Well, that's certainly true.
Don't know what fucking place therianism has in a furry thread, though!
It's like every fandom. You have those people who identify as part of the group and are quiet and not wanting to be in the spotlight like yourself, then the obnoxious fools that do and take every chance to be in it.
Assuming every single person in the fandom does the same as the ones you do admittedly see more is just ridiculous.
A thing that really pisses me off is when they can't take a joke. I make them all the time. It's just my personality, and god damn, the amount of retaliation I get from some of them is way over the top.

you're an idiot.
you're an idiot.
that's quite possibly true
but I don't have a problem with people acting unconventionally when it doesn't have any bearing on me or anybody that I care about so I'm gonna sit on the high road if that's ok
why do the suits always have to have such stupid goofy faces
like these guys are trying to be serious about this shit but they look like they're right out of a kid's cartoon

That's the intended look. There are some people who do really expensive, realistic ones with glass eyes and shit. Can't remember any names though.
If by "cringeworthy" you mean having fun in a manner inconsistent with a certified and regulated form of "fun" the OP requires all humans to abide by, then yes I guess it is "cringeworthy."
It's weird but who here hasn't done something that would be deemed socially unacceptable?
Her problem here isn't necessarily the fursuit, it's who she is as an individual. Google Onyx Forepaw and look for the encyclopedia dramatica page. As a person, she's very delusional.

Also I have a hard time believing that furries who dress up in fursuits are any more mentally ill than cosplayers.
Realistically, the furry fandom has a stigma on the internet. I think it's mostly because some furries take a familiar, childhood concept -anthropomorphic animals - and manipulate these animals into sexual deviancy. That really shouldn't be a problem, until they start making others socially uncomfortable. Like creeping people out by discussing their sexual fetishes, or publicly displaying their fetish artwork.

They want their victims to see their emotions as they slowly drift off to hell.
.....even if it reminds you of the school's football mascot.

but what if she BECOMES the school's football mascot???
loves that she wears massive fake hipster glasses as a part of her outfit.

Thank god I always browse ED incognito. I didn't even mind much until "Bolt 2" and the Brian Griffin pic.

It doesn't help that those are usually the dramatic types, whose vocal idiocy set the image.

I always find it funny that the Internet pretty much forgot all about furries when bronies became the newest Internet fad.
Exactly, I have never met a Furry before that didn't show signs of mental problems. They always point to some "issue" making them "come out of the wardrobe".
hi please dont fucking relate mental issues to wearing fur suits
fur suits are completely unimportant and inconsequential in every way
mental issues are not

True. I mean, from a personal perspective, my issue with furries comes from their serious social ignorance.
On a slightly related note, during my first relationship five years ago, my girlfriend and I got into an argument about furries. I took the anti-furry platform while she defended them. And, while we were arguing, we came across the point how "furry" is often synonymous with sexual artwork. So, in order to prove her point that not all furries were sexual deviants, she referenced a friend of hers who drew knuckles and knuckles OCs but was "not a pervert."
A day later, I came across her deviantART and realized it was full of kunckles expansion porn.

This so much.
It's so funny how bronies and furries are often at odds with each other, too. Some bronies vehemently reject furries, but literally worship MLP.
The world is a scary place. I've never met anyone like this let alone someone who has a weird hobby like being a brony.

Before I learned the horrors behind the mask, I didn't think much of it.
I mean, how can anything disturbing lay behind something that looks so silly?
Also during my read, I finally learned what a GSD is. I am so fucking stupid to not know the initials of the breed of my dog.

What creeps me out more is that most of it involves non-humanoid forms.
She actually considers Bolt to be her boyfriend. She makes sure to shove this obsession in everyone's face, even IRL. Other than Bolt, she think Ron Weasley is her legit boyfriend since she can't get one in real life, and she makes sure everyone knows that too. What's worse is that she turns Ron into a cat so she can fuck him easily with her fursona. You're not allowed to take her Ron or her Bolt! Her fanaticism has gotten to the point where her mother has banned her from purchasing more Bolt merchandise. She also likes to boast about having the most obese OC in the world.
all of my why

holy fuck, I didn't think she was that bad after watching the video but now after reading this I think she really should seek legit psychiatric help. Thinking that a fictional character is your boyfriend definitely isn't normal.

Someone link her to the DeviantArt Appreciation Station now.
not that i'm defending her, it's hilariously cringe-worthy, but at least she's...relatively harmless, right?
i mean if she was like a pedophile or something that would not be good. this way she's only hurting herself and those around her emotionally, but not physically.
avatar fits extremely well
i've never understood it. i mean it's one thing to get boners from anime girls and shit, at least that vaguely replicates the human form. but...well. i mean just look at the OP
This, except I also apply this to the Gigantress/foot fetish.
There's really no point in defending this. Once you go past keeping your fetishes to yourself then you've got something wrong with you.
Not saying unorthodox clothing is a bad thing. I'm saying that a belief in fantasy so strong that you're willing to go public with it is, especially at that age. Otherwise, Chris-Chan would be swimming in pussy.

Y'know, I think his inability to handle basic human interaction is a much bigger reason.
I have a friend that just made one of these. She said she was going to wear it to a future con of some kind. She's a perfectly cool person, and I thought it would be totally cringe worthy, but in the end I saw the costume she made and I was able to draw two points from what I saw.
1) She is a damn good artist to carve and color such detailed features from standard store-bought foam.
2) It's really just another costume at a con event.
IMO, calling someone mental for making these is pretty dumb. However, out in public with no special costume event going on is really strange.

theres no point in attacking it either
the more you do so the more legitimacy you give it

For a con, I could understand. Yeah, dressing up as a Vulcan is still going to get you called a nerd, but nowhere near as much as if you're going out for Starbucks or some shit like that. Context is everything.
