power in the Carolinas.
I imagine the tristate area will be much worse.
Fuck, Im in philly, Come at me Irene
what time is it gonna hit NY?
Not sure of times yet, but we're expecting late Saturday and most of Sunday. I'm thinking maybe a bit of Monday too, but that would just be very light leftover rain.
It's drizzling right now, cloudy all day.

Same with Lebanon County. I was expecting more.
East coast NC, river flooded so high.
JUST STOP FUCKING RAINING PLEASE!!!
It's been raining non stop for at least 24 hours and this is probably the largest (by size, not wind) and slowest hurricane I've been through.
Alright, got 4 pocket flash lights and a giant one that could light up a whole neighborhood with its brightness. My body is ready.
I live in the area and I've been through worse, the worst that is going to happen is the power might go out (maybe)
Delaware here. Hasn't quite hit us yet, very windy and rainy though.
Laptop charged
Phone charged
Book to read
im good.
You know, I just noticed...
Major riots in a 1st world country, an extremely unexpected earthquake, and a hurricane with an unusual path. What's next, Yellowstone?

No. Hurricanes happen every year. And this path is not unusual by any means.

I hope all you guys in the east coast are alright and I hope the hurricane passes really soon.
Just talked to my mom about this, apparently its going to be worst here then they thought (Albany NY) storm should end like 30 Miles north of me, but apparently it'll still be pretty fucking hectic here, since strongest winds ive EVER seen was gusts of 40.

lol we get worse than that here
Delaware just got tornado warnings.
Long Island is fun to live on with shit like this. Charging up some stuff for the inevitable power outage. Lines at gas stations were ridiculous, however have 3 full gas cans and propane for a propane stove.
Live in Manchester, CT. Not sure what to expect, probably gonna have a power outage, but I'm mostly worried about the trees surrounding our house falling over.
What hurricane.
Nah, I'm just fucking with you.
Currently experiencing heavy rain and some wind in howard county maryland. Just heard its supposed to get worse in a about an hour or at midnight
Where I live might be getting 'bout 60 MPH winds and probably power outages. We have a generator, candles, lights, and everybody is sleeping on the lowest floor of my house the night it is supposed to hit us.
60 mph winds?
You consider that strong?
We in wyoming specificaly casper get 60+ mph winds frequently and honestly it's normal and no one really cares.

NASA is taking pictures of the hurricane with their satellites. This is one that was posted on Twitter.
Reporting back in from southeastern Connecticut here. Work closed down early and we won't be open tomorrow (thank god). Rain has been steady for the past two hours, though there is almost no wind right now. It's hard to believe we're feeling the outermost flanks of the storm...when the worst part is still 400 miles away.
That said, I'm stocked up on non-perishable food, plenty of water, and I'm planning to stay up all night listening to the storm build in intensity while I play Spyro 2 and Deus Ex: HR until the power goes out. It's going to be a fun, if interesting night.
I brought my plastic chair in so it would not blow away.

I hate to say it, but that looks fake. There's bad jagged edges in the image. Unless the picture quality is just that bad.

Never said it was strong, just stated what it would be like, and obviously people care because it's a thread about Hurricane Irene.
welp Hurricane Irene will be passing right by my town
hold me
This thread reminds me of when we had a Hurricane/Cyclone pass through my area in Australia a couple months back. Wherever you are, just make sure you're prepared. There's obviously going to be differences, but we were without power for around 3 days. Make sure you've got a way to cook food, or stock up on non-perishables. Tape up your windows, or board them up to be safe. When all's done, help your neighbours out. After our ordeal was over, our community came close together and we helped each other clean gardens and streets before the government came along. I look back on it with a kind of fondness.
Keep safe, east coast. And don't die.
